Great work as usual buddy!! Dumb question but with homebrews included in official databases will this make the hacked games

wheel project obsolete? And if not what qualifies a homebrew to be included in an official database over the hacked games database?

Posted

I have no idea why some homebrews were removed from system sets but imo they never shoulda been. This set, for example, had some homebrews on it while others weren't. On inspection, it seemed totally arbitrary.

Moving forward there's a clear distinction between what constitutes a system and what constitutes a collection. A "system" is a set of games for a very specific hardware, eg. a specific console, computer build, or arcade board. Collections are logical groupings or fan-lists. For example, MAME is a Collection that is a superset of all arcade architecture ever made. Super Nintendo Entertainment System is a Console System. Atari 8-Bit is a Computer Collection that's a superset of all the various computers in the 8-Bit line (eg. 400, 800, XEGS, etc.) and Capcom Classics is a Collection that's both a subset of the MAME collection and a superset of various Arcade Systems. Sega Triforce, Sega Naomi, Sega ST-V would be examples of Arcade Systems.

So to answer your question, homebrews should remain part of their associated system set, but can also be part of a fan-made hack collection.

If you like being pedantic, are hella OCD, and enjoy digging, learning, researching, and hella keyboard jockeying you're welcome to join the database team.

I will keep that in mind thanks Avar. I am auditing these new DBs against my old complete art sets at the moment, are the results any use for

comparing the old hyperlist to these updated ones?

Depends what you're looking for I guess. The new ones seem a helluva lot more complete but we're still working on em.

With my audit I've done / am doing just that, and it'll all be accessible in the not-to-distant future so up to you if you feel it's worth doing manually. This is honestly prolly a rly good time for ppl to kick back and enjoy games or go nuts on art/database development.

Avar, for the new HS version, will the XML files remain the same? Or will they have extra fields in them like game description or number of players, etc.?

Correct the new databases will display a lot of extra fields. Not sure what I can say but they will be interesting once complete :)

I knew after doing Atari 5200 there would be similar issues with other Atari systems so I spent the day working on Atari 2600. Results here:

Note: These don't contain hacks at this time. Something the team and I'll have to discuss.

Having issues opening KlopjerO ScummVM database. Not sure if this is the problem but Hyperspin Rom Manager is complaining bout the & and &amp

Posted

The description end tag on line 2130 was missing a forward slash. Rom Manager and Dons tools were both having the issue and adding in the slash fixed the issue for me.
