keltoigael
I am having a issue with ePSXe and Daemon Tools Lite I have never had in the past. It takes sometimes 1-2 minutes for cue/bin format to load in the SCSI virtual drive. No other system is having this issue. SSF loads lighting quick for example. My previous build of Hyperspin did not have this issue and I am using all the same hardware as before as well as the same OS Win7 64. The roms are extracted. I disabled DT in HyperlaunchHQ and tested directly loading through the emulator and it still takes the same amount of time. So is it perhaps a issue with the module? I also tested this in ePSXe 180 and 190 thinking maybe 190 was bugged. No dice.
keltoigael
Scratch that it's a issue with Daemon Tools, I am loading directly through the emulator and it takes the same amount of time. I swapped rom sets to make sure it wasn't them, same amount of loading time. It used to be instant before. I dont understand where this lag is coming from. keltoigael
So roughly it is taking 30+ seconds from hyperlaunch to espxe to launch the rom. Completely clueless. I have tried every trick I know and it is the only disk based system giving me this issue.
gigapig
I preferred PCSXR, no need for DT Lite as the images go straight to the emulator, but I now use RetroArch which makes the games look fantastic. What your experiencing is a known issue, djvj put together an updated module that fixes it I think. www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?26753-ePSXe-Module/page6
Aorin
I had some issues this year with epsxe too, I switched to PCSXR to load the iso directly, without Daemon tools and it runs great, it ran all games I tried so far, it runs PBP also (compressed ISO), for me it's a great emulator without any issues in HS. You could try it, just a suggestion.

Only reason I was using epsxe was to get a higher res on the 3d but leave the 2d pixels alone. Not a fan of 2d smoothing.

DamnedRegistrations
Stretched aspect ratio and blurry bilinear filtering through a buggy, outdated, inaccurate emulator is " much better"? lol no. ePSXe needs to be forgotten, its days are over. This is how your game should look, not blurry and stretched.
keltoigael
I actually don't use the linear filter and use the nearest instead to keep the pixelated look. I do like some scan lines through. Yeah I have pretty much completely removed epsxe and went full retroarch mednafen core. Keep the classic look with some nice scanline emulation. Can't wait to able to use CRT_Royale again with the next RA update.
leostrife
Personally I hate the pixelated look, I prefer to blur on the aspect, is optional, as the widescreen hacks are very buggy. Emulator with high fidelity only Xebra, but like to play with increased internal resolution to remove jagged edges ... Depends on the taste of each ... gigapig
Good to see different opinions. If RetroArch works with most if not all games, then it really saves a lot of time messing with the boat load settings offered up by the alternative emulators. Yeah, gotta use various emulators because of compatibility with games that is not total, and the lack Hyperspin a custom configuration of plugins for each game in ePSXe and PCSXR ... Some consoles like the Sega Genesis gets tricky run without NTSC plugin, since without it the colors of the games are shown incorrectly.
DamnedRegistrations
Late reply but various emulators are not needed with PS1. There are currently no games I've tried that do not run in Mednafen or RetroArch using Medna core. I recorded the last couple hundred missing PS1 videos for Emumovies which included many really obscure titles, and had no glitches at all. That is due to accuracy, something you won't get with plugin-based emulators. Even popular games like Chrono Cross have major audio issues in ePSXe regardless of audio plugin. Try looking at a bunch of the older minted PS1 videos at Emumovies and look at how glitchy some of them are, that's from them using crappy ePSXe to record. I'll have to redo those some day. Xebra also kind of sucks. Even Castlevania: SoTN freezes in it when jumping in and out of the menu. Pretty ridiculous. That would be like having an NES emulator that can't play Super Mario Bros without crashing.

That would be like having an NES emulator that can't play Super Mario Bros without crashing. I dropped epsxe all together. It's way to wonky and relies too heavily on plugins. When I made the switch over to retroarch everything worked great. Only thing I would like to do is up the internal res x2 to get a little but smoother 3d visuals but the classic over all pixel look. The RA forums say's it's coming someday in the future. When I saw that sweet PSX bios screen and that unforgettable chime I nearly did a naked back flip off my couch. PSX still has the best bios screen.
DamnedRegistrations
A new version of Mednafen is out: http://forum.fobby.net/index.php?t=msg&th=1124&start=0& It's only listed as unstable because I don't think old memory card and save states are compatible. I'm using it now without issues, played Saga Frontier 2 for a while. All the changes are in the notes so I'd say it's definitely worth updating. I'm glad he raised the default PS1 volume by 3.5db, really makes a difference. If you're intent on sticking with RetroArch, then you'll have to wait on a libretro update.
