hi guys,

i have absolutely no knowledge when it comes to hyperspin setups which is what lead me to this website
http://www.hyperspin-systems.com/collections/all/products/external-drive-2tb-usb-3-0-with-hyperspin-85-systems-emulated

i will be making a purchase from Australia so id just like to ask a few questions beforehand.

1. is there a recommended fightstick to use with hyperspin that is cost effective? i plan to run the program from my laptop then run a hdmi to a tv. so i was looking to either make my own usb fightstick or buy one with alot of button inputs. like this
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/371357187584?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

2. can i use different controllers at anytime depending on what platform im playing? e.g. can i use my fightstick to play mame then change it to a usb gamecube remote to play gamecube games? and set the controls to suit each platform instead of being stuck with one?

3. do the wiimotes work with the wii games on a bluetooth compatible laptop?

4. can i save or load states on any emulated game at anytime?

thank you for anyhelp guys as id really like to buy this but prove to my wife that its not going to be a sinkhole of money.

#1 : this site doesn't recommend buying those hard drives. If you read through the forum you will see they can be a waste of money and time. They typically aren't configured properly and most people need to come here for help anyway. If you are willing to spend the money for only the HDD and roms that's fine, but be prepared to configure stuff yourself. Regarding the fight stick, that is more an emulator issue and not hyperspin. The one you link to looks fine, as most joysticks work with the emulators.

2. Yes, and again this is an emu thing. If you also use RocketLauncher in conjunction with Hyperspin it has many features that make this very easy.

3. Yes, again that is a dolphin emulator feature not really a hyperspin thing.

4. Yes, using the emulator functionality. Again if you use RocketLauncher as well it has a lot of features for that as well.

Personally if you have the ability to get the roms yourself, or at least a few roms, I would try to download Hyperspin/RocketLauncher yourself and get it setup for a few systems. Once you get comfortable you can decide if your money is better spent on platinum memberships to get better access / tools than on that hard drive. I believe you will find you get the hard drive, need to do a lot of tweaks, and then will decide you need the platinum membership anyway. As an FYI, This forum can't assist in getting roms but Google is your friend, it will guide you on that journey.

Regarding your wife, pretty sure she will always think this is a sinkhole of money, weather it is $1 or $150 dollars. You make it to spend it, and you can always just lie.

There have been plenty of threads about these products. Don't buy them. These setups tend to be out of date, poorly configured and if something goes wrong there is no technical support. Not sure if you have noticed but the demo video doesn't show systems loading and how the emulators are configured.

You are far better of supporting this website by purchasing a membership and purchasing a membership at emu movies (to support those that create video snaps for hyperspin).

If you set it up yourself you will have a better understanding if something goes wrong. There are plenty of excellent tutorials to get you started and plenty of helpful people around. Once you setup a couple systems it becomes very simple.

In answering your other questions.

1. Not sure.... I have always used either a gamepad or built my own setup using zippy or sanwa joysticks.

2. Yes

3. Note sure... haven't setup gamecube yet.

4. Yes, either using Pause in the rocketlauncher application or within an emulator.

Ha! That's the same drive I bought. Half the price of most and most of it worked just fine right out of the box. However all the emulators, roms, Hyperspin and HyperLaunchHQ versions were so ancient I still had to scrap it and re-do the entire setup from scratch. It also ships out of Spain and it took nearly 40 days for it to arrive here in the US.

Don't buy it.

In the time it takes for it to arrive you could already be a pro and have yours setup from scratch.

I concur, please don't buy that drive you'll probably regret it and if the wife finds out you spent money on a dud and on things you can get for free, she'll be pissed.

Here's the most up to date guide.

Get rocketLauncher from Here.

For Roms get yourself on a private tracker like Pleasure Dome, Bit Gamer or Black Cats Games. Remember DO NOT ask for Roms on this forum.

1. I would get a fight stick that also supports the Xbox 360, but I'm sure the PC/PS3 ones would work, Qanba make some good ones and Hori. http://www.play-asia.com/search/arcade+stick. You can also make your own if your handy. Mine is made out of an old Xbox 360 controller, some buttons a stick and a box. Or just a 360 controller on it's own.

2. You can set preferred controllers in RocketLauncher.

3. Your best bet is to buy a Dolphin Bar but you can use bluetooth to connect your Wiimotes but it's a hassle and the Lappy Bluetooth may not be compatible. Try connecting a Wiimote and try to use the original Wiimotes with the Lappy BT, Dolphin Bar should be fine with TR remotes and some cheaper Chinese ones.

4. Depends on the emulator I think.

Everyone thank you for your reply it's great to see everyone's thought. Like I said I am a newbie when it come to this iv only seen videos which is what inspired me to look at running hyperspin it really looks out of this world.

I have hacked a win before to run emulators through wiiflow but it took me a long time to nut it out. (About 3 months) do you guys feel that it would be a long process to learn how it all works following gigapigs tutorials? I'm sorry but I don't know what rocket launcher is either.

Also is there a section I can see for more info on the platinum membership as I'd like to know more about what you mean when you say there are better access and tools pofo14

Is there a guide to building a xbox360 fightstick like making the box etc?

Metal zoic thanks for letting me know your experience.

Is it possible it would be a good starting base as its cheap for a 2tb HD let alone with everything on it

I love how the site you linked emphasizes their great 2TB drives. Granted, you can fit a lot of fun stuff on a 2TB drive. But when you start wondering about Gamecube and Wii, much less all the other systems they advertise as being completely set up and plug & play, the more you should doubt what they are selling. It's not realistic. Now if you know what you are getting (and you will never truly know until you have already paid for it) and understand that they are purposely misrepresenting what they sell, you may be happy in the end.

And by "in the end", I mean after you discard the outdated pieces, update it, figure out what doesn't work because it wasn't included even though it was advertised or was obsolete, etc, etc. If Hyperspin is still your goal after all that, you will likely end up back here.

It's good you came here first for information. This hobby usually ends up as a journey, not a destination. There will be road blocks. It is difficult or easy depending on how well you can research, follow instructions, put 2 and 2 together, and apply what you have learned to your next goal. Just to encourage you to put your other foot in the water, I suggest you search for SimplyAustin on youtube. That will give you a synopsis of what you can do yourself. Then get in the necessary DIY mindset, choose realistic systems to set up initially, get yourself a hard drive (will probably end up being bigger than 2TB eventually) and get started.

Also, re-read Gigapig's post above. Good luck with whatever you choose.

If you've looked over the site for that drive you may believe that it's a large company out of New York, in truth it's a fat Spanish guy. Luckily you did what most don't and you came here first.  :goodjob:

I've sent you some links to get you started and I wouldn't worry about Platinum & Emumovies membership just yet. If you want to set it up yourself get the software running first and get familiar with it.

With regard to the arcade stick, you're going to need tools, you may need to solder so you'll need to know how to solder or learn that as well. Youtube is a good place to learn or Arcade controls and Slagcoin.

There's also ebay for a second hand controller.

I would say that drive would be a bad base to start from. You will have no idea at all how any of it works, how it was setup, where things are or any knowledge of how to fix or customize the things you want unless you do it yourself. And because you don't know it will be that much harder for anyone to be able to help you when you need it.

However If you follow the guides/video tutorials you can have Hyperspin with RocketLauncher setup and running MAME in 1 day (other than time spent downloading roms) and just getting that done will give you a decent grasp on how the basics all work. Then from there you can add more systems. You could potentially have all the basic ones setup and running how you want before that drive even arrived in the mail.
