demonseed Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 Hey i have my hyperspin setup pretty much how I would like it (for now ;)) but was looking at running consoles etc so they look authentic. I was wondering if we could start a list with people's filters, cores etc settings to make the games look authentic. I play on a hd tv. This may help many trying to get the authentic feel like the old tub tv days etc. Thanks in advance!
Aorin Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 If you want an authentic look, you can start trying crt shaders, crt geom and others, some keep the 4:3 aspect and fill the rest of the screen with a overlay or a shader that mix an overlay with crt effects. Aorin
demonseed Posted February 1, 2017 Author Posted February 1, 2017 Is there common ones that people prefer?
griffin518 Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 I use CRT geom... looks just about as close as I remember consoles looking on an old tube TV. I let the core choose the dimensions, and have a RL bezel overlay to add some dimension to the screen. demonseed Posted February 2, 2017 Author Posted February 2, 2017 I have used bezels before but is there a bezel or setting to give it the tube look? Not sure what u meant by using a bezel.
Trnzaddict Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 I highly suggest using the Old School Analog shader pack Volume 3 by Solid12345. Specifically the "Boob Tube" preset. If you couple that with john.meritt's JVC TV overlay, Mind Blown I am......Machine

Not sure what u meant by using a bezel. With the correct image, the curved effect will fit without problems, personally I don't use this, but the effect is really nice. Note that not everything is shader+overlay or bezel, some shaders have on it both effect+border altogether, like the Game Boy, it fills the entire 40" screen: Aorin

demonseed Posted February 2, 2017 Author Posted February 2, 2017 Yes thats exactly what I am looking for!! I do not understand how to apply it. Can someone please walk me through it? Is it done through rl? Or emulator? Please post photos or links so newbies like me understand it. The effect looks super cool!

When you load a game using Retroarch, press F1, go to Quick Menu, Shaders, Shaders CG and browse through them, they are sorted in folders. Aorin
demonseed Posted February 2, 2017 Author Posted February 2, 2017 Thanks trying it out. I download the Vol3 set above but I am not seeing Boob Tube? Anyone advise where to get the tv overlay things? how do i run/install them for HS?

demonseed Posted February 2, 2017 Author Posted February 2, 2017 Well this sucks... I downloaded the files... loaded up a Nintendo Famicom rom worked fine.. changed the shadder now I get a white screen? No matter what shader I pick it is a white screen. I tried loading other games and it now crashes every time I can not load any games.. it crashes and says retroarch has stopped working. It crashes when I run retroarch outside of HS or RL, but in RL in runs fine. In RL I tried boob tube and it looks great. Why would my Retroarch not work now outside of HS/RL? Some how is it loading something in compatible? Any ideas? It messed things up. I did delete the retroarch.cfg file and tried again, but it still crashes every game I load?

FYI - they're not included in the shader refresh for some reason. I just downloaded them and am playing around with them to see which one I like. Boob Tube RCA is currently winning. You are probably only loading the shader. After you choose the shader you want, you have to load an overlay or border, you need to go to these options and then choose one of the borders you like: Aorin

Tapatalk を使用して私の A0001 から送信 I'm attaching the overlay for you, I personally only use this overlay for Atari, I never get used to bezels or overlays. You may use this border with a CRT Geom shader or similar. TV Border.zip Aorin
demonseed Posted February 2, 2017 Author Posted February 2, 2017 Well I tried adding border overlay and all crashes still. Is there a way to reset settings this is emulator? Something is crashing it and I can not find out why. I have turned on loggind to debug but do not understand where the file is saved too? anyone help? I hate to have to reinstall

demonseed Posted February 2, 2017 Author Posted February 2, 2017 I tried a new install, applied the shaders and overlay and it works. I guess my other one has become corrupted . Would the old config and settings files be compatible or do I just set it up again.

It depends, if you have remaps, you can use them without problems, same goes for Saves and Save States, you should keep these. Depending on other core configs, what was broken will remain broken, you can backup your current Retroarch folder and start copying some configs and see what works, if you think it worth it. Aorin
demonseed Posted February 2, 2017 Author Posted February 2, 2017 Hey SO I did a complete fresh install it seems to work except issues when I go to retroarch menu.... I posted question for help for that. I did get the cool shaders and overlays working however they do not seem to save for me. I go into RL and have it set to per core, I set the shader etc. but it does not load it automatically. If In retroarch I reapply the shaders it works but exiting and starting again it does not? Here are my settings in RL module.. I double checked my Jaguar settings and shaders is set to true and it has a link to the shader crt-royal. but its not loading. It is like RL loads a default setting.
demonseed Posted February 3, 2017 Author Posted February 3, 2017 Solved!!!! Found this answer at RL site and it worked!! I will post it below for anyone else having a similar issue. I have been going through all kinds of shaders just cant seem to find the right fit. I am trying to find one that curves the screen to look like a crt, Ok i found a solution. You don't have to change any option in RLauncher and you don't have to bother with the VideoShader option. What you need is to save a .cfg for each core you want to use. In RetroArch you need the "configuration per-core" option. This will save a new .cfg every time you save the settings of a core, including your shader options. However, the name of the .cfg will be something like this: "nestopia_libretro.cfg". That's how your cfg file will look if you save one for the NES with nestopia core. In order for RLauncher to see it, you need to rename it to the name you are for NES in RLaucher itself. For instance "Nintendo Entertainment System.cfg" in my case. Once you do this, RLauncher will open the roms using that cfg file instead of the default and it will load the shaders too. But make sure the "video_shader_enable" in the cfg files is "true".
demonseed Posted February 6, 2017 Author Posted February 6, 2017 I put on retroarch 1.4 loaded the CRT-GEOM shader and it looks awsome.. but I noticed mega loss in frame rate? Is this normal? Like systems are almost unplayable? Is there some settings I need to set or change> I tried some other shaders and the emulator runs fine, of course the one shader I really like runs like ass. Is there anything similar to CRT-GEOM? I like the scan lines with the curved edges. I am using a CRT one but it is not curved so when I use a TV board there are black vertical bars inside the tube of the tv..
