Ok when it comes to arcade games performance & visuals I could find only comparisons between CRT and LCD/LED ...

Most of the time I plug my plasma tv to play arcade games ... I just want to know if it is the same difference between CRT and Plasma (as it is betwen CRT and LCD)

Life definately got better when i was able to trash all my CRT's when i found my emachine LCD/LED Monitor at a good will to go with my my emachine "rig".  But life got even much much better when i found  this Samsunf 19" LCD HDTF W/ATSC Tuner to hook up to.  My only dilemma was to game or watch tv cause i not only hooked my "rig" to it i hooked my cable up to it too...lol.  So yes,  LCD/LED is my vote for my gaming needs i forget what CRT was about.

The differences between CRT to LED & CRT to Plasma are not significant.

However I would recommend getting away from plasma TVs in general as they are just horrible. The picture quality compared to LED is bad, and they have a very high burn in rate.

Which if you're playing a game for a long time, is not great 'cause you will start seeing the Hud everywhere.

im not playing on or watching on anything plasma, ive heard to my horror stories ppl talking about how images were burnt into there screens forever and thats way to much money to throw away

Plasmas in general were viewed as the best TV's for gaming due to having the lowest input lag. There have been a ton of articles over the past several years recommending Plasmas for gaming. As far as quality goes the Pioneer Kuro Elite is still in the running for best TV ever produced and it went out of production years before the leap to UHD and 4k. The later Panasonic Plasmas were also considered some of the absolute best TV's ever made for picture quality.

Burn in, while possible, was nearly a non-existent problem 7 or 8 years ago. My current gaming TV is a Panasonic Plasma with 1000's of straight gaming hours on it without any issues. And that's with a lot of time spent on some games, for example I have 540 hours clocked on Battlefield 4. And back in 04 we ran the start screen from Burnout for the original xbox on a Samsung Plasma for 72 hours straight with no burn at all.

The biggest problem with them is just that you can't find them anymore.

bit weird to see all those bad comments about plasma ... but I would choose anytime plasma over LCD/LED ... better for movies better for gaming ... will switch to OLED when the market will become more stable and they will be more affordable

going on topic ... what I was interested in the input lag/blur on plasma compared to CRT (been a long time since I ve used a CRT) ... I m looking for arcade gaming experience not modern games performance.

Generally Plasmas will have much less input lag than LCD/LED or OLED TVs. However the final gen of Panasonic Plasmas did have more input lag than previous models.

I haven't compared lag measurements in a couple years, but there are a couple websites that compare input lag by model if you want to check.

So how bloody low is the input lag on a plasma then? I mean you have TN LCD/LED under 2ms

Posted

.001ms haha no. You guys may want to look up actual tests before saying plasma has superiority over LCD and especially if you are going to mention a number that is nowhere near that of even the best sets out there.

BTW crt>all for retro gaming.

Sounds like you're talking about response time, which isn't the same as input lag.

All joking aside.. I found this site interesting. http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/input-lag

That's a cool site. I bookmarked it for when I go TV shopping next.

If you scroll down they give some interesting reasoning for why plasmas come off so smooth feeling when it comes to input lag.

Also looking at some of the measurments it looks like some of the LCDs have really improved the past couple years. That Sony has really good input speeds.

I think you're right, the total delay on such a 2ms TN screen is like around 16ms total right?

Also there's different way to test that of course. Not really into the monitor thing. Just have 2 that satisfy me for graphical work and what I play as games aren't twitch shooters.

It just amaze me when i follow these threads how much i learn and how much you guys know.  I think a few of you guys oughta colaberate on a book with all the that wells up from here, I'd a copy!  I'm truly amazed and thats not since the army thats happened.  and thats not happened since the 80's to the 90's...lol

Yeah probably. I have a BenQ gaming monitor in my cab that has a 1ms response time, but it's input delay is nowhere near 1 ms.

I had a arcade lcd in my cab that was awesome. I am going to look at some samsung commercial lcds when I am ready for a wall mount. 1. They can do 1024x768 and look awesome and 2. Can do 1920x1080. Thats a win for me anyway. I am not good enuff at games to worry too much about input lag lol
