craiganderson Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Hello. I recently acquired a working Actionmax. I have the 5 "games" in mp4 format. I plan on "burning" them onto a dvd or cd and use that disk to play the system. Any thoughts on what would be the best format for the light guns to work? DVD? leave as mp4?etc or perhaps makes no difference...just wondering thanks craig http://craigandersonthemes.weebly.com/
JoyStickKilla Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 I don't see a laserdisc player reading cds or dvds

I am interested in if there is a different working format that works.

Guest Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 @craiganderson - this machine originally used VHS tapes for the video files. The downloads you have are digital versions of those. That said, you may be able to get away with using a DVD, as the actionmax syncs itself with the video/audio stream coming out of the VHS, and overlays it's UI on top of the video stream. The key here would be to find the necessary cabling to connect the ActionMax to the DVD player. As the DVD player will almost certainly use digital connectors (HDMI etc.) and the ActionMax will be looking for an analogue stream you will likely need some kind of converter box to allow them to work together. You could also of course get a VHS player and record the video stream to it and use the ActionMax as it was intended. You can likely get the original tapes. Interesting problem, please post up your results.
Guest Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 i burned them to a dvd....it works How did you connect the ActionMax to the DVD player?
craiganderson Posted September 5, 2016 Author Posted September 5, 2016 How did you connect the ActionMax to the DVD player? i didnt. from what i understand there is only an "audio" connection from the console to the vcr it is not needed to play the game i think that the only difference is that the gun sound only comes out of my action max console and not from the tv this is just a guess but in know for sure that the games work hope this helps http://craigandersonthemes.weebly.com/

Nice you got it working.

Nice you got it working. i am not 100% sure about my explanation.... but it seems to be working when you read manual ..seems to be just audio that goes through vcr (see link below) https://issuu.com/old-computers/docs/wow_action-max_manual http://craigandersonthemes.weebly.com/
dougan78 Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 That makes sense the video is just for the user and the thing just does stuff based on audio. Neat.
craiganderson Posted September 5, 2016 Author Posted September 5, 2016 here is a video of a guy playing action max using youtube videos http://craigandersonthemes.weebly.com/
JoyStickKilla Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 I was just about to post that. I completely was off on your question and for some reason had daphne in mind about what you were asking. It just works the same way the nintendo zapper works with the white space so it doesn't really matter what you play the video with.

phantasy Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 I had an Action Max back in the day and all the games except the impossible to find Blue Thunder... it was the Booberry cereal equivalent for Action Max. For my fellow fans of Action Max, now in 2016, with things like Ebay/IMDB/Wikipedia it would seem that SOMEONE would have information on the never released 'Fright Night' game. The other games have actor/production credits on IMDB. I find so little about this title. How far did it get? Was anything filmed, was it to be a perhaps cost saving edit of film footage from the Chris Sarandon film? There wouldn't be much to shoot at if it was movie footage. Maybe this title got as far as two guys in a pitch room saying "Let's make a Fright Night game...nevermind"? Anyone remember if the trailers for the other games on each tape contained a trailer for it? I seem to remember only knowing about Blue Thunder from the small trailer.

If there is something for Fright Night on actionmax it has never leaked. Nothing has ever shown up about this.
