jevansoh Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 Hi, I've tried everything I can think of and no tutorial or video has been helpful. I'm setting up the PSX (Playstation 1), or at least trying to, and was originally planning on using RetroArch since it is already installed for other systems, but it crashes every single time it tries to load a .ecm/.cue file so I downloaded epsxe to try it instead. After a few hiccups I was able to get the games to load from within epsxe directly, but when I set it up in RL it acts like it's going to load and there aren't any error messages, but I just get an endless black box centered between my bezels. It will sit there for hours if I let it, so there are no errors. I don't know what to do. Please help me if you can. Thanks, --J
Suhrvivor Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 Compressed files such as ecm are not supported by some emulators, decompress them to bin format first and they should work.
BATTLEDONKEY Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 Im not sure if either ePSXe or RetroArch will play your .ecm files (from my understanding .ecm is just a former of compression and needs to be extracted so you may need to extract the .bin from within the .ecm file. To fix the black screen in ePSXe, open ePSXe go to Options > CPU Overclocking > and click x1
jevansoh Posted February 3, 2017 Author Posted February 3, 2017 Ok, I also downloaded some ISO's thinking the same thing. They play fine in the emulator directly, but none of them match up with anything in the standard xml database file when I do an audit so I can't launch them from RocketLauncher. How can I manually make a game show "green" in the audit so I can launch it? I've looked everywhere for a solution and this one has stumped me, too. I've tried changing the file name to match exactly what is in the xml file but that makes no difference at all. I actually have a few "missing" games (I have them and again the file names match what's in the xml file but they still show up as missing) in other systems as well. jevansoh Posted February 3, 2017 Author Posted February 3, 2017 UPDATE: Ok, so an ISO file works with RocketLauncher and epsxe but I have to figure out how to scale the video because although it's right top to bottom, the left to right is off the screen and into the bezels. Any suggestions? More importantly for now, I've made sure my rom extensions are set up properly and are all there in my N64 config which is where I'm having the trouble and I copied the name of the game directly from the database xml file and renamed my games to those exact names, but they are still red. One of the games is Midway's Classic Hits or something like that. I tried shortening it in the XML file to just Midway and named the rom Midway and that doesn't work either!! However, I did the EXACT same thing for my Playstation ISO's and by matching the name in the database xml file and the name of the file itself, it audited/found them just fine. That would lead me to believe maybe the rom extensions weren't set up correctly, but I looked and they most definitely are and I have several other titles working (N64) with the same .z64 extension, so that isn't the problem. I'm really stumped. There are a few games on each system that just don't want to be found and sync up and I simply cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong. The name in the XML file matches the file name perfectly yet it doesn't seem to matter on some games. On others, matching them up fixes the problem just fine, such as the PSX ISO's. Help........ As for the Playstation roms, same deal, files in .zip have to match the xml and also open up the .cue file with notepad and make sure it's pointing to the correctly named .bin/.iso. Technically, the .bin/.iso doesn't need to be renamed as long as the .cue is renamed and is pointing to the correct file, but it makes it neater and saves u headaches in the long run

The only torrent I could find with a backup of all my games (455TB - 1500+ Games) is bin/cue and will take me 2+ weeks to download on my slow DSL connection. Any ideas where I could start looking to figure it out? I tried RetroArch and it kept crashing, I tried Xebra and couldn't get it to work, and the 3rd time was the charm with epsxe but only with ISO's. If I could figure this out, with your help, I would have a very nice PSX system. Thanks again everybody, --J
jevansoh Posted February 3, 2017 Author Posted February 3, 2017 I have only downloaded a few PSX files, so I haven't checked the naming, but yes, they are zipped. The problem files are N64 files and they are NOT zipped/compressed in any way. They are .n64, .v64, etc files. The file names match the xml file exactly and still aren't being picked up. It's not all of them. There are 303 total games and 281 of them work, but there are, of course with my luck, a few titles that aren't working that I really want to fix such as the Midway Classics one mentioned above. For N64, if you are certain all the rom extensions are listed in rocketlauncher, try copy/paste the name directly from the xml, I'm not sure why they wouldn't be showing up if it's named correctly and the extensions are listed in rocketlauncher

