rburggraf Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 Can I leave my PlayStation 2 games as ISO's in 7z or do I need to extract them
JoeC3109 Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 You can leave them in 7z's, make sure to enable 7z support in HLHQ, and to include 7z as a rom extension for your emulator
gigapig Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 Trouble is they can take forever to extract, unless you've shrunk them.
gigapig Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 worth the wait Yeah, make a brew, shag the misses and then play the game. I think i clocked God of War at 5 to 8 minutes.
SIMPLYAUSTIN Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 Jeeez that is bad. Mine aint aint like that? Hmmmmm... I only have to wait around a min maybe 2 max?? Simply Austin's YouTube
Awakened Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 Or you can convert your PS2 ISOs to .gz compressed files, which you can load directly in nightly versions of PCSX2, as described here: http://forums.pcsx2.net/Thread-New-ISO-compression-help-testingYou just have to add .gz to the supported extensions list in the HL module. Then wait a bit on launching each game the first time, as PCSX2 has to generate an index file. After that, they'll launch just as fast as uncompressed ISOs
Aorin Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 Awakened's method can be the best for those who prefer not waiting every time you start a game, I use Gzipped Ps2 Isos and as he said, it only creates an index file the first time you run that given game, then the games will start without loading. So you have a compressed ISO that sometimes saves you more than 1 or even 3 GB without waiting, but it's up to you, just my 50 cents. Aorin

Thanks for the info. How long does it take to load the game the first time? I'm reading one minute on internet, is it true? Can I generate index files for many games in 'batch mode'? Thanks.
Aorin Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 It takes a minute or two, it depends on the game size. But the point is that it only needs this first time you run that game, I let them hidden so they don't mix with the isos. I really don't know if there's a way to create these indexes files all at once. If you choose this way, think this: If you'd let them 7zipped you'd wait them to decompress every time, but Gzipped only once, so, even if no batch exist for this, the next time you run that game it will open immediately. Well, that's my thoughts. Aorin

oldhag270 Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Awakened , how would one go about adding it the module , any help would be appreciated . Thank you .
ChrisKant Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 does the gzip Files no Speed Issues with the Games - i.e. for the Games with heavy streamings like GTA and so on?
potts43 Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 I can't get this to run smoothly. On Tekken the sound is awful-isos
ChrisKant Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 I can't get this to run smoothly. On Tekken the sound is awful-isos that sounds not so good. maybe I should not start with the gzip action on my set
justice999 Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 The .iso was smooth? Maybe its PCSX2 problem...
potts43 Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Sorry to confuse you guys-my collection are zipped ISO. They can take a while to unpack but I'm struggling with lag.
ChrisKant Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 when you have zipped isos...then the Lag couldn't depend on the zip package itself... or can you start directly an zipped iso through pscx2?
Awakened Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Awakened , how would one go about adding it the module , any help would be appreciated . Thank you . I edited my previous post in this thread to correctly link to my post explaining how to do that (here). I guess forum link formatting changed with the new forums.
oldhag270 Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Thank you so much got it straightened out works like a charm .
