epetti Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 I think the systems only would be nice too, but then the balance would look strange without the mascots. I think the balance would be fine because if the system was on the left it would be balanced out by the scroll wheel on the right. It's frustrating in a lot of themes that the list of games gets covered up by the theme.
jkonami Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 I think the balance would be fine because if the system was on the left it would be balanced out by the scroll wheel on the right. It's frustrating in a lot of themes that the list of games gets covered up by the theme. Oh hey, good point!
gibbawho Posted July 12, 2013 Author Posted July 12, 2013 It would also be nice if the machine was always on the same side and the character always on the same side. I wanted this too initially. Sadly, the front angle on some systems just looks better on the other side. Particularly sega genesis, master-system, and tg16. The defining features of the actual consoles (at least as i see them) are on the right side, so showing only the left side popping out just doesn't feel right. So I just tried to keep all sega reversed for *close to* consistency. This is the final layout i'm releasing (plus a 4:3 version) but i'll put all my psd's and flash documents I make in the process available to all so you can feel free to tweak them to your liking.
gibbawho Posted July 12, 2013 Author Posted July 12, 2013 getting close to the first batch of screenshots for the portable systems. next day or 2
kyndigs Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 This is exactly how themes should be, a unified design that follows the same pattern!
keltoigael Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 I so can't wait for this! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGAi8dJWR4bpg1oRfItcPCw
gibbawho Posted July 16, 2013 Author Posted July 16, 2013 Alright, finally got the portable systems done. Also added a Steam theme and updated the Neo Geo CD Theme with slightly better artwork. Enjoy! I'll be updating the OP with these.
gibbawho Posted July 16, 2013 Author Posted July 16, 2013 Thanks, this batch took awhile. I made custom renders for Chip (from Chip's Challenge, Atari Lynx) and the Metal Slug guy (Neo Geo Pocket Color). The Metal Slug guy's hair made the render take like 16 hours. Glad its done though. I feel like I'm painting myself into a corner going with 3d renders of all the mascots. The older and more obscure the system, the less likely there exists any 3d renders of major game characters. I end up having to go with like, a generic spaceship (Supervision) or having to put a ton of work in to make a custom render. BTW All 3d stuff was done with DAZ Studio 4.6 and rendered with 3Delight rendering engine. Used various commercial DAZ content and some free content out there, all pieced together and morphed to get as close as I could to characters who've otherwise never been rendered (at least... that I could find).
gibbawho Posted July 16, 2013 Author Posted July 16, 2013 BTW if anyone knows where I can find a decent 3d render of the baby Chocobo for Wonderswan, let me know.
Crylen Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 BTW if anyone knows where I can find a decent 3d render of the baby Chocobo for Wonderswan, let me know. Either of these work? Neither are from the WS but they could work? baddeolv Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 Everything looks nice and neat, but the period incorrect artwork bugs the shit out of me. To each their own i guess Instagram : baddeolv Facebook : Brian Addeo
gibbawho Posted July 16, 2013 Author Posted July 16, 2013 ... but the period incorrect artwork bugs the shit out of me. an absolutely valid point, and i knew it would bug some people. it just didn't work out with what i was going for. this consistency thing has, at points, been more trouble than its worth but i'm happy with the end result. i plan to do a set (though it won't be quite as inclusive) that i think will me more down your alley.
Rain Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 All I really want is a way to dump my Steam games into my PC Games database easily. I could probably whip up a tool r/q if you want to automate this process. I am well versed in the Steam API. (sorry for hijacking thread.)
gigapig Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 I could probably whip up a tool r/q if you want to automate this process. I am well versed in the Steam API. (sorry for hijacking thread.) I would like that too, Rain.
gigapig Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 Thanks for Steam theme. I'm not Gordon Freemans' greatest fan, but he is a product of Valve so this works great. Fantastic job, the amount of work here looks like years of hard toil, I don't know how you do it so quick.
urbangangsta101 Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 They are nice themes, prob be using a few on my cab. Gotta say though..... that rendered Marco from Metal Slug looks a bit odd...
fifou Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 Could I ask a theme for Amiga, C64, Amstrad CPC systems pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase ? Thx a lot for this great work !!!!
keltoigael Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 I like them all but Marco, I actually really like the FF artsyle of the baby chocobo as is. Are the handhelds going to match the other themes as far as video playback placement? I love how all the main systems all match perfectly, but the handhelds don't really match the universal theme of the rest. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGAi8dJWR4bpg1oRfItcPCw
gibbawho Posted July 16, 2013 Author Posted July 16, 2013 ...that rendered Marco from Metal Slug looks a bit odd... Yeah I can't say i'm perfectly happy with it either. I'm kinda stuck working with what's available. I don't actually do 3d modeling. I just bring in peices and pose them for rendering. So in this case I had to settle for "passable". Could I ask a theme for Amiga, C64, Amstrad CPC systems pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase ? I don't plan on doing any computer system themes. Just game consoles. I will, however, provide my PSD's and Flash documents for anyone who feels like expanding the set. Are the handhelds going to match the other themes as far as video playback placement? I kinda wanted them to be the same initially, but I came to the conclusion that because handheld pics already contain a screen, the controller, and the system in 1 pic ... its better to just show the vids on the handheld screen... otherwise i'm squeezing in a (sometimes very) large picture into the side that already contains a screen, then putting another screen in for the vid. Just didn't make sense to me so i'm just going to do all handhelds consistent with each-other instead of being exactly consistent universally. Based on this feedback I may switch out Marco for a more traditional pic. I doubt I'll be able to get a render resemblance that will satisfy most fans.
Dreygor Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 BTW if anyone knows where I can find a decent 3d render of the baby Chocobo for Wonderswan, let me know. An alternative could be one of the digimon monsters .. theres like 5-6 Digimon games for that system. but but but Commodore Amiga CD32 was a console and Amstrad did have a console also!
manson976 Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 If you ever fancy creating an amiga one I'm sure that many will love
boohiss Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 Awesome job on the hand helds, keep it up! I'll try my best to wait for the finished products.
