In HLHQ/RLUI disable the keymapper for that system. I don't know how you can disable vjoy though.

I've tried disabling it straight from AAE's main settings tab and I've also tried disabling it from the keymapper tab. Nothing works unfortunately.

So I've finally got AAE working right only to have this bork it up.

Is it possible to create an AHK script that goes into Device Manager and disables it when AAE launches and then enables it again when AAE exits?

Just out of interest, how do you want the game to look? I've tried taking some comparison screen shots but they don't do it justice.

Not sure what you mean exactly. I just want the Vector games (as many as possible at least) to actually look like vector games. Mame does a decent job, but AAE looks quite a bit better. The AAE glow and slight phosphor trail look better. The lines actually have points like they should. The lines look far closer to straight vector beams. Asteroids and Asteroids Deluxe (the two most important) have the correct glowing bullets while the MAME version completely lacks that detail etc...

Problem was that update 1 looks good except it was before he programmed in actual 16:9 support so you can't get the screen ratio exactly right. Update 2 fixes that perfectly, fixes several other games too, but he never finished joystick support and simply having the VJoy drivers enabled causes it to crash. It seems to do no good disabling VJoy in the normal ways if the drivers are still running in Device Manager, but if you shut them off in Device Manager AAE suddenly works and runs great.

I'm losing my mind. I spent hours upon hours yesterday trying to figure out how to right a script to do it, found a dev tool called Devcon that lets you control Device Manager through command line, learned how to use it and it can disable anything with one command... except of course VJoy doesn't seem to respond to it.

Dealing with AAE just isn't worth the hassle anymore.

It was a hassle to get it all running perfectly, but that was only because of Vjoy causing update 2 to crash.

If someone isn't running VJoy then it sets up easy and looks worlds better than MAME running vector games.

Some games require VJoy to work properly though (Mortal Kombat X) so I wrote an AHK script that enables/disables the VJoy drivers and now I have them playing nice together.

Well, if you find it a hassle to get AAE setup perfectly, you're really going to enjoy having to redo all your configurations when it suddenly decides to eat them. (And yes, I'm serious.)

Ha! First I've heard of that issue and that does sound pretty lame. Pretty sure I have a backup of my config though so fixing it will hopefully be no harder than renaming the file.

And setting up AAE itself is pretty easy and straightforward. It was just coming up with a way for it to coexists with VJoy that was a pain in the ass. Still, it plays vector games so much better than MAME it was worth the aggravation.
