Noob Question - Updates

Hi all, bit of a noob question regarding system and software updates.

Had an arcade cabinet built that's running Hyperspin on a Windows 10 (64 bit) PC. When I got it the guys said not to update windows etc as it could mess up the system. Cabinet is great and running well, just like things up to date. It's running on an unactivated version of Windows and I know there are updates available for that as well as the GPU (GeForce GT 1030).

Looks like Iam running the latest versions of Hyperspin (1.5.1.0), Rocket Launcher (1.2.0.1) and Rocket Launcher UI (1.0.1.10).

Other then the windows not being activated (which I am happy to do) is there actually any issue with connecting the system and running updates? Will doing this cause any issues with running and playing games?

System Specs are attached. Any assistance would be great.

Funnily enough the latest version of Hyperspin was released to fix an issue caused because of a Windows 10 update. Yes some emulators can have issues because of these windows updates too. Gameloader RH for doing Arcade rips springs to mind. Although these emulators/loaders should also get updates to fix any issues.

Personally I wouldn't activate Windows to that hardware. AMD CPUs and GPUs are NOT recommended for emulation! You might think it runs great but we have no idea what systems/games you are emulating.

You're going to start seeing a lot of intel i5 2500K and i7 2600K motherboard bundles starting to come up for sale 2nd hand. They are just starting to show their age for modern PC games BUT for emulating demanding systems they are ideal.

Cheers Honosuseri, only emulating first gen consoles, ps1, n64, dreamcast and below as well as MAME and other old arcade games. Nothing that should be terribly taxing such as the PS2 or anything, might leave that for a later project, whilst I know my way around PC's emulation is new to me so thanks for the advice.

So I should be fine to run updates on the PC??

Thanks again ??

You can update without issue, just keep in mind to disable any anti virus, firewall etc you have after it has updated as these will casue issues with Hyperspin

If the person who set up your system probably disabled anti virus etc  in the background, so this may affect your setup if the windows updates override anything he has manually done.

If you know this is not an issue then should be good to go.

No worries. Yes you can update as Cataclysm has said. He's also very experienced with Hyperspin on both Windows and Android.

I seriously doubt they installed any antivirus software to the system. Windows Defender built into Windows 10, no longer sees Hyperspin as a threat. A forum member sorted that recently.

Everything you've listed, I can do quite happily on my Shield TV with Hyperspin. Which cost me £150, plus the cost of a hard drive. It sucks less juice from the wall, my PC setup is for the more demanding stuff and the bonus features Rocket Launcher gives us.

Welcome to the forum. I'm not picking your purchase to pieces, just educating you. So when you do try to emulate more systems, you're aware of your limitations.

Hey @cataclysm67 @Honosuseri quick question as I've hit a bit of a snag. Have run the windows updates and hyperspin and rocket launcher run fine but hyperhq wont load. It pops up in the task manager then disappears, thinking this may be a windows defender issue by a few posts on Google but seems I don't have the access to windows defender, looks like there is an "IT admin restriction" on the module used to add exceptions.

Is there anyway to fix it? Would reverting to the previous build work you reckon?

Thanks again

If you cant access HyperHQ this is your PC blocking it as you say.

If using Windows 10 you need the latest HyperHQ as previous version not working.

Try setting HyperHQ to run with admin rights to see if it unblocks it, but you really need to disable Windows Defender ideally.

Cheers @cataclysm67 managedmanaget windows defender working and had a look and nothing there was quarantined or anything, added an exemption for hyperhq but still wont load after a restart. The version I have is 1.3 not sure if thats the latest. Cant think of anything else that would be blocking it.

Is it possible to download just hyperhq? Not sure what other files are attached to that program.

Cheers

No you need HyperHQ 1.5.1

Get them from here and just overwrite your files:
