The HyperSpin 2 beta is here!

We’re starting the first public testing phase with Platinum Members to keep the scope manageable while we test the current feature set and begin to add more. In the future, we’ll provide a version for basic members as well.  On behalf of the entire HyperSpin team, we look forward to another exciting adventure with our community.

Maximus arcade may not be dead after all

A post from arcade controls yesterday a guy said he got his code emailed to him after payment guess maximus arcade is still alive.

I was a maximus user many years ago. But since discovered hyperspin there is no going back, I just hope hyperspin is supported for many more years to come and won't suffer same fate as maximus arcade

I hope so too. When I first got into this hobby, I had Maximus for a few months. I wanted to see what my options were because at the time Hyperspin wasn't released yet from what I remember. When I came across a video on Youtube of HS, it was like a child watching a tv commercial for a hot new toy. You can bet it was love at first sight.

I usually hate to be the bearer of bad news, but in this case I am glad to say that Maximus Arcade is dead (don't light your torches and break out your pitchforks just yet.) Maximus Arcade was a great front end and it still is for MAME. However, I have had nothing but bad luck with it as it seems to always be more of a memory hog than HyperSpin, but still less than GameEx. Maximus was truly a beautiful system in its day, but I have from several confirmed sources (no I will not name names) that Maximus Arcade source code is up for sell, and at a ridiculous price as well ~ so the odds of it ever being revived are almost inconsequential to us end users. Yes I am sure that if you paid for it he will send you the activation code, otherwise that would be fraud, and a federal offense; so rest assured you will get your code indeed. What he is doing now is just milking off the residual sales of the application, and since there is no real at cost to the developer at this point in time, it is all profit for him, its just business. I would suspect that within the next two years a few other frontends will also fall off the market. Also, there is another frontend that I am really keeping my eye on just because it is DOS based and being developed for MAME only, as well as another project which is more of a rejuvenation of a time tested and proven frontend. How I see it is that within a few years, the majority of the population will be using HyperSpin and within five more years HyperSpin will pretty much be the be all end all of video gaming frontend systems (hey, I can dream can't I.) We here at HyperSpin have one thing that no other community has, and that is the community itself. Other sites let users go off on tangets on users, curse them out and belittle them but thanks to our resident bulldog Dazz that crap don't fly here. So, sad to let the cat out of the bag on this one, but Maximus is 100% dead, no chance of survival (unless the source code is sold, which I doubt it will be at the price being asked,) Viva La HyperSpin!

Why would anyone use Maximus over Hyperspin now? What does it offer that Hyperspin doesn't offer? I've never used Maximus, I went from Mala to Hyperspin and never looked back, I'm just curious.

I can't either, only reason I can think of is people drop the "It's too hard to setup up" excuse. IMO It doesn't take that long to get the hang of it.

I Jumped On Board The Hyperspin Fun Wagon About 12 Months Ago And Built A Cabinet Jus For The Sole Purpose To House Hyperspin And My Game Collection, I Have To Say I've Seen Several Videos On Different FE's And Chose This One Straight Off The Bat, Not Knowing Anything About Hyperspin, This Forum, Or It's Knowledgeable Fan Base, As Far As Maximus, Yea It Looks Good, But For Me Hyperspin Looks That Much Better, And I've Never Setup Any Other FE's But Hyperspin For MAME Was A Cake Walk, As Far As The Other EMUs That Is The Harder Part But More So The EMUs Fault Not Hyperspin, Add A AHK, XML, Point Your Directories To Where All Your Stuff Is And Whaa Laa, You're Playing... So When Ever I See People Say... "I Can't Do It, Blah Blah Blah" A Lil Reading & Searching Gets The Job Done, And This Is Coming From A Guy Who Knows Absolutely Nothing About Programming, HTML, Or Computer Language, All You Need Is Common Sense And The Ability To Read, Follow Direction, And Ask Questions. You Guys Have A Great Piece Of Software Here And In My Opinion The Best. Game On Everyone.

I believe it was the second left exit on the end of Wreck-it-Ralph's arcade main hub.

Sorry...reviving a somewhat old thread...

I have been reading here and there that XGaming is partnering with Maximus. Of course, I took this with a grain of salt and then I found this posted under the xgaming account on youtube less than 2 weeks ago.

Seems awful coincidental.

I went back to MA after trying to set up Hyperspin on my cab because, as Imnotstu said, it really is "Too hard" to get the hang of. I've been trying to get HS set-up for months, but it is truly hard to get looking complete. It would be much easier if I had FTP and Emumovies access, but I am only a fourteen year old, and I don't have a way to pay for things online like this. MA doesn't have the visual charm that HS has, but the set-up is basically "Show me your directories for your emulators and enjoy!" kind of thing. I got to the stage where I had to start getting art for all my games in HS, around 350, and I crippled at that point