The other problem besides the n64 roms not showing up and being successfully audited no matter what I do is more dire and that is that epsxe WILL play bin files if I manually go into the emulator and run them, but I can't get them to run through RocketLauncher. Any suggestions? I would hate for a 455gb torrent to go to waste after waiting 2 weeks on it to complete! Thanks so much, --J

It's just when I try to launch them through rocketlauncher I just get a black screen and nothing ever happens with bin/cue files. ISO files work fine, but I don't have many of those. I do need to adjust the video because the wrong size plays when using ISO files and the left/right is off the screen. In retroarch you just press F1 and there is an easy to use menu to adjust, but I am not finding anything like that with epsxe. Thanks, --J
jevansoh Posted February 3, 2017 Author Posted February 3, 2017 I've gotten Xebra to work with ISO files in RL, too. If I manually open Xebra and launch a bin file, it plays fine. But when I try to launch a bin file through RL it brings up a screen that says, "Please Set CD-ROM" on a white background. I don't care which emulator I use (originally tried RetroArch but it crashes every time I try to load something) but I need to be able to play BIN files through RL, not just directly. It seemed to load with no errors but instead of bringing up the game it just brought up a white screen that says, "Please Set CD-ROM" at the bottom. I'm using Xebra for this test. If I go to Xebra directly, outside of RL, and click, "Load ISO" then select the bin, it loads the game properly. Let me know if you need additional info. Suhrvivor Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 You need to enable 7z, that's why your games won't boot through Rocketlauncher. EDIT: Also, you might want to modify rom extensions and move cue before bin just in case.
jevansoh Posted February 3, 2017 Author Posted February 3, 2017 What do you mean "enable 7z" ? It is part of the many parameters including zip, rar, etc. Am I missing it somewhere? Iso's load but Bin's just take me to the "Set CD-ROM" screen. I've also tried decompressing the 7z files and putting the bin/cue in the base rom directory and that gives the same results. Again, they load fine from Xebra. Thanks, --J
Suhrvivor Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 You need to enable 7z so Rocketlauncher will extract the cue/bin/iso before sending it to the emulator, this will avoid problems with emulators that don't support 7z (most of them). Open RocketlauncherUI, select Sony Playstation, in settings, select the Main settings tab, set 7z enabled to true, and Match extensions to true to avoid problems with names inside archives. Picture:
jevansoh Posted February 4, 2017 Author Posted February 4, 2017 Thank you SO MUCH for taking the time out of your day to help me and to make that picture! Now I finally have AUDIO and the game loads, but instead of video, I just get a white window that takes up part of the screen and is blank other than at the top it says file, menu, help, etc, but nothing is clickable. I hear the game running in the background, though, so we have some success!!!! Any suggestions? Thanks again! You've made my day already and it isn't even working fully yet lol. --J
jevansoh Posted February 4, 2017 Author Posted February 4, 2017 UPDATE: About 40% of the time, it is actually working now! I haven't made any further changes, it just happened to not work (gave the white screen mentioned above with audio playing in the background from the game) the first time. I tried it a few more times, then several more times, and again, about 40% of the time it works. I need it to work 100% of the time, of course, though. Any suggestions? Also, I've tried everything I can think of but the controller (xbox style usb controller) simply isn't working. I've configured it several times and the buttons respond during configuration and the multi-way pad that sticks up works (don't know the name of that joystick like pad) but the up/down/left/right and buttons don't work. badboo Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Hey jevansoh, I have been in the same boat as you. I have had the playstation 1 system configured on RL with epsxe. Never had done properly. Like you said, outside of RL, it runs well but inside of RL it is annoying and always had some issues. Specially if you are using bezels. Well, I just configured this with Retroarch and it has been awesome, I really love it. But I needed to have the roms with .cue files for retroarch to run them properly. If I am not wrong, if you are using 7z, then I gues you will have to have the files .cue/.bin or whatever, inside of the 7z or rar file. The cool thing is RA have some cool shaders.
