Launching from SPMC/Kodi

Sorry if this has been asked and is going over old ground but whas the best way (if any) to launch Hyper spin from within SPMC/KODI so that you can launch the indvidiual systems?

Basically im doing my own personal SPMC build for home use, ive got all the TV stuff done, but now id like a menu called Games then with sub menus with the systems (Genesis, Snes, Dreamcast) and then be able to launch them so that it takes me to the games for that system only.  Ive managed it with Rom Collection Browser, but am limited to how it looks once the system opens up and displays the games I have. where as Hyperspin looks a classer and more importantly...flashier lol

If you want to use HyperSpin - you'll need to have a script that closes kodi and then opens hyperspin - and the reverse when hyperspin is closed.

There is an addon for kodi called advanced launcher that will help with this - you had this your little script and it will let you have a button to launch it in kodi.  Trouble is this addon is no longer available - as the author is working on a new version.

In the meantime - kodi provides the internal command - 'SystemExec()' which you can use to launch the HS script from within kodi.

Ive used Arc browser and didn't need any other script.

Just went into Programs within SPMC select Arc Browser and it run.  When I then exited Arc Browser it returned me to SPMC.

But what im looking for is to be able to have the individual systems with SPMC.

With Rom Collection Browser I can simply create Multiple instances of the plugin, and have them named differently ie RomCollectionBrowserGenesis and that will then show up in SPMC.  I then can simply set that up to be just my Genesis games

I come across this a while back.

Guy called sonic fortress. Setup Kodi and Hyperspin on a g-box

I don't think it is an Android G-Box buddy. The description says a HTPC, I think he just calls it the G-BOX. The G-BOX section in HyperSpin looks suspiciously like PC games to me ;)

Any updates?

What do you want to know?

In the Video Thatman posted, I would hazard a guess it's done how I do it on Windows. Change the Kodi skin to something like "Amber". Then use the Advanced Launcher Addon to make a shortcut for the HyperSpin.exe. You can pick any .exe you like, so you can have Chrome/Firefox or Word etc. launched from the Kodi "Home screen". The Amber skin is easy to customise and add your own background images for each section. It's how I setup my Mother's PC so she can use it easily to watch films or open PC software she commonly uses.

On Android (I have the Shield TV), it's easier as you can launch Android apps through Addons> Program Addons. Any apps you want to launch from the Home menu (e.g HyperSpin), set them as favourites. Again using the Amber skin you can set favourites to empty slots in the Homescreen layout.

I've not touched the Rom Collection Browser Addon for a looong time, Kodi was still XBMC back then so I can't comment on using that. For Raspberry Pi users there is the Game Starter Addon, it installs emulation station and/or RetroArch. I've launched games through the Kodi menu using that BUT I think most people would just install Retropie now (as it supports video snaps) and install the Kodi package to switch between Arcade mode and Media Centre.

All the best

Hi -

Thanks for the reply -

I too was trying to get Kodi to launch hyperspin in the way you described it. Having Kodi as the main program and then having a menu item called hyperspin - then using some script to launch hyperspin, put kodi in the background - then when exit hyperspin kodi is back in the main focus.

Advanced launcher use to be what i used but now when i use it - every time i go back into kodi it tells me that it is disabled. then i have to re-enable it etc ... not ideal.

What is the standard way of using hyperspin through Kodi? or ... i guess i should say --- is there a standard way to use hyperspin with kodi.

while i have ya ... ever see this video? how does he get this type of vertical "non-wheel" type look? is that a version of hyperspin or something? I like this view

No worries. Although Kodi is technically Media Centre software, I've used it for a loooong time as a kind of "console dashboard". I don't use builds or wizards, I set everything up myself manually.

I'm sorry to hear you're having problems. I just create a "new launcher" with the addon and then make them a favourite so it can be added to the home menu. I've just fired up my old laptop to test it and it's still working fine...i.e quits HyperSpin and returns to Kodi. I have several launchers setup for various software, Automotive data, Firefox, FS-UAE (an amiga emulator) and so on..they all work just fine. Maybe it's this script you're talking about that's making problems for you?

I saw some of Austin's videos when he was starting out on Youtube...found his tutorials painful to watch if I'm honest. So no, I've not seen that video as I don't follow him. HOWEVER what you are asking for is set in HyperHQ (look in the HyperSpin folder). Click the "Wheel settings" tab, under "Choose wheel" select main menu. Click the "Wheel" tab and adjust "Style" to Vertical.

Thanks again -

What version of Advance Launcher are you using? anywhere i can access that version? mine seems to keep saying plugin is disabled.

Kodi is 17.4, Advanced Launcher is 2.6.1. I might have installed it via a zip file...hard to say as I did it so long ago.

All the best with it

Thanks!

may I ask one last question? Not launcher related.

how does hyperspin scan for the libraries?

it has hundreds of games per emulator but I do t have all those roms.

hiw do I sync the database to what I actually have?

many thanks in advance

There is a database folder which holds the .xml files for each system. Your game roms MUST be named exactly the same as how they're listed in the .xml, all artwork must also match those names as well.

This is the android section but it sounds like you're using a PC. Rocketlauncher can be used to scan your rom folders and show what you have or are missing from the database. It's possible to set HyperSpin to show only the roms you do have. I'd suggest you look for some tutorials, I won't be able to talk you through everything unfortunately..I just don't have the time spare.

All the best with it

Either in HyperHQ on PC or manually in the setting .ini for each named wheel. Turn on rom filter

this will filter the games list to only roms you have.

you need to set the correct extensions also or it will not let you enter the games list (wheel)

LOL I wouldn't worry about it buddy. My friends get confused if I'm showing a video of my HTPC, Shield TV or even a Raspberry Pi. Because Kodi is setup the same on all the "boxes" even sometimes I get confused ;)

thanks for all the help - I got 3 emulators working perfectly and now its just a matter of repeating for all .. i get it now ... wicked program really! this is amazing

Mind if i ask ?

How do i get this look? I found this on Simply Austin's youtube site but cant figure out where to get the artwork for this type of look. The wheel is not curved
and the art work is "boxed" up with nice black backgrounds
I really like that ...

is this some kind of hyperspin skin?
