floatingyeti Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 This is my best attempt to gather all my full system uploads and instructional posts into one thread. There have been several discussions within upload posts, but this thread might be a better (more visible) way to discuss or ask questions about this project. I have also included other related member uploads. Thank you for all the support, assistance, and contributions! I will be testing every update to MAME core and listing compatibility the best I can. brudibru Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 Great idea and so much work behind all those systems ! I have uploaded only one system so far with a handful of games and I know how much time it took me. That list is a useful tool because when you succeed to install one system, you can install all of them. The unified process is brilliant. A big thank you to you and the other creators cited here.
floatingyeti Posted October 1, 2022 Author Posted October 1, 2022 If anyone has any questions please feel free to ask. I'm still learning new things about RetroArch and MAME all the time. I do not consider myself an expert. I welcome and appreciate any knowledge shared here.
floatingyeti Posted October 2, 2022 Author Posted October 2, 2022 This might be confusing, but I gathered all my save states if anyone needs them. If they don't work for you, I have left instructions on each upload to create them on your own. save states.zip: save state that work on current and past MAME cores 0.244 states.zip: save states that can only work on 0.244 MAME Core autosave states.zip: autosave ini file method saves
brudibru Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 Floating Could you please tell me the difference between the "normal savestates" and the autosave ones ?
floatingyeti Posted October 2, 2022 Author Posted October 2, 2022 Autosave states are created on exiting the game. I create an ini file for the system and enable it from there (you don't want it for all systems) That way the game will auto resume when launched. The save state file can be changed to read-only in properties, making it only resume from the same point every time. This method is useful for some systems that load a BASIC cart first and then a cassette. The save state can be up to 10mb in size and capture multiple roms if the game has a cart/cassette working together. It's not the intended use but one of my accidental discoveries. Reference: Nintendo Family BASIC or Tesla Ondra upload pages for instructions.
Dunkler2Engel Posted October 5, 2022 Posted October 5, 2022 Hi, i tried to use your configs with retroarch, and not work for me. I do something wrong but no know what. This are a log from Retroarch, for if you can help me with this. https://pastebin.com/7S0UxSGQ The system is Sega SC-3000, but i was try with a few system and none works well. Sorry for my english ^^ Edit: This is the log of Rlauncher... RL - Pastebin.com
floatingyeti Posted October 5, 2022 Author Posted October 5, 2022 I'm sure I could troubleshoot it but I'm not great reading Rocketlauncher logs. We aren't on RL forums so you can just describe what's happening or send a screenshot of an error message. I'm more concerned with troubleshooting RetroArch first Can you launch games directly from RetroArch (not Rocketlauncher)? What are your settings in RetroArch MAME options? What version of MAME core are you using? What happens when you try to launch a game? Is there an error message? Do you have MAME core set to 720p because 1080p has caused many of the mame software systems to crash after 0.246 A Pastebin link with the text from your retroarch-core-options.cfg would help. my mame settings in retroarch-core-options.cfg: mame_altres = "1280x720" mame_auto_save = "disabled" mame_boot_from_cli = "enabled" mame_boot_to_bios = "disabled" mame_boot_to_osd = "disabled" mame_buttons_profiles = "enabled" mame_cheats_enable = "enabled" mame_cpu_overclock = "default"
QAZ Posted October 6, 2022 Posted October 6, 2022 G:\Hyperspin\Emulators\Retroarch\system\mame ????????
floatingyeti Posted October 6, 2022 Author Posted October 6, 2022 Ok, I read the log and I think I found the issue It looks like you configured Rocketlauncher and the module correctly. The problem is your rom path: H:\Roms\Sega - SC-3000\Sega_SC-3000\sc3000\1986.zip That won't work because there are spaces in the folder named "Sega - SC-3000" that would prevent RetroArch or Rocketlauncher from loading the game. Mame needs a rom path with no spaces. Thats why I prepared the folder as Sega_SC-3000\sc3000 I had to use "_" to eliminate spaces. try: H:\Roms\Sega_SC-3000\sc3000\1986.zip

floatingyeti Posted October 6, 2022 Author Posted October 6, 2022 Can I see your retroarch-core-options.cfg? it's in the main directory of your retroarch folder. Just upload the file here.
