MAME 173 No Nag?

On the MAMEUIFX build I'm getting info screen pop-ups for things like "display isn't 100% accurate" (use galaga as an example). Is there a way to hide those? That's new since 0.171. I do have "skip game informations screen on startup" check in the UI configuration.

Also, does anyone know if high scores got sorted out?

are you using my compiled?

Same thing here with regard to the pop ups, I did change all ini files, maybe a bug,

Hiscore is fixed, you can set it as a plugin under Miscellaneous II in the gui or under  # CORE MISC OPTIONS. (plugin                    hiscore)

depends on your setting you have in your mame.ini

mame 172+later...

directinput and raw are built together but has priority setting overall. but you can disable dinput.

do have joystick set to auto? should be set to none for lightguns...

make sure dual lightguns is unchecked, that opition always breaks the function of lightgun.

theres another setting to make sure but i cant confirm it right now.

Sadly I tried all those options in 172 but it would not work. 171 did however. I guess we will have to see if anyone else has successfully got 2 guns to work post 171

Does Galaga no longer create a hi file with just a quick play&die? Didn't work for me.

A quick fumble and run? You had trouble scoring over 20,000 did you Griff? Lol  :gamer:

You have to enter a name for it to register.

Shinobi and Galage are the only games I have played on 173.

I actually am terrible at Galaga. :)

It used to be where you could just complete a game and it'd create the hi file. Guess I'll actually have to play a game instead of putzing around with HS / RL haha.

Just did some benchmarking on the v173 MAME with the pinkswts rom.  The game was run 3x and exited out at the same place each time.  With the patched mame64, the emulation speed averages 98.77%.  With sevenseal's re-coded mame64 (same end result, but different path to get there), the emulation speed averages 98.78% (statistically the same).  The unpatched mame64 surprisingly averaged out at 98.50% (slower).  I thought it was an error in my stop timing at first, but the delta was .04, which is statistically flat.

Never dropped below 99% with v172.  I think I'm a fan of just sticking with v172 for now.  If you've got an i5 or greater processor at 3ghz or higher, you prob wont drop under 100%.  But I think a lot of people with dedicated MAME legacy PCs for their cabs (like me) may want to rethink v173.  I mean - so now you can play Sushi Bar?  That's the big news?  I'm holding on to what I've already got.

has anyone tried my compiled?

can you tell me if it working right?

I've tried it and that was the version I mentioned before which still had some nag screens (the ones for games with known issues).

I did, and it wasn't working, but just now I tried your build and it's working fine.  Thanks again for your continued builds!

Griff, off the post topic, I know but used to do this when I was a kid.

Wording from another site- On most revisions of Galaga, there's a trick that stops enemies from firing at your ship. In Stage 1, kill all aliens except the two bees in the bottom-left corner. Allow the bees to dive down and shoot at you, while dodging their shots. After around 15 minutes or so, the bees will continue to drop down, but they won't fire. Let them drop down another 5 or 6 times, then kill them. After all this, enemies will not shoot at you for the rest of the game.

I was told to count the passes before killing them, but the number seemed to change as more people used the hack to get high score. Turns every round into a bonus round. Like shooting ducks.

We used to have the greatest time, playing games- grocery stores, gas stations, arcades. Now, pretty much nothing but this.

BTW, cheating is legal to get high score. Don't tell Giga about this.

Finally I can end my decades of shame!

Working with 2 lightguns?

I don't have lightguns and so I cannot test this... sorry. :(

Which 173 diff are people using? Just compiled using the usual and am still getting the game info screens, even though I have the option set in the ini.

I use my own patch. It takes 2 lines of commenting out code to disable the nags without configurability.

I might start doing the same - cheers for the info. The only thing I ever really need is no nag turning off. Especially since hi score is available without patch now.

Galaga is pretty much pattern stuff.... once you master the basic pattern from the first stage it's almost easy
