The Loafer Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 NP. BTW, there is a vid on youtube that has someone using a "webcam wide angle lens" that helps for accuracy and getting closer to the cab. Does anyone know where I could get that? -------------- (this space available for rent)
Zinger19 Posted March 1, 2009 Author Posted March 1, 2009 Just out of curiosity...Has anyone tried using a wiimote as a gun for mame? I would imagine in theory it would work just like the top gun models. I might give it a try Monday just to see if it's possible. NES Arcade Build StarKade: A Raspberry Pi Arcade 80's Toy Collection
vendur Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Please let us know how this works man, I will consider this option, because I love gun games and I love arcade guns. Its worthed to me, to go this route if it works very good. Got the Opti-Gun a few days ago, havent had time to test it yet as my guns need to be modified some first. The cables doesnt quit fit the adapter, so need to solder them straight on the different pins I guess.;-) Should have them tested in a few days

Its kind of expensive but I like the idea of having real arcade guns on the cab. I'm definitely psyched for your review. Flash Theme Tutorial #1 --- Flash Theme Tutorial #2
vendur Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 The light guns I have didnt work properly with the adapter, so I'll have to buy a couple new ones from Happ which is compatible. Another $200 or so with sihpping , but it'll all be worth it I think. And perhaps I can use the metal halfs from my guns, and rebuild them based on the happ electronics. Depends a bit on which guns after all is the coolest.;-) I'll get a red and a blue gun, so they will match P1 and P2 as these also are red and blue.. anyway, as long as I get the guns to work properly I'll be happy. Will be another couple of weeks, as I dont have the money at the moment. they'll b eon their way for sure next payday.. lol.

craiganderson Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 Any updates on which gun is the best? Any limits to the size of the screen with which they can be used (55" LED too big??)) Thanks craig http://craigandersonthemes.weebly.com/
njgsx96 Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 I am not sure if they are the best since they are all I have tried but I just got a pair of AimTrak Ultimarc guns and so far I am very happy with them. Good build quality and nice looking. Good feel. It takes maybe 15-30 minutes to get them configured properly for Windows and MAME but the directions were good so it was fairly smooth. The games I tried in MAME played very well, although I really only had maybe 30 minutes of playing time with them in just a couple games. I will play around with them for the next week and post up a better review but so far, I don't think you can go wrong with these. They are a little pricey at $95 each but you get what you pay for and so far so good, not to mention that Andy has been great for any question I have thrown his way. Good support and customer service is always nice.
Jonnykool Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 AimTrack is excellent in my experience. The line of sight aiming is pretty much spot on if you stand in the sweet spot and configure correctly.
Jumpstile Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 They do suck though if your screen is mounted on an angle... The gun must point directly at the screen - any angle will throw it off. - J* How to rebuild your MAME ROM set using CLRMAMEPRO - Walkthrough HERE!
rfancella Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 I second Jumpstile... My cab's monitor is mounted at an angle and is almost impossible to play any gun games. The tinted (smoked) plexi doesn't seem to effect it much, but I would sure like to change the angle of my monitor. The AimTrak I have is one of the first so he didn't have the cases for the guns yet. I cut a squirt gun in half and mounted it inside and am using a arcade button switch as a trigger... Yea, i'm cheap! I'm an Ultimac fan to the core! langersld Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 I have my screen on a slight angle with no issues... dual aimtraks
Jumpstile Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 I don't know how slight your angle is, but mine and many others have this issue. Once it's calibrated its usable, but to even get that far you have to point the gun at the same angle as the monitor while performing the calibration. majorspawn Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 go for dual aimtraks, you can hide the IR sensor in your cabinet marquee above the monitor, the IR sensor is also compatible with wiimote and dolphin. i have this setup and its very clean, the guns are extremely accurate My Arcade Projects: SNES PC Project Vewlix Cabinet LS-30 Rotary Joysticks
njgsx96 Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 I have my monitor at an angle as well without any issue. I even asked Andy about this as well as searching forums and sites for complaints before I purchased it. I calibrated and followed the directions and it works real well. I guess my monitor is on a 15 degree angle, maybe? Only issue I have is I had to scrape away some of the paint I used to make the black surround so the sensor could function. Now I need a new piece of plexi. What I have will do for now though!
