Hello All!

I have been "gifted" with the privilege of getting the bezel artwork better organized and to setup the 'Approval' process for this artwork. We (some of the devs and I) have come up with the following.

Naming convention:

Quoted from Bleasby: http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?26919-New-Bezel-Media&p=270851&viewfull=1#post270851

OK, the bezel naming convention is this:

HLMediaName - UniqueTitle (Author)

Example:

Bezel - Original Indigo (manson976).png

If the bezel is made for multiple screens (by now this is only supported on the Sega Pico and VBALink emulators) the name convention is this:

HLMediaName [#S] - UniqueTitle (Author)

Example

Bezel [3S] - Original Indigo (manson976).png

The 3S means that the bezel will only be loaded if the module asks for a specific 3 screens bezel. This bezel will not be used while playing the emu only using one screen.

You can fill the description with whatever you want, however it is recommended to include the screen ratio best suited to your bezel screen when this is the case.

Example:

Bezel - 16:9 side bars (Noshgar)

Because you cannot use a colon in the name, we will substitute an x.

In addition to the above, if there is more than one bezel with the same description by the same author, please add a number after the description.

Example:

Bezel - 16x9 side bars 01 (Noshgar)

Bezel - 16x9 side bars 02 (Noshgar)

etc.

As per the bezel module requirements, there should be an accompanying bezel.ini file and optional background.png named the same.

There is a new directory on the FTP for these files.

Upload Here/_HyperLaunch Media/Bezels

Inside this folder are three additional folders.

/Approved
/Submissions Final
/Submissions Open

Please upload submitted files to the Submissions Open folder. The other two are for use during the approval process.

Repeat: Do not upload into any other folders. Do not move any files into any folders other than the Submissions Open folder.

The approval process will be a little different because bezel art is module dependent. Not every module supports it and not every module will. But approved art will only be approved if working from within an official un-edited module.

The guidelines are also on the HyperSpin Project Forum here: http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?28342-HL-Bezels-Submission-guidelines

The naming convention is a little different here, so be sure and give it a unique name as to not over write any other files.

So, please upload your bezels and post here with the details.

I look forward to seeing and testing them.

Thank you all,

Ron Fancella

To further clarify.

As quoted by Bleasby:

alex and styphelus

the idea is just to have a centralized repository for bezel media.

This is necessary for distributing all bezels in one package, add them to an official release or distribute them in a way like everything else is done for HyperSync.

This is not possible if all bezels are distributed on a huge number of different user folders.

Rfancella kindly offered himself to have the burden of organizing these things.

You can keep doing everything as you are doing until now, have your posts, your ftp folder,.... but for the community advantage, we just as to anyone that creates bezels when releasing them, just copy the bezel image and the ini file to the submissions folder.

After that, we will do a little post processing just to make sure everything is named accordingly and working nicely to eventually distribute your work for all HS lovers, just as every other piece of HS artwork is distributed.

The idea is not complicate. Just copy your bezels to the submissions folder and if possible follow the naming convention so your bezels do not overwrite other user bezels.

couple of questions.

1- so my bezels should be renamed to: Bezel - 169 side bars (AlexDC22).png? i ask cus i cant use the ":" for the 16:9 and my bezels aint just a side bars.

2- how will all of them look in the file structure? you have an example? like for example, are all double dragon bezels be inside the same folder?

3- my neo geo is a whole set, are you going to split it up? dont see a need to as it is a set.

4- so when submitting bezels you have to basically double post...eample for me...ill post it here and on my thread for my project?

that is all for now xD

I will probably use 16x9 as it is easier to read.

2- how will all of them look in the file structure? you have an example? like for example, are all double dragon bezels be inside the same folder?

If you have multiple bezel artwork for the same system/rom it will be like this:

Bezel - 16x9 {description}1 (AlexDC22).png & Bezel - 16x9 {description}1 (AlexDC22).ini

Bezel - 16x9 {description}2 (AlexDC22).png & Bezel - 16x9 {description}2 (AlexDC22).ini

All of which are in the 16x9/Bezels/MAME/3countb folder.

3- my neo geo is a whole set, are you going to split it up? dont see a need to as it is a set.

They appear to all be in the same aspect ratio. They will be merged with any others that are submitted, but will still have your name attached to all the files. I hope I am understanding your question. If not, please elaborate.

4- so when submitting bezels you have to basically double post...eample for me...ill post it here and on my thread for my project?

that is all for now xD

I plan on monitoring your thread as well as the TTX thread. But please do upload your submissions into the new FTP folder (Upload Here/_HyperLaunch Media/Bezels/Submissions Open). I will update as to the entire folder structure soon. I am hoping all new projects will post here for now.

Thank you AlexDC22, for your questions. This is my first gig here on this fourm, so I'm feeling my way around. I am open to suggestions and comments by all!

Thanks,

Ron

I will probably use 16x9 as it is easier to read.

so you will renamed them as people submit them? just want to be clear.

All of which are in the 16x9/Bezels/MAME/3countb folder.

i actually meant for multiple creators...example : will my 3countb bezel be in the same folder as rons 3countb bezel?

it imho ...MAME\Author\3countb\bezel 16x9 autor.png and so on

They appear to all be in the same aspect ratio. They will be merged with any others that are submitted, but will still have your name attached to all the files. I hope I am understanding your question. If not, please elaborate.

I actually dont like this idea at all...i will be removing my set and putting a download link on the page so people can download if they want...is a complete set of of equal likeness and not just different ones.

if they had a download section for bezels this would be a minted set.

I plan on monitoring your thread as well as the TTX thread. But please do upload your submissions into the new FTP folder (Upload Here/_HyperLaunch Media/Bezels/Submissions Open). I will update as to the entire folder structure soon. I am hoping all new projects will post here for now.

if i am to understand you correctly...i am to just post here now for my project and not on mine?

if thats the case....again i must disagree again....i want all my work on my own thread...i can post here and let you know when i uploaded more..but i will not just abandon my project thread...thats where i can keep everything organized for my project.

i am sorry but most of this seems to overcomplicate things instead of simplifying them imho.

ill be on in about an hour if you want to chat about this...on my phone and dont have chat.

Ron has put his hand up for a pretty massive task. I was surprised by the huge number of bezels already on the FTP in random peoples folders. Having them in one huge collection will be kinda cool. And if these files could eventually be distributed through HyperSync imagine how easy it would be. :)

Thank you Bleasby. Alex and I where just IM'ing and I was trying to explain exactly what you said above.

Thanks Bleasby. That is a proper explanation. Rfancella could have done the same instead of just start making demands and upsetting everyone.

I do apologize if anything I posted seemed like a demand. I have no intention on moving any one's art. And this is entirely voluntary for all. The intent is to have one repository, named and formatted alike, for all to see.

I welcome anyone to upload media into the "/Upload Here/_HyperLaunch Media/Bezels/Submissions Open/" FTP folder at your leisure. Please include your name and files or directory name in a post here (or PM to me), so I know who to give credit to in the file name. I also may have some questions about the artwork and need to know who to ask.

Just a quick update.

The move/re-name process has started. There are now over 200 bezel files in the Submissions Final folder on the FTP. Including most of the art from Alex, Unknown, DamnedRegistrations & Jaysaugus. On deck is Nosh. :D Thank you to all who have contributed so far!

They are properly named and placed in the correct folders for the systems they apply to.

The next step for these Final bezels is to test them all. They will only be moved to the Approved folder if they work in a currently supported official module.

Thank you,

Ron
