zerojay Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Haven't tried this myself yet, but it looks like it might be a better alternative to Bluestacks: http://www.andyroid.net/
Polemicist Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 You got flagged as spam. That's pretty funny. Now just write a quick module up for this emulator.
zerojay Posted June 20, 2014 Author Posted June 20, 2014 It's just another VM running under VirtualBox. Not worthwhile.
fishler Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 i'm one of the co-founders of andy, and belive me it's not just another VM running virtual box, there is a team of engineers working on this for more than a year. Bluestacks is using something called QEMU while we decided do use virtualization hence the use of the oracle VM. Andy has better graphic support the BS + it's much faster + we aren't stuck on android version 4 like BS, we also have keyboard support, apk integration from desktop and allot of other cool features. So i can't agree with you that it is just another VM, try it. Yossi.

So i can't agree with you that it is just another VM, try it. Yossi. I did exactly that. I sat down and tried it. And I discovered exactly what I said, just another VM running in VirtualBox that has all the same issues that BS has. If it has any better graphic support, I sure couldn't see it anywhere. All the same games that wouldn't work in BS didn't work with Andy. That said, Andy was better if you were just looking for a version of Android to run on your PC. It's more slick, closer to a standard Google experience, etc... The real issue, for our purposes, is that there's no way to just directly launch an APK like you can with BS to my knowledge.
brolly Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 I never tried Andy, but Genymotion is what I use for Android development and beats the hell out of Bluestacks. It also uses virtualization which imo is definitely the way to go, seems Andy went the same path as they both run under virtualbox. Never really looked into integrating it with HL though.

Bluestacks uninstalled and Genymotion installed. Thanks Brolly.
zerojay Posted July 12, 2014 Author Posted July 12, 2014 Genymotion's the same as Andy. Also no way to directly launch an apk without using Bluestacks so...
Polemicist Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 I don't play android games on a PC that's what my tablet and phones are for. I like to fiddle with android apps on my PC.
marxkemp Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 A little off topic but is it cool for bragging rights to integrate bluestacks into my hyperspin setup (80 systems and counting)?
brolly Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 Genymotion's the same as Andy. Also no way to directly launch an apk without using Bluestacks so... The same? I doubt they are the same as they are 2 completely different emulators from different teams. If by the same you mean they both use virtualization then yeah they are the same. About Bluestacks being better than Genymotion, see if any real Android developer uses Bluestacks for testing their applications And you can surely launch an apk directly from Genymotion, that's exactly what it does when you are testing your android applications, might be a bit trickier than Bluestacks as it needs to be done through ADB I think, but definitely possible. But like I said I never really looked into it as Eclipse does all the work for me and I only use it for development purposes. Like Polemicist I'm not particularly interested on playing Android games on my PC.
zerojay Posted July 12, 2014 Author Posted July 12, 2014 Yeah, I'm not talking about anything having to do with development, I'm talking purely about integrating Android games into Hyperspin here.
brolly Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 I know, just stated development since Genymotion is way better (and a hell lot faster) than Bluestack. And I'm saying it's possible to run apk files directly through ADB so it can also be integrated with HyperLaunch even if might be a bit more challenging.
kyoken Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 Can you play big games?, like batman/spiderman games? Nvidia tegra games too?
zerojay Posted July 12, 2014 Author Posted July 12, 2014 In my experience, the same games that don't work in Bluestacks don't work in Genymotion or Andy.
brolly Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 Many ARM based games won't run on any emulator. Genymotion had ARM support, but was removed due to licensing issues a while back. You can still install ARM translation on Genymotion even if it's no longer supported which should make several games work, but definitely not all of them. I see Andy has ARM support, not sure to what extent though.
zerojay Posted July 12, 2014 Author Posted July 12, 2014 Unfortunately, even with removed ARM support package, I couldn't get anything to work that didn't already work although I'm all ears if someone finds some or has a list.
zerojay Posted July 13, 2014 Author Posted July 13, 2014 It's been a while since I last tried to play some games on Android but one I definitely remember was Grand Theft Auto San Andreas.
brolly Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 I doubt many of those big company games will currently work on any emulator. But honestly, if I was going to add Android to my setup I'd only add Android exclusive games because games like those you can play them on other systems, even natively on PC in many cases.
kyoken Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 How can i play with 360 gamepad, or keyboard? I cant play any arcade game
zerojay Posted July 13, 2014 Author Posted July 13, 2014 Bluestacks allows you to map tilts, swipes, button presses and more to any gamepad. (I don't think Genymotion or Andy have anything like it.) To make it easier to make the mappings, you can look up the Aurora key mapper. Also, use this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565644
