searching through the forum I found several topics about transitions and overrides, but none of them really explain how they are made.

is there anyone that can explain to me how these are made ?

I have an mp4.. it's a greenscreen Tie Fighter render, flying towards the screen.

I have a After Effects installed and I'm Current;y in the process of having to "key" out the green screen. so that I'm left with a the Tie Fighter on a transparent backrgound.

Am I supposed to export this move to Flash Professional? Because I need to set a que in flash (I have no clue how to do that either But I learn quickly).

Could anyone shine there light on this subject because it is one of the less documented features of Hyperspin.

it's nice to see people looking at these artifacts.

Thanks my friend!

dear me..every day Google finds new Transition related topics on this forum ... allow me to quote BBB

Thanks to all those that supported the orginal transition project to help pay for the artist time in making them. From here on out you can make your own transitions with programs such as after effects or your favorite video effects software.

All current packs are available on the FTP.

To make transitions we ask that if you share them please make them in a few sizes like the ones that came in the original packs.

15 - 30 fps is fine, the lower the better the performance.

First create a video you want in after effects for example , the transition should be 1 - 2 seconds in length and at some point between then you should have your object transition the screen and cover the entire canvas or some kind of flash or something.

Once you are done save the file as an alpha .mov file. This will be your source file.

Open Adobe Media Encoder and just drag your file to the app. Click on the settings for the file and go to the advanced setttings screens.

Make sure you click the checkbox that says alpha. You can toy with the settings for various performance such as bitrate and framerate.

You can save your profile also to keep your settings.

After than on the left side make sure to drag the playhead slider for the start, end and cuepoints.

Drag the start slider to where exactly you want the video to start, and drag the end slider to where you want the video to end. Drag the third slider to where your transition happens.

Click the plus (+) sign and add cuepoint for event.

Give this cuepoint a name of "Transition" without the quotes and with a capitol T.

Back out and process your que and thats it.

Name the file the rom name and stick it in your overrides dir for an override transtiion or stick it in the transitions dir with any name for use as a random transition.

Post some stuff you make here if you know how to make these or maybe in the graphic forum.

Thanks,

BBB

thank you BadBoyBill.. I'll try and figure out what you mean exactly...

I've viewed some of these transition FLV files and they appear blank so I thought there was some alpha transparency magic going on myself but let us know what you find.

Well I'm happy to say that initial experiments are looking pretty good.

I've made a clip in Adobe premiere. using a green back ground for the first Video layer and added a the main clip on the second.

I had an Iris fade in and a Bar fade out.. turned the opacity of the green background to 0%, effectively fading in and out on a transparent background.

I exported to an FLV using the codec that BBB mentioned in one of his threads. preserving the alpha channel.

and guess what..it actually showed up.. and it nicely faded in and showed my Tie fighter bombing run on the asteroid. however when fading out it doesn't show the background of the current system, but the system it had loaded previously....

any ideas ? I'm guessing that has to do with that cue script

It looks like sometimes the artworks hide the transition a little?

Theres another setting where you can tell the artworks and video to wait for the video cue point.

Nice! I was hoping if I ever get time... to make each consoles boot up screen the transition when entering each wheel. I have one already that #I found for the Wii and it looks great.... problem is ... just no time :(

Do you know what is wrong with mine ?

Transitions are made with after effects, and have to be exported to include all aspect ratios. It's a major pain in the balls

PM rondar, he made a few but arrived at the same conclusion.

Yah I understand that, Currently I'm interested in the technique... for instance why is after effects so important...

That, I couldn't answer. All I can say is that when I offered to make some, BadBoyBill said it was imperative that after effects was used. After he explained the steps to me in detail, it really put me off on it. They seem to be really time consuming

I understand that he explained it to you a couple of years ago, but can you remember some of the specifics ? and would you be so nice as to share them here ?

It is possible to directly output files from after effect with alpha channel. Flv is needed as it is the only codec to include alpha channel (technically h264 encapsuled in .mp4 should use alpha channel but i''ve not seen encoder capable of that). If you see in my folder on FTP Upload Here/dark13/Aeon nox 13 source files/Main menu video template/ there's an after effect template for aeon nox XIII main menu videos, it has the setting to export a .flv with alpha channel.

@baddeolv I don't get the ratio stuff, as far as i know a video can't have multiple ratio...

I didn't get it either dark, this conversation went down in 2009 when the transitions were still a "new" addition. I honestly, couldn't give you any useful insight on the subject these days. All I remember is the after effects prerequisite, and something about exporting several different aspects. I'll give billy a call and try to get specifics.

I'll see what I can do with this.. setting a marker and labeling it "transition" is key it seems.. Tomorrow I'm going to import my FLV in AE and add the marker ..see how that works :) thank you Baddeolv This has been insight full

*edit* had to look it up, and I'm currently rendering the flv and firing up my vm hyperspin

https://helpx.adobe.com/after-effects/using/layer-markers-composition-markers.html

*edit 2* crap.. added a mark, edited it so it had a flash cue called transition, but the proper background wouldn't load. :( I'll have to give this more thought...

if someone gets a hold of an after effects project file for an existing transition please upload it to FTP or PM it to me.

i'm a fairly advanced AE user so I'd be interested in seeing it.

thanks.

Adding three Marker/Flash cue points(events) did it.

you need to give the middle one the name: Transition (capital T is important) it has no parameters defined.

the first one is placed at the beginning of the clip and the last one at the end of it.. and that basically all you have to do.

I will work it out.

here is the finished Transition, you can drop it in your hyperspin\media\video\override folder and give it a name of your systems

ok so i'm seeing the tie fighter bombing run video in the transition but i'm not seeing any masking other than the standard random circular wipe or horizontal blinds.

all of which appear below the artwork above it.

am i doing something wrong?

thats my noobish ness showing... the the wipes I put their because It's for my starwars system theme..and they used alot of those wipes in those movies. so that's why.. personally I'm not sure how I can put those other Artwork layer below it using code in the FLV...
