PlayStation PBP files

Has anyone converted the PS1 files to PBP? Someone on here mentioned it to me and said it save room but more importantly gets rid of the long load times. I’ve tried it and it really does cut out the load time. Just wondering how you swap discs using retroarch? I read you can put all the discs in one eboot file and did that. Just need to know how to exactly switch between them?

Just make sure you name roms correctly for disc swapping , e.g.

Arc the Lad Collection - Arc the Lad III (USA) (Disc 2).PBP
Arc the Lad Collection - Arc the Lad III (USA) (Disc 1).PBP

Work fine in RA 1.8.4

I would second what @dougan78  said, CHD is the way forward, they are also reversable should you need to.

CHD for PS1, Sega CD, PCE-CD, Sega Saturn, Dreamcast, Neo-Geo CD and Philips CD-i

CSO for PS2 and PSP,  WUX for Wii-U, Ciso for Wii

see the thread below, the opening post is outdated but info all through the post

So from what that post says PBP is good for PS1. I’m spending a TON of time converting my bin files to 1 file then converting that to a PBP file. I like the fact all discs can be combined into one file. I see in the retroarch menu it shows 2 discs for like resident evil 2 I just haven’t been able to test swapping them out probably because I haven’t gotten to the end of the game to save it. It will be great if this works though and then somehow get rocket launcher to switch the discs even though they are all in one file. Not sure if this will be possible or I’ll have to make a m3u file yet.

No, read further on,  at least the second half of it. CHD is the way to go, I'm sure there were some on that thread who had all PBP and converted to CHD's, the compression is better!

it will also work on multiple bins, no need to convert to one bin, you just need to make sure the .cue files are correct.

As for multi disc, the link dougan posted explains m3u lists, you will see from the images on that post @Aorin  has a CHD set, he also put the majority of info on the link I posted.

there are also CHD sets available these days.

Lupus Rename was also a good tool for renaming multilple files

Let me know if ou need help with CHDs and a batch file

@hErTz So I was reading about Chdman to do this. Is this what you’re referring too? It said just put it in my PlayStation folder and run it from command line? I’m assuming I would have to unzip my rims first? Then not sure. I can open command prompt but don’t know much after that. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

OK, so you will need to unzip all the files into the same folder, add chdman and the following attached batch file to that same folder, double click the batch file and it will run through all the files.

CUEtoCHD.bat

If it skips any, then the cue file needs edited, the track names in the cue must match the files exactly, or it will skip. The Cue's of the multi bins you converted to One will need edited for sure.

you may run into problems with some of the PAL titles, if I remember some of these had zipped audio tracks, .ecm and .ape, those need converted to bins first.

Let me know how you get on

Should have said, I kept my cue files, just incase they were needed again later. I am not sure if they are saved in the CHD, i have not needed to decompress any yet.

Found it online! Seems to work great after testing. Just one question, after it creates the CHD there’s still the folder left with the bin and cues. Did you manually delete the folders except you cues? I’ll have the zip, folders, and chds?

Posted

yea, you need to manually delete the bins and save the cues

put them all in the same folder and leave it overnight to convert, it won't go through subfolders though.

Please send me the CUEtoCHD.bat please thanks..

No Problem - PM'd

Anyone else needs it.....

open a new notepad file and paste the following and save

for /r %%i in (*.cue) do chdman createcd -i "%%i" -o "%%~ni.chd

rename to CUEtoCHD.bat

(*.cue) can be changed to .gdi for dreamcast and .ccd will also work

I’m in the process of doing this and it’s awesome!! I noticed all my ROMs that are (Europe) are in a subfolder and also not named properly. The cue call for track one but the bins skip track 1. I’ll just need to rename the bin that has no track listed to bin 1. Thanks again for this! Will save a lot of work!!

@hErTz I was reading in the link above you posted and it said Sega Dreamcasts best file format is chd. Can I run chdman for that and also I need to do something with GameCube, takes to long to unzip.

if your DC roms are bin + cue you can use that batch, if they are gdi's, you can edit the the batch file with notepad++ and change (*.cue) to (*.gdi)

My Gamecube roms are in .gcz which is done in Dolphin

The rest of the CD based systems can be converted to CHD tho.

One more question, for GameCube my set is iso, I read you can convert them in dolphin but is there a batch file or a way to do this to all games and not just one at a time? Also my Dreamcast have gdi, bin, and raw? Is this still ok having raw?

Posted

no problem,

Point Dolphin to your folder of iso's - Options - Configure - Paths

highlight them all, right click and compress selected iso's.

Your gdi's sound fine, edit as in the post above above you should be good to go, you might not get them all in the same folder, I'm sure some had the same track names
