The HyperSpin 2 early access beta is here!

We’re starting the first public testing phase with Platinum Members to keep the scope manageable while we test the current feature set and begin to add more. In the future, we’ll provide a version for basic members as well.  On behalf of the entire HyperSpin team, we look forward to another exciting adventure with our community.

The website won't allow me to attach.  Here is what it says

"Error opening your XML source list:

An error occurred while parsing EntityName.  Line 4155, position 36.

Odds are your XML file contains invalid characters.  Were you using rom2xml? If so that might be your problem"

EDIT - I think it's identifying the "&" signs on some of these lines.  I went to that line in the xml and it's &.  Going to try and remove or change

EDIT 2 - I removed all & and I don't receive the error message but the program crashes instantly.  I'm in windows 8

If you're still having teething issues with the xml download this program.

http://depositfiles.com/files/03neucef8

I use it to clean up xmls that are a little buggy.

Run the program and make a new backup of the xml.

Then run the new xml through dons tools.

Good luck.

Where did you get the XML that you are selecting when Don's Rom Renamer is asking for "HyperList XML or DAT File? In other Don's Tools this is also called the HyperSpin Source XML.

If you use the updated one from-- this site "Downloads"----->HyperBase------>SystemYouAreRenaming Database, it should be a properly formatted XML. It will also provide information that will make renaming your roms easier, specifically the CRC hash which is unique for each rom/file. This of course is dependant on where you got your roms. HyperSpin prefers No-Intro naming convention and roms originating from this source matches the CRC hash. Years ago, I also built a No-Intro set from a GoodSet of roms due to the CRC hash matching the (!) rom, but a No-Intro set is easier. If the CRC hash of your rom matches with that listed in the XML, renaming with Don's Renamer is almost automatic. I say almost, due to some systems containing file headers which affect the CRC. Don's Rom Renamer can provide information to help you with these systems. Of these, I believe only certain Atari Lynx sets are still problematic.

Lastly, Don's Tools are particularly useful for file and cartridge based systems. I would not recommend using them with disc based systems or with MAME. MAME is best with CLRMamePro. For disc based systems, this is usually the last systems people get into due to file size. At that time, you will probably be more aware of the hazards and will have your own method for renaming them.
