mccorkled Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 This system has had me hung up for a while and I was wondering if someone could help me. I tried several emulators and finally settled on WinKawaks because it is easy to configure controllers. The problem is with configuring controllers haha. It wants me to configure each game separately, and only after each game is loaded can I configure. Simple enough controller that I want to map to my xbox one controllers. Any ideas? Rotgut Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 Why not use MAME to run all of the Neo Geo games? That's what I did and never a problem, ever.
phulshof Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 What mame command do you use? For mame neogeo I seem to be stuck in some sort of system test mode.
Rotgut Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 What mame command do you use? For mame neogeo I seem to be stuck in some sort of system test mode. What I mean is, use MAME as your emulator... to run the NeoGeo roms. Are you running MAME at all? Already? If MAME is aleady setup and running for you, it's just a matter of getting double-duty out of MAME and having it * also * run your Neo Geo games in a separate Theme. When you are in HyperHQ and set up SNK Neo Geo AES as a "New" system, just point it at the MAME exe for your executable/emulator... literally, no one would be the wiser that MAME is running the games and not some other emulator... do you follow?
phulshof Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 Well, I was trying for the home neogeo system, but I cannot get the cards to run. Of course I could run the arcade version in stead, but I don't like giving up that easily.
Rotgut Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 Do the games for the "Card" version roms look or play any different than the regular roms? Sorry, I'm not 100% familiar with the diff versions. I would say that if the games are identical in every aspect, then just use the Neo Geo AES HS Theme as a disguise to what really runs the game roms... MAME. No?
phulshof Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 Well, the home system did not have a coin system for one. Since I can't get the games to run I don't know about other differences.
mccorkled Posted September 4, 2015 Author Posted September 4, 2015 Thread jack? I do not like MAME. Aeon Nox XIII Themes Minted Cases w/ Reflection : Minted Cases : Minted XMLs
Dunk3000 Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 Games are same, but in AES mode you don't insert credits and many games let you choose difficulty in game (arcade version had difficulty set by dipswitches). So the purist would be able to tell difference. Mess could always do AES version well. My mess is still compiled separate from mame, but now both mess and mame same binary there must be a way to activate true AES mode in the combined mame too. Sadly I haven't tried it yet so cannot say how exactly, though you'll definitely need the AES bios, so if u haven't got that, that's ur issue Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk

Dunk3000 Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 Can we please stick to the question I asked and not someone elses that has nothing to do with the topic?Sorry mate, was on my phone and everyone was talking about difference between AES and MVS so assumed that was topic.I see now you want an easy way to configure controllers in winkawaks. I've never used that so cannot help. Apologies for contributing to your thread going off topic; I'll read entire threads in future. Hope someone can help you Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk

Dunk3000 Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 What about the save keys as default option? Bottom setting in this drop down menu.
mccorkled Posted September 4, 2015 Author Posted September 4, 2015 Hmmm, when I go to setup the keys it wants to map them as if I was at an arcade machine. 6 buttons rather than 4. I may have to go to MAME but I would hate to have such a large program for just one system. Edit: I have decided to use RetroArch now that it is user friendly. Thanks. Metalzoic Posted September 5, 2015 Posted September 5, 2015 Retroarch user friendly compared to MAME? That's the first time I've ever heard anyone say that. I get you don't want to use MAME, but it runs NEO GEO MVS and AES damn near perfectly.
SkyHighGam3r Posted September 5, 2015 Posted September 5, 2015 I had some trouble with WinKawaks a few months ago when I was trying to set it up and pushed it to the side.I also hate MAME, and have recently fallen in love with RetroArch. Now I've setup RetroArch with the Neo Geo games, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to change it from MVS to AES mode...

Maybe you can find out something different. Interested to know. Aeon Nox XIII Themes Minted Cases w/ Reflection : Minted Cases : Minted XMLs
SkyHighGam3r Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Physically, yes they are different cartridges. On the actual data side though, it's just a mode you can switch. You can do this easily in WinKawaks, and other emulators. If nothing else, I was able to switch my copy of Snk vs Capcom over to the console version in WinKawaks.
SIMPLYAUSTIN Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 change the bios file and you get a dif version Only 1-2 games are actually dif from actual arcades to home version. One of which being completely dif however both can use the same setups Simply Austin's YouTube
SkyHighGam3r Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 YES! Thank you Simply Austin. You're Simply the best! Now I can play Snk vs Capcom till my fingers bleed. =D change the bios file and you get a dif version Only 1-2 games are actually dif from actual arcades to home version. Metalzoic Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Like the others said, it's just a mode changed my the bios. I have an actual MVS arcade machine and a little over 120 games, but since I have Raz's Unibios I can play any of them in either AES or MVS mode as imply as changing the menu option.
SkyHighGam3r Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 I am so envious. I saw one a couple times, but was never given change to play them.20 years later, and SNK is one of my favorite companies lol

Metalzoic Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Is there a way to do this n RetroArch? No idea. You can in MAME and the dedicated Geo emu's (far as I've tried).
