After wondering why Hyperspin wouldnt launch at all after installing this update - I tried various things to fix it.  Only after un-installing this update did Hyperspin start working again.  So I then re-installed the update - Hyperspin broke again.  Un-installed once more - back working.  Confirmed this windows update has a problem.

How did you uninstall the update?

I didn’t have an option to restore after the 24h2 update, so had to recover to windows 10 because Windows 11 shuts off the system recovery.  Make sure to backup your information on another drive.

Microsoft has lost their mind... locking down everything.

They really need to fix this.... Anybody messaged the origianl developer? Im sure he has a vested interest in keeping his site alive.

I can confirm that by uninstalling the KB5046740 update from Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyperspin does seem to work again.

The screenshot below shows my system is up to date, but KB5046740 is ready for download again after I had uninstalled it.

Uninstall updates from Windows 11:  Update > Update History > Uninstall Updates (I was able to uninstall KB5046740 using this method)

Hi guys. It seems that the new update KB5048667 on Windows 11 Pro Version 24H2 is causing Hyperspin not to work again.

Is this another manual install or does it install automatically ?

Its an automatic download, and doesn't seem to be optional.

It can, but then gets reinstalled.

Yes, but you could just uninstall it then turn off Windows updates completely until a fix is found.

Thnx Creezz67, but I'm loath to uninstall an update that addresses security issues, just to have Hyperspin work properly. I'll wait for the fix.

Is this website dead... I guess the author doesnt intend on releasing a fix?

BBB, hasnt been on the Site since 2018. Other members have tried their best to keep things running. There has also been the Promise of updates, etc, this hasnt happened. Yes Hyperspin is good at what it does, it needs updating, but there are other front ends out there, that are easier to setup and are more upto date.

Trying on a VM, on 24h2 Home version it seems to works. Now I have to understand how to install Pro on virtualbox...

Anyway 24h2 breaks lots of stuff and games, not only Hyperspin.

Ok, upgraded to PRO, it still seems to work. Can you try it on a virtual machine? This is weird, maybe virtualbox preventing some 24h2 protection? Fresh 24h2 install, updates done.

There are other frontends like you say, but none better than Hyperspin/RocketLauncher combo (even though nobody has touched it for years)

Launchbox for example is laughable in comparison ... it's so slow it's practically unusual.

Imagine how good Hyperspin would be now with another 6-7 years of improvements !!!!

That is the problem, there hasnt been any Improvements in years. If the source was made avaliable, others could finish the work that the great BBB had started.

What I am saying is that people keep coming back to Hyperspin because even without any improvements it's still better than ALL other frontends ( I have Launchbox setup with over 600 wheels and it's laughably bad in comparison) Like a Ferrari with a Fiat Punto engine (Looks great from the outside, but is as slow as hell)

Hyperspin with the same systems performs perfectly well and until another frontend does that, Hyperspin will always be my go to.

Yes, I don't understand why it's not Open Source if he doesn't want to maintain it anymore.

Major improvements could be made overnight by others in these forums, that's for sure.

The same could be said about Rocketlauncher. DJVJ had a massive falling out with people on here, hence the split and again, development just stopped.

As far as I know BBB said HS uses some commercial flash libraries so it can't actually go open source

I know it's easy to be frustrated with the quiet around here in recent years, but don't take that to mean nothing's happening. When I said in another thread that "big things are in the works", I meant exactly that. I'll add that you all will know what I'm talking about very soon. I can't wait. That's all I can say right now. 😉

I know, everybody means well and people try to Keep Hyperspin runnung, with one hand tied behind thier back. But sorry, I've been here long enough, to hear these promises before, many times before. It would be nice to see some actual prof.
