DrMoney Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2013/09/steam-controller/ I for one am pretty excited, though I worry how it'll fare for platformers and fighting games. I'll wait till there's an instore demo for sure though. TUTORIAL!: Xpadder and You If you're super into using genuine controllers for emulation check THIS GUY out.
THK Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 Wow that looks weird, hope to see some (p)reviews soon! I was at least thinking of trying out the Xbox One controller to replace my 360 ones at some point if it were any good, but this deserves some looking in to ..........................back with a vengeance........................
zomboided Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Probably work just fine for FPSs, but for games that use buttons, I'm not so sure. And I thought SFIV absolutely sucked to play with an analogue stick, I can't even begin to imagine how bad it'll be with a touch pad (probably worse that when I tried to play Alpha on the PS2 with a dance mat.....) I'm generally excited about what Valve are trying to do and I've stopped getting games for the PS3/Xbox where I can get them on Steam now. As long as whatever hardware comes along still supports my funky home made joysticks, and allows me to install a bunch of emulation software, then it'll all be good. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
mesk Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Im excited for the controllers legacy mode, ill be able to play some of those KB+M only PC games, like Oblivion on the couch, feet up like all gaming should be
Mr Black Arm Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 Weird. There is a distinct difference between console and PC gaming. I don't see how this will work very well.
Avar Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 I think it will be fine for enabling kb+m games to be played well on controller but I feel it's a very poor design. There's a good reason the original PSX controller (and XBox controller, which is derivative of it) have been the staple for almost two decades now.
onilink55 Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 I'm really looking forward to it. It looks like it sits somewhere in the middle. It's not better than M+KB and it's not better than a traditional controller. But for someone like me, I use an HTPC currently and sync an Xbox controller to it. If I want to play PC games I need to bring out some sort of table because mouse and keyboard becomes my only option. For this reason I tend to only get into PC games that are controller friendly. It would be nice to be able to play Starcraft from my couch. I don't think it's designed for competitive gaming or for those looking for absolute precision. Instead it's a way to say now you can play M+KB games while on your couch, without having to having to lean forward. By the way, here is a recent Valve video of the controller in action:
sandman7793 Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Thought i would bring this thread back. The Steam OS beta has dropped here in the usa (only). Here's the download link if you want to check it out. http://store.steampowered.com/steamos/buildyourown A boy stuck in a mans body
bandit721 Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Bringing this thread back again...IGN just posted this hands-on impressions of the controller...Doesn't seem like a homerun: http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/01/08/ces-steam-controller-hands-on-impressions
sandman7793 Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Ya the beta is kinda a flop to. Frame rates are half that of Windows. But it's also a beta, guess just have to wait and see what happens. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk A boy stuck in a mans body
