xisorshadow Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 I'm having no end of trouble getting hyperspin configured and setup, can someone suggest a way that is in no way convoluted, in which to easily select specific mame games to add to my list, without having to parse a one million line xml file? I need an easier method here, because this is backwards, convoluted, and makes me not even want to use hyperspin.
iNTiGOD Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 Why not try don's hyperspin tools. Simply point the program to your database and rom folder and you can use it to generate new xml files very easily. It's found in the download section
xisorshadow Posted June 15, 2015 Author Posted June 15, 2015 because when i load the xml it still lists over 9 thousand titles, its too much data to sift through, i need a way not only to trim the mame set down to a few hundred games, but then generate an xml from those few hundred games rather than pruning the full xml. so i need a program that can easily get rid of non working games, get rid of all copies of the same game except the usa version, etc etc, to trim 32000 files down to a few hundred, automatically. and THEN i need a program that can read that trimmed list of files and make a hyperspin xml from it, also automatically. because its just too much data. Basically hyperspin looks great, but the backend is a mess and badly needs to be made user friendly, because as it stands now, its so convoluted that people are making money selling pre-configured hyperspin hard drives, because of how difficult it is to work with. It says a lot that instead of using hyperspin's own tools, they tell you to use not one but at least two third party tools just to make hyperspin function properly. I'm very frustrated by all of this, and would love to use hyperspin, i became a platinum member years and years ago, in 2009, but from then, all the way to today, things havent gotten any easier at all to work with.
iNTiGOD Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 I don't bother trimming my xmls. I use brollys xmls which are excellent (he removes mahjong games, casino and adult games). Then in hyperhq I show only the parent wheels. This cuts down the list significantly making it easier for making a favorites list. My favorites list (about 200games) is what I use in my setup.
connorsdad Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 I have a custom xml with around 200 popular games from the late 80's - early 90's, it maybe easier to edit mine to your liking. Will post a link later if you like.
32assassin Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 their are multiple ways to trim down the list. I got mine to down to 3000ish games. - no clones -no mature -no quiz - no dancing games - no mahjon - no PlayChoice-10 (rather play those games on my NES wheel) - no Mega-Tech (rather play those games on my Genesis/Megadrive) - no 4 player controls - set P2 versions as parents. - removed duplicate parent games. sorry to tell you this but their is no magic wand that will trim the list to your personal taste. the only easy way to do this is with the HyperHQ filters, and they will remove games you want to have. I use multiple programs in order to do this. Start by getting HyperTools-4.3.25 1. Split the MAME XML into Genres with HyperTools-4.3.25/Split HyperList.exe 2. Move the genres XMLs that contain the list of games you don't want to a temp folder. I move all Mature, Quiz ect to this folder. move all your other XMLs of games you don't want into this folder ( I had to manually build the PlayChoice and MegaTech and a few other XMLs) 3. Merge the XMLs in your Temp folder with HyperTools-4.3.25/Merge HyperLists. 4. Learn how to use HyperTools-4.3.25/Filter HyperList.exe Your Merged XML from step 3 will be used as a list to "Exclude" remove all the games you don't want from the Official XML. from here add all the "Parent" roms to the "Output" list. and export the Output list as your filtered XML. 5. You will find out that their are probably 100s of clone games that you want on your list but you removed them in step 4. Manually make an XML of the clone games you want to re add to your final XML. Once you have your final clone game XML use HyperTools-4.3.25/Merge HyperLists. to merge your two XMLs again. 6. When a new version of MAME is released repeat the process, The process will go much faster the second time because you where smart enough to make XMLs and you did not add/remove any games manually.
iNTiGOD Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Here you go. This is 0.163 version. Thank you to Brolly as always
iNTiGOD Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Are these available for download Intigod? Here you go. This is 0.163 version. Thank you to Brolly
jones.ben1977 Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Awesome! I just gotta figure out what version of Mame I have. I am only very new to H.S so there is a lot of entry level stuff that I am still learning but I love the idea of what Brolly has done with this! Thanks mate!

Right click on MAME.exe > Properties > Details Tab or run mame from command prompt using the following command mame.exe -?
jones.ben1977 Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 I tried replacing database in Mame with one of Brolly's databases and renamed exactly the same so that the system would know to load Mame.Xml but now the Mame wheel won't open at all, is there anything else I need to do when editing databases like this? shouldn't it automatically load up? I am able to launch Mame games via RL. I also am having troubles configuring 360 controller to Mame but that's a whole other story!
Metalzoic Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 because when i load the xml it still lists over 9 thousand titles, its too much data to sift through, i need a way not only to trim the mame set down to a few hundred games, but then generate an xml from those few hundred games rather than pruning the full xml. so i need a program that can easily get rid of non working games, get rid of all copies of the same game except the usa version, etc etc, to trim 32000 files down to a few hundred, automatically. and THEN i need a program that can read that trimmed list of files and make a hyperspin xml from it, also automatically. because its just too much data. If you only want a few hundred games why trim down the full XML at all? Why not just cut/paste the games you want from the full datatbase into your own custom one.? That shouldn't take to long if you know the games you want. Or even quicker just reduce your roms to just the games you want. No need to delete the ones you don't want, just copy the ones you do want into their own folder and set the path in HyperHQ/HyperSpin/RocketLauncher to that set. Set HyperSpin/HyperHQ to filter your wheel by Roms Only and boom. You're done. No need to even alter the full xml at all. If you know the games you want you could probably do this in about an hour.