Dunkler2Engel Posted October 6, 2022 Posted October 6, 2022 I'm sorry for being so heavy, but it bothers me that I can't use so many packs correctly, the retroarch with mame drives me crazy. Would it be possible to send me a copy of your retroarch privately, to try that one? I would have no problem sharing mine but of course it would be more insecure for you and I don't want that. I don't have that file, the most similar is this one. floatingyeti Posted October 6, 2022 Author Posted October 6, 2022 Ok, I think I understand the issue. You don't have a retroarch-core-options.cfg which means you have default settings for mame core. You must open retroarch open the core or load content and change settings before it can be run in Rocketlauncher. I can upload a picture guide here maybe later today.
Dunkler2Engel Posted October 6, 2022 Posted October 6, 2022 Thanks, it would be perfect if you could explain it with 1 pack of a system in a clean installation of Retroarch+MAME, in case someone else has the same problem.
floatingyeti Posted October 6, 2022 Author Posted October 6, 2022 Well, if you have a clean install of RetroArch I can attempt to share my cfg files. I do not advise anyone try these before backing up your RetroArch folder or creating a separate RetroArch test folder. I am using: RetroArch version 1.10.3 but it might not matter if you have the current version RA Main Settings: RA Main Menu->Settings->Drivers Input: sdl2 Controller: xinput Video: d3d12 (most compatible for me) Audio: xaudio Exit and Restart RetroArch before continuing Here is my RetroArch\retroarch.cfg for reference retroarch.cfg It uses relative paths so you might be able to overwrite your existing file Download A Core: Now you have the MAME Core Load Content: You need to load content before you can access core options Let's start with something guaranteed compatible. I will download RetroArch Arcade/MAME content Now you have a game you can easily load: RetroArch\downloads\alienar.zip Let's go back to the main menu (Backspace) and Load Content Must Load Archive The game should load RetroArch Core Options: Finally, we can press F1 to view Quick Menu and access options Here is the full options menu with working settings: Settings List: Read Configuration: On (can access mame per-system ini files) Write Configurate: Off (Turn on temporarily when you need to create an ini) Save State Naming: Game (all states in retroarch\states) System (sorts states in folders with system name) Auto save/load states: Off (Only enable in ini file if needed) Enable in-game mouse: On Lightgun settings: none/free (I never needed these for MAME SL systems so I left default) Profile Buttons according to game: On Enable throttle: Off (Haven't needed it yet) **Save Content Directory Options before using Enable Cheats: On (I don't follow rules!) Main CPU Overclock: default **Save Content Directory Options before using Alternate render method: On (Must) Enable Softlist: On (Must Use Hash Files) Software automatic media type: On (Hash file determines Media Type) Media type: cart (not in use when software automatic media type: On) Boot to Bios: Off Boot to OSD: Off Boot from CLI: On (Must) Resolution: 1280x720 (1920x1080 causes crashes after 0.246) lower resolution can speed up some systems **Save Content Directory Options before using MAME INI Paths: Off MAME Joystick 4-Way simulation: Off (Might help some systems, I never tried) **Save Content Directory Options before using my RetroArch\retroarch-core-options.cfg retroarch-core-options.cfg Save Individual Core Configuring: Do this! Having one single retroarch.cfg can be a disaster. You can make individual core configs to change various RA main menu setting without affecting other core's settings. Now MAME core will use mame_libretro.cfg My RetroArch\config\mame_libretro.cfg mame_libretro.cfg I really hope this guide helps!
