SupraKarma Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 I've been doing a lot of work on PS2 logos lately, and I'm only missing 159 Euro games. Current source artwork is from the HS FTP server, the launchbox games database, and work that I've done. Obviously, there were a lot of garbage logos to start out with, but I went through and either improved or replaced all of the D grade stuff. What's left is C grade or better. Most of it (90%) is B grade or better. I have not 'fact checked' logos for authenticity completely however, because this database is huge, and that alone is a monumental task. The problem here is two fold. First, there's a serious lack of quality scans. You know what they say, you can't polish a turd. So then the only option is to either 'do the best you can,' or attempt to redraw it. Which brings us to the second problem - most people, including people with enough skill to make 'B grade' logos, don't have the skill to redraw a logo. There's only a handful of people in this community that can do that. So what I'm getting at here is, this set has been sitting here unfinished for a long time. I don't think it's ever going to get finished, by 'official' HyperSpin standards. But, most of us don't need ultra hi def logos. Most of us are satisfied with 'B' grade logos. Especially if you're using Launchbox, where the logos are super tiny anyways. You can't even see the imperfections, unless it's really awful to begin with. I want to finish this set completely, just so that we have 'something.' This doesn't mean I want to fill the gaps with trash artwork, I want to be clear that 'D' grade artwork is still very much unacceptable. It just means that, sometimes 'good enough' is good enough. So, the purpose of this thread is: 1. Fill in the gaps 2. Improve quality wherever possible on 'C' grade logos, without striving for perfection. I'm kind of burnt out on this, but I'll keep going IF I can get some support. I'm just trying to gauge interest here, to see if anyone else is on the same page as me. If so, feel free to join the discussion. Here's a few examples of logos I have done. Keep in mind my objectives here, before you criticize the quality. I consider it 'acceptable.'

Some of the logos I had were decent quality, but had the wrong colors, or perhaps were missing a subtitle. That's a no go for me. Take the time to cut the whole thing, or don't even bother. Others had quality issues, or were the wrong logo. I will try to keep this list updated. 32assassin Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 a few years a go we had a similar thing going for the US tittles if you want to combine efforts I got the missing list down to less then 30 - each logo needs to be 100% match to the logo on the box, I replaced images that where added from other systems. - noticeably bad quality images where replaced. this is what still needs to be done. https://mega.nz/folder/498R1LII#5fXIh0Q2R-676uIGLPbkkQ

Granted there's some garbage in there for sure, but look at your 'Dynasty Tactics 2' logo, and then the source art that I resized to 400x175-ish size (without bothering to cut it). Outside of the colors being more vibrant in your source art (that we can adjust anyways), the quality is virtually identical. And since the logos all end up being 400x175 anyways, what's the point? I'm not saying it wouldn't be nice to have a complete set of ultra hi def logos, but in this particular case, this is exactly what I'm talking about in my first post. 'Good enough' is good enough, why not move on to some of the other missings instead? The 3rd pic is the same logo after some color adjustment.

Some of the logos are wrong (as you mentioned), and some of them are still below 'passable' quality though. I'll make a new list. I also just noticed a few existing garbage Euro logos in my own collection that I missed, thought I got 'em all.
32assassin Posted April 10, 2020 Posted April 10, 2020 @SupraKarma I"m using the low quality images on my current set up, the only wheels I did not use are from the "image does not match the box" folder. the low quality wheels look noticeably bad compared to the rest of the wheels I have. if the low quality wheels are easy to cut, I make new ones images like Life Line (USA) might not get upgraded an easy to cut example.
