ziggy Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Hi all, I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card and just wondered if anyone had any suggestions of any good cards? I'm expanding my cabinet to include full ps1, ps2, wii and Dreamcast support so want something capable of running these. Thanks for any advice. Custom built full cabinet: 64bit Windows 7, i7 - 4790, 8GB RAM, GTX 760 Graphics, 24" Widescreen, Customised X-Arcade tankstick, Aimtrak light gun.
gigapig Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Is your GTX660 not cutting it? I'm assuming you've tested Those emulators. I would have suggested a GTX 760 but it doesn't sound that much of an upgrade. I currently have a MSI GTX770 Lightening, which runs everything fine at 1080.
ziggy Posted May 19, 2014 Author Posted May 19, 2014 Sorry forgot to update my signature. I dropped my monitor on my board, killing my GTX660. Using an old 9600GT at the moment but looking to upgrade before finalising my cabinet. Just wondered what other people were using. Thanks for the advice. I'll had a look at that one now. Mines in my gaming rig, so it plays modern PC games also. A 760 might be overkill if it's going in a cab, I think people here are using the 750Ti. All depends on your budget.
ziggy Posted May 19, 2014 Author Posted May 19, 2014 Yeah I have two 360 gamepads hooked up to my cab so I can play modern PC games too. The 760 is a beast but I might just get another 660 and save £50. Again thanks for the advice. SIMPLYAUSTIN Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 To be honest I built my mate a rig with a i5 and a 650 in it. It had no problem at all with Dolphin and PCX2. I picked that up for 32 of the finest UK pounds which was a bargain! I use a 570, I can max out the Dolphin and PCSX2. Those are fairly cheap now and can be picked up no problem. I think depending on the Emu depends on if the GPU or the CPU counts. Simply Austin's YouTube
ziggy Posted May 20, 2014 Author Posted May 20, 2014 Cool, do you know if it can handle modern fighting games like Injustice gods among us at a decent rate? If so thing i might be over doing things with GTX 660. andyco40 Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 I have a gtx 650ti in mine and every thing runs just fine.
dark13 Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Uhm... i'll tell you the truth, i have a gtx660 but i never liked that much this gpu. A 660TI was better but had an orrible price tag... i didn't milk out extra cash for 660TI but i would have paid extra cash for a 760 (660ti was 250-260€ while 760 is 220-230€, i paid 660 175€). Much depends from price but, at last here in italy, older videocards does not drop so much in terms of price... @andy Is it a 650TI boost? That is basically a 660gtx There's even a 660 OEM that falls in the middle of 660-660TI in terms of performance. ziggy Posted May 21, 2014 Author Posted May 21, 2014 Ok thanks for the help. I want to be able to play modern fighting games like Injustice as well as emulators so think it's worth the extra to get a decent card. BladeZX Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 I use a GTX660 in my bartop (http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121660) Runs everything so far HyperPin Manager | HyperSpin Manager | HyperSpin Checker | HyperSpin Renamer ASRock Z77 Extreme4 MB | Core i5 3570K | Coolermaster Hyper212 EVO CPU cooler | 16GB RAM | OCZ Vertex 4 128Gb SSD (Windows 8) | OCZ Vertex 4 256Gb SSD (HS and all emulators and media) | Gigabyte GTX670 2Gb video card | 27" ASUS LED monitor | 650W Corsair PSU
ziggy Posted May 21, 2014 Author Posted May 21, 2014 Anyone know if the GXT 750 ti is any good? I can get one from my parts supplier dirt cheap. Custom built full cabinet: 64bit Windows 7, i7 - 4790, 8GB RAM, GTX 760 Graphics, 24" Widescreen, Customised X-Arcade tankstick, Aimtrak light gun.
dark13 Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 It is worst than a gtx660 http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-750-ti-review,3750-6.html . A bit sad as it seems that the middle-tier gpu did not improve so much with current generation. If a gtx760 is on par with a 670 you'd expect a 750 ti to be on par with a 660... SIMPLYAUSTIN Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 @Ziggy- From my experience only. You have to think about if you want this card mostly for hyperspin, mostly PC gaming or for price. Many of the EMulators are blt around older cards and many do not like to play with many of the high end current gen cards without many issues. Although to be honest Im not a very good hyerspinner anyways so it may just be me being crap at this. So in this case I would get a high end 500 series or 600 series. If you want great PC gaming, you want the best there is, maybe a couple of Titans and z290's hehe. Nah but you do want to get high end if you play games like BF4 etc. 570 Minimum for smooth high configed graphics. Point to note, if you want to play the new Injustice you need a SSD, good ram and GPU. That thing is bugged like hell and does not like to play nice Again, thats just me.... everyone else could have dif experiences. Simply Austin's YouTube
ziggy Posted May 22, 2014 Author Posted May 22, 2014 Well i bit the bullet and went for http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/GTX760DC2OC2GD5/ Got it through work for £140. Should be enough for what i need. Didn't know Injustice was so broken. Probably avoid that then. Do you know if it'd run the newer Mortal Kombat ok? That will run pretty much everything at 1080, you may have to turn some settings down for Crysis 3? But a good choice.
ziggy Posted May 22, 2014 Author Posted May 22, 2014 Thanks. My cab is nearly complete. I'd love to get a stretched lcd screen for the marquee next. Custom built full cabinet: 64bit Windows 7, i7 - 4790, 8GB RAM, GTX 760 Graphics, 24" Widescreen, Customised X-Arcade tankstick, Aimtrak light gun.
dark13 Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Mortal kombat (great game, BTW, basically the only MK i really enjoyed) runs fine on my q6600 660gtx. With a 760 and a core i you should not have problems even at 1080p. The graphic engine, anyway, is seriously broken: if you rig cannot stay 60fps it does not drop frames, it simply slow down like grid2... gtx760 is a great compromise in terms of cost/performance. ATI cards does have better price/performance ratio BUT nvidia still has better compatibility and better driver support. SIMPLYAUSTIN Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Yeah Im nVidia fanboy. They may be more expensive, but I think you pay for that in reliable, performance and confidence. Or maybe Im still feeling ass raped after my 1950 radeon from 10 years ago burnt out on me after 2 months. I know they have moved on... but my cheeks are still sore I never did get to complete Tom Clancy Las Vegas :'( I wouldnt say Injustice is that bugged... its just that it runs like a rapist with one leg. A bad port I think, as you fight its fine and runs like a dream. Its the cutscenes inbetween that mess up. I dont know if you have played it but they go on.... FOREVER!! The story is kind of cool, but you cannot get into it as they lag like crap. I think the game loads in the background and even on a i7, 30+ gig or ram on a SSD it still makes me want to skip them. In its defense, my copy was a Piratebay special which has most prob been patched by now.... but trust me.. it was bad! As for MKK... wow...great game and works very well on the wheel. Very well made, great graphics, yet still keeps its feel from back in the day. A 760 will eat it for breakfast Simply Austin's YouTube
dark13 Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Uhm... I didn't try injustice but if it's like MKK cutscenes are actually movie and if they did like in MK they aren't 1080p but something like 720p 30 fps. If it's a "repack" quality can obviously be even worse (or maybe there's some codec issue on your rig) Automatizing infopanels creation from .csv files for HTPCs themes (look at infopanel tutorial.zip on the ftp in dark13 folder) PNGs to SWFs automatized flash scripts Hyperspin Wheelset automatized template (photoshop's variables + batch) Aeon nox 4.13 W.I.P. hyperspin skin
