Dazz Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 HA - I can tell you one thing... Around this time last year I was about 285lb. I picked up playing Disc Golf (Texas is prime area for disc golf). I've been playing just a little over a year now and have been trying to get out to play 2-3 times per week. The mix of walking and all of the twisting made me drop lbs pretty quickly. I'm now about 220lb and plan to be around 180-175lb by the end of summer. I'm sure if I changed my eating habits I'd probably drop the weight faster, but I haven't changed anything other than getting out and playing.
HazzardActual Posted April 17, 2015 Author Posted April 17, 2015 I wish I had the time to go out and play. Ive got a buddy up in dallas that plays frequently, I think he became part of a national league recently
Dazz Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 I wish I had the time to go out and play. Ive got a buddy up in dallas that plays frequently, I think he became part of a national league recently I joined the PDGA (Professional Disc Golf Association) last year and slowly getting my national ranking up. We have some really really good players in every tournament that I've played in. I always come end up around the middle of the field. I was saying the same thing about not having time to get out and workout. I ended up forcing myself to make time and get out whenever I could. My wife sees how much I enjoy playing and the weight that I have lost in doing it. So she supports me in getting out to play and doesn't complain too much when I go. My buddy and I make sure that we get out at the least every Sunday morning (sometimes Saturday morning as well). We leave the house around 7:30 or 8:00am and home around 12:30 or 1:00. On weekends my family is just about waking up around noon, so they don't even know I'm gone. Thankfully we live in an area that has a dozen or so courses in the area and have a couple within 5 miles of my house. Ha, just ask BadBoyBill, Circo, and Baddeolv how much weight I've lost. Baddeolv just went about bonkers when I walked up to him a couple weeks ago when I picked him up for TPF.
HazzardActual Posted April 17, 2015 Author Posted April 17, 2015 Im unfortunately one of those people that requires motivation to get up and go out. I dont really have any friends to go do shit with. There is a course over by my mother in laws house, but I dont have any discs any more. Last year during hyperfit I was just walking down to the middle school track and doing a few laps, I guess I should try and do the same this year.

suspendedhatch Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 A couple years ago I noticed I was starting to get a big belly. Weighed myself at work at 199lbs (6'1") and that was a big surprise for me. I've been vegan for a long time already so I was eating pretty decently, but I had been drinking a lot, eating chips and soda and eating a lot of bread and processed food. Switching from loading trucks to being a graphic designer (without cutting back on eating) didn't help either. I don't have the attention span to count calories and I can't stand diet food, so I went about my own way of slimming down and it has been working so far. Soda and alcohol on weekends only, pretty much only Friday night or Saturday (all day lol). The only other time I'll have a soda is when I go out to eat or for some other kind of special occasion. No more chips and soda at work though I'll have a chai latte on Monday morning to wake me up. I don't like sweet stuff like candybars and cookies so that has never been a problem for me. I have pretty much quit eating bread except at restaurants. Instead I'll substitute a tortilla, lettuce wrap, "sandwich thin", or just eat stuff that doesn't need bread or a bun. I've also cut back on pasta. Don't buy it and you wont eat it. Portion control aka shrink your stomach. Not your belly, your actual stomach organ. If you eat smaller portions, even if you have to eat more often at first, you'll fill up fast and so you can keep eating as you are now but much less of it and not have to starve. Best ways I have found to do this are to cut your portion in half before you even start eating, put the other half in some tupperware and put it away. Same thing but with a to-go box at the restaurant, right off the bat. If you get hungry again in an hour, and you will at first, break that out and eat it. Do that for a while and your stomach will shrink, you'll get full fast and you wont be going back for the second half-portion. Before every meal, eat like a salad or raw fruit and veggies. You can dip them in ranch (I make my own vegan ranch out of vegenaise and tofutti sour cream with apple vinegar and spices) or peanut butter if it's carrots. You can snack on that instead of having an additional meal. It's highly addictive vs hating what you are eating and losing motivation. You'll eat much less of the "good stuff" but you're still satisfied since you got to eat it at all. If you eat when you get bored as I do sometimes, find a task that requires lots of concentration (like hyperspin), or go off on an adventure where there's no access to food, and keep delaying the time until you eat. Doing this it took me most of a year to get back down to 175 which is what I weighed in highschool. I didn't do much exercise but that would have made it much faster and I'd have a better body if I did, so that is what I'm working on now. For exercise I suggest joining a meetup.com group and do some light hiking or any kind of activity, it doesn't have to be a serious sport or yoga. Just get your ass up and moving. On the other hand, if you start building muscle you'll look a lot better and burn calories a lot lot faster. Push ups and core exercises are great and for bulk muscles you need weights. This is in no way scientific but it works for me, and besides, those meat only diets aren't scientific either. Carbs are your friends as long as they're not processed carbs. I don't treat this as a diet. It's more like a lifestyle change and a routine. I love the food I eat.
gigapig Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Weighed myself today and I'm 180lb (12 stone 9) 255 days since I was on Wii Fit last. In that time I have put on 12lbs, so I have some work to do. but it will be done mainly through diet.