Dunkler2Engel Posted October 7, 2022 Posted October 7, 2022 Thanks for that tutorial, but I definitely HATE RetroArch+MAME, I've tried like 3 or 4 systems and some work and others don't and when I touch something it fails everything ^ ^. For my RetroArch+MAME is a bit poorly implemented. Another topic is Rlauncher, which the module for me that I have outdated or something because some systems works like "Casio PV" and others not like AmberPegasus, and the command line seems identical. H:\Emuladores\RetroArchMAME\retroarch.exe "pegasus -rompath \"H:\Roms\AamberPegasus\pegasus\" -cart \"H:\Roms\AamberPegasus\pegasus\gwarhang.zip\"" -c "H:\Emuladores\RetroArchMAME\config\mame_libretro.cfg" -L "H:\Emuladores\RetroArchMAME\cores\mame_libretro.dll H:\Emuladores\RetroArchMAME\retroarch.exe "pv1000 -rompath \"H:\Roms\Casio_PV-1000\pv1000\" -cart \"H:\Roms\Casio_PV-1000\pv1000\amidar.zip\"" -c "H:\Emuladores\RetroArchMAME\config\mame_libretro.cfg" -L "H:\Emuladores\RetroArchMAME\cores\mame_libretro.dll The packs should go alone starting them from RetroArch, right? Without having to launch them from Rlauncher. In any case i think i go to stop the implementation of RA+MAME, and continue using only Mame who no make me go Crazy. At least until I have vacations and more time to invest in learning how to use them together.
floatingyeti Posted October 7, 2022 Author Posted October 7, 2022 I'm glad you have some systems working. I looked at your module and the Aamber Pegasus has a small error. current: Aamber Pegasus|mame_libretro|mame_libretro|pegasus fix: Aamber Pegasus|mame_libretro|pegasus Yes, there is a lot of learning involved with RetroArch + MAME but it is very rewarding once you figure everything out. I am still available if you need help. The pastebin links and logs were useful and I was able to troubleshoot using them. If there is ever an error message on screen, uploading a screenshot would also be appreciated.
Dunkler2Engel Posted October 8, 2022 Posted October 8, 2022 I have tried what you told me by modifying RetroArch.AHK but mine is not the same, mine has 4 variants: ; Here we define all supported systems for this module. This object controls how the module reacts to different systems. RetroArch can play a lot of systems, but needs to know what system you want to run, so this module has to adapt. ; 1 - Official System Name in RocketLauncher ; 2 - Short name used only for easy referencing within module ; 3 - Default core ; 4 - The system ID MAME core recognizes RLLog.Debug("Module - Started building the " . MEmu . " object") mTypeVar:=" ( LTrim Aamber Pegasus|mame_libretro|pegasus Acorn BBC Micro|LibRetro_BBCB|mame_libretro|bbcb If I only put 3 it gives an error when starting because it takes the third "pegasus" as the core In case you want to take a look at it, although it has nothing to do with this, this is my module, although as I said it seems outdated in the version it puts MEmu := "RetroArch" MEmuV := "v1.3.6" RetroArch.rar
floatingyeti Posted October 8, 2022 Author Posted October 8, 2022 The Module is ok, I'm using v1.36 as well. We can add all MAME Software List systems we need. You need to tell RetroArch to use mame_libretro.dll by selecting it in Aamber Pegasus - Global Module Settings Thats a step I mentioned here: How to add Systems for RetroArch(MAME) But let's go into greater detail. 1. Select Aamber Pegasus in Rocket Launcher UI and go to Emulators->Edit Global Module Settings 2. Select Aamber Pegusus tab and click on LibRetro_Core 3. Navigate to your RetroArch\cores folder and select mame_libretro.dll That should fix the problem This process should be done for every system using RetroArch! I have stopped using the |LibRetro_System| module instruction for MAME SL Systems. It prevents the system from launching in most cases.
Dunkler2Engel Posted October 8, 2022 Posted October 8, 2022 Wow, you're incredible, with that tip "Aamber Pegasus" already works and maybe many others that gave me similar problems too. I'm going to check them. It is what you say there are many things to touch but when it works the satisfaction is worth it
floatingyeti Posted October 8, 2022 Author Posted October 8, 2022 That's great! I will continue to use screenshots with any instructional/troubleshooting post on this thread. Hopefully it will help everyone.
pesedo77 Posted March 9, 2023 Posted March 9, 2023 Well, after some education, since this is the very first time I use GitHub, I made my first Pull Request (#9075) to add 5 Titles to PC98.XML I hope it proceeds, the only question I have now relates to the ROMs related to those new entries. I am not sure if that can be discussed here, I don't want to break any rules. momix indigocard.xyz
