The HyperSpin 2 early access beta is here!

We’re starting the first public testing phase with Platinum Members to keep the scope manageable while we test the current feature set and begin to add more. In the future, we’ll provide a version for basic members as well.  On behalf of the entire HyperSpin team, we look forward to another exciting adventure with our community.

All systems go, except for Spectrum and C64 Keyboards

Sorry, I should've been more specific. It's in the recently released HL open beta.

Totally bizarre or a bug or me, but in the twenty minutes I've been trying to find it, it appeared once. I then swapped out the WinVICE.ini for yours and it disappeared again.

I assume it's meant to be here? I'm up to date BTW.

Edit: can't currently upload the screen pic. It was Edit global Module settings>Rom Settings.

Hey Gig -

Maybe double check that your AHK and ISD for WinVICE are both up to date. There was typo in the ISD that was recently corrected. So, if you didn't pull from GIT after the beta launch, you may not have the latest.

Also, you mentioned you replaced your WinVICE.ini. You meant Commodore64.ini, right? Just making sure.

You should see that DefaultJoyPort setting referenced in all three files (ahk, isd and ini).

I have the 2.0.4 module.

I worked it out eventually, after HLHQ was complaining. I was clicking the "Edit Global Module Settings" instead of the "System Specific" settings.

Thank you Brian. :)

Hi Guys. I'm a bit late. Work had me basically dungeoned for the last week.

So, as pointed out early. I'm likely stuck with buttons Y and N for the c64 games as they all come pre-loaded with traininers. I don't currently have Y used but N is there. I also don't have an enter key which many of the games require.

Is the preferred method to use 2 different emulators or the hyperspin "swap"?

Posted
I would also add just because a game uses port 2 it may require a kb for addotional inputs. ;)

I have also noticed this too. Some of the games require initials to be typed in. I don't really see a way around this.

For the keyboard games that you listed (Thank you for seperating these!) How would we know which keys are used for the game so that maybe, we could map to an existing profile?

Aight. Post hard drive crash and rebuild. I'm now starting this again. Luckily I had a backup.

1)So, taking the list of joystick1 and joystick2 games, will I have to run separate versions of the emulator? How do you tell the game to load with Joy1 as primary or joy2?

2) I'm using WinVice, and I have the joysticks mapped to the correct player. However, is there really only 1 joystick button?

3) I have an iPAC which does all the mapping, is there still a need for xpadder?

Most have 2 buttons but they were probably for left or right handers.

Yep. This was my favourite for the Amiga but was also used on the 64.

Had the Quickshot but it was flimsy and didn't last.

This I still have, it's well built.

Some games used additional keyboard keys, someone mentioned on another thread? that Commando used the space bar to through a grenade.

Hey Giga. The 3rd one looks super retro :)

Curious, as the previous commodore64.ini was posted with the games that require the joystick2. I'm at a loss for where to put that file and also do I just set up Winvice with "enable joystick" and properly configure them to match my keyboard mapping from ipac then I should be good right?

Not sure if anyone is still monitoring this thread but is there a working method/list for the Spectrum system? The games seem to be all over the place for button mappings.

Yes I am monitoring, and saved the link for this thread to a doc last night.

I was working on Amiga and CD32 controls and graphics/sound settings.

Next job will be to do the C64 ini with the control ports set which WahooBrian supplied, but I'm not sure it's going to work with dougan's set.

I'm not good with generating lists and xml's, so there will be a steep learning curve.

I'll also look into Spectrum after that, but first I need to finish checking all the Amiga Demos work which myself Ron and Sic have been working on.

All good fun.

Let me look at 64.ini. most the stuff should be named properly. If not i can do a little renaming. :) it will be a couple of weeks though before i take a look.

I looked at it briefly. There are about 169 games that I either added myself or need to be renamed. Will dig deeper in a couple weeks however the 64.ini wont have my adds so one would need to add those manually to the commodore64.ini

I'm still trying to figure out how to add the joystick = 2 into the comoddoreo64.ini. Is that a completely manual thing for each game?

I am thoroughly confused now Giga :)

wahooBrian posted a file in his FTP folder that is 364k in size that only has joystick 2. So this sizing is different.

Also, i see descrapancies in the files.

The first one is item #1

From wahoobrian

[747 (USA)]

DefaultJoyPort = 2

From Giga's note

[720 (USA)]

DefaultJoyPort=1

Or have I completed hosed this all up (likely the case :)

I've uploaded the 3 text files from Dougan and the 2 ini's I have to my folder.

I'm currently trying to fill in the missing info in dougans xml. Is this wasted effort? A lot of work is being done on c64 right now are we all going in different directions?

Let me try to clear this up. The ini in my FTP is the one that matches the not-yet-released database that was created as part of the HyperSpin Project. So, my ini will have a lot of entries for games that Dougan hasn't completed the artwork for yet. I put it out there so you guys could just drop it in and be able to play the games that need the settings in order to set the Joyport correctly, but just realize that there are entries in there that are not part of dougan's completed work yet.

The reason my ini only has settings for DefaultJoyPort = 2 is because DefaultJoyPort = 1 is the default in the WinVICE module. So, there is no reason to have an entry for a game in the ini that is setting the same value as the default. As for the discrepencies, you are comparing two different games, 720 (USA) and 747 (USA). :)

Well, obviously everyone can do what they want, but just know that an updated C64 database has already been completed with over 8000 games, with all the values filled in. What needs done for C64 is artwork, or even screenshots/videos that can be displayed via the theme. Anyone that wants to help out dougan can pm myself or brolly. Considering that dougan has already knocked out wheels and artwork for about 25% of those games in a couple months time is stunning. More people would get this wrapped up in no time...

Hope this helps. Long live the C64! Gotta go play Jumpman now....

I'm using Dougans set so I took the info from his post here.

I couldn't obviously use WahooBrians C64 ini because I don't know if the naming is the same, I checked for a random game across both ini (Bath Time) and it's not in Wahoo's ini.

Well, the names should match I believe... And remember, just because a game isn't in my ini, doesn't mean its not in the database. It just means it doesn't use any non-default settings. The ini will not have an entry for each and every game. Well, it certainly doesn't need to.... Hope this makes sense.

It sure does, thank you. And your right they do match.

Is it possible that the Joy port info can be taken from something like GameBase? I did play around with that briefly over the weekend, as I think someone has mentioned it before.

The default joyport info was pulled from Gamebase. I actually wrote a program to read the Gamebase DB and use that data to create/populate much of the C64 database and the associated ini. :)

The only ones that wont match are the ones i added like bath time or the list of 169 i mentioned earlier. Some are my mistake. Some are ones i added manually. Some are from when damnedregistrations helped a while back. My goal was to have something compatible with the new database. Thanks to brolly and wahoobrian we have that. What we need now is more artwork plain and simple. Cheers!
