  5. I'm in awe at the sheer amount of hard work and talent that gets pumped into the community every day. This thread will serve as a sort of townhall for the artistic community where I'll strive to provide as much creative direction as possible with what information we're allowed to share at any given time. Questions are welcome but please note that information being provided here is effectively pretty much everything I can be divulge on a given day. I'll do my best to always give clear direction to empower creative efforts to align with future capabilities with laser precision. In general, all of the creative assets that have ever been created will persist, especially in HyperSpin 1.4. One of the goals of my current audit is to ensure HS1.4 is 100% 16:9 capable. This doesn't mean I'll have every single game theme converted but any user will be able to grab a full 16:9 compatible set off HBL without having to dick around with resizing and there will be sufficient high quality 16:9 theme assets to make a damned respectable, HD widescreen setup of quality comparable to that of our classic 4:3 counterparts. More on themes later. First, we'll start with something that's been hinted at which everyone's already inferred/expected: artwork resolution. HyperSpin has been around forever and it was originally intended to be exclusive to cab users, hence the 4:3 aspect ratio. Times have changed and while we've managed to push it to the point we can get a really clean and sexy looking high def image in HD thanks to SWF scripts, that isn't the future. Below you'll see a downsized demonstration of how current artwork assets fair in 1080p, 4K, and 8K. If you'd like to see the raw 22mb 8K image you can check it out here. As we all know, the effectiveness of current artwork resolutions maxes out at 1080p. Much larger than that and they'll appear ridiculously small without heavy upscaling, which pukes their image quality dramatically. We can see that JSinn's new discs and diskmach's new wheels, for example, are basically UHD 4K/8K ready. Then we have the Broken Sword 2.5 logo KlopjerO just cut out a few hours ago, which is basically full eternity proofed sexgasm and could probably be used as an actual wall poster. Basically there's no such thing as art that's too big or of too high a resolution, since it can always be downscaled. Now this definitely raises questions as to themes and how they'll scale. My advice at this time is make sure any new theme's individual artwork elements work in UHD, 4K at a minimum and the higher the better. Finally I want to delve into artist recognition. Us creative types are the backbone of HyperSpin so @fr0stbyt3 and I are going to work hard to create a system that ties you, as an artist, more intrinsically to your creations. We want to facilitate unavoidable exposure and recognition not just amongst us community hardcores but to any eyes that download your work, forever. Not only that but Fr0stbyt3's working out a system where we can allow users to more easily access you and your creations in their entirety. I've long held that HS artists are amongst the best in the world at what they do, even compared to those in the gaming industry, so one of my goals is to make the world and the industry realize that and take notice beyond the realm of frontends and emulation. For now, all this means is please keep track of work you're especially proud of and consider keeping a portfolio. I'm going to to continue to use HS's social media to force the world to see how awesome the artists here are. My channel's still small but I'm going to keep working and I intend to advocate for everyone using it as well. Long story short. We're going to work for their to be clearer community direction and communication of relevant information in a timely fashion. This should help clarify how we can all keep doing what we love without fear of it being for naught. I very strongly feel that this is the greatest community in the universe and I want us to show the world just that. The teamwork on display here has, historically been amazing and we're going to take that to the next level with things to come. Stay hyped friends!

I actually really liked the sets too and had to force myself to stop fixing it haha I always wanna fix everything but if I do that I'll never get the audit done haha so I really appreciate you doing that. On that note, it's a good thing I didn't upload that because the new system is "smart" in that anything I upload that doesn't match the official names will result in a new system being created XD So I might have accidentally created a few new systems that're being cleaned up now. We'll figure out how to address unofficial coverage later as it still definitely has a lot of value. For now I'm storing it locally.

  8. Update: Full audit of official Main Menu wheels complete. Includes assets gleaned from Platinum FTP, DL section, and my previously unreleased wheel sets. Doesn't include the Upload Here section yet. Due to how the former FTP handled main menu wheels, this took ~4-5 hours but I wanted to get it out of the way @_@ Moving forward, it will become much, much easier to instantly grab a full set of matching main menu wheels, as should have always been the case. These should be downloadable via HBL now but we're still finessing it what with the change from how they used to be handled. I made the decision to exclude any set that didn't have sufficient assets to encompass at least a common sensical or minimalist HS build. All the condition RED assets are basically unusable unless someone is cool with having some really mismatched main menu wheels Should be able to get some more actual sets done tomorrow! Cheers!
  9. American Laser Games audited and added to the server. It is considered a med/high priority system currently in Yellow condition. Will be promoted to Green status if it gets some mint-grade main menu/game themes. Will revisit American Laser Games and AAE for bezels/marquees soon, just trying to think of the most efficient way to sort bezels for automated distribution and automated setup. I feel like I saw a marquee thread that included nice marquees for every system but I forget. If anyone knows where marquees are for this please let me know and I'll add em. Main Menu items will be added soon. We're making main menu its own "system" for server purposes to make it possible for people to one-click pick a matching set of main menu wheels later. All assets annotated with Aspect Ratio suffix for standardization, to facilitate future search/tracking/sorting, and so as not to otherize either format. May notice some changes to systems as I remove/rename assets (eg. Just nuked Widow 2 and Widow Elliptical for being incomplete wheel sets, as noted). Cheers!
  10. Converted to work with 1.4. When this audit is done I'll be starting a separate audit to track hi res/UHD content. Not worrying tooo much about themes right now as long as they're all there and functional for current users. I probably won't be converting anymore game themes to 16:9 but I'm going to make sure every system has as high of quality possible 16:9 main menu and default systems themes. Fortunately I do already have a ton of 16:9 game themes; I think I finished every system except mebbe a few of the classics and MAME-specific game themes in general but stuff like TouHou and other smaller systems where every game has a theme I believe I have done. On shift atm but I'll figure it out when I reach em in the audit I guess XD
  11. After finishing the tut and managing social media I didn't get as much audited tonight as I'd have liked to but AAE is done and uploaded. Few notes moving forward: Main Menu wheels will be audited separately as their own unique set. This is to avoid manually uploading hundreds of unique files into hundreds of individual folders on the server. Doing it this way will also facilitate choosing a complete, homogenous main menu wheel set faster down the road, as I'm sure I'm not the only one who got halfway through their setup at one point before realizing the main menu wheel style I was using wasn't a complete set Files I upload now should become immediately available via HBL. This demands I proceed with caution but it won't slow me down. Please let me know if there are any issues with anything I upload to the server or if after seeing it you realize you have higher resolution or higher quality images Please let me know if you have media not listed for a system once I've finished with it and I will add it.   18. So the first thing I used to check was if a full power cycle (ie. unplugging then replugging after all the voltages have dropped to zero) fixed the issue. Now I first head to Device Manager -> right click the device -> Power Management. For USB specifically can also check advanced power settings and ensure selective suspend is disabled for USB devices. I find Windows routinely re-activates the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" option and I get the impression the threshold input/ouput power requirement Windows thinks it needs to see to keep a device awake doesn't exactly have the best fidelity right now.
  19. Finicky USB ports are the bane of my existence. I've never had your issue with my 4-Plays but anytime I've been faced with USB pors acting weird I uninstall device drivers, let Windows reinstall them, and disconnect from the electrical source entirely. After the last few Windows updates I also had issues with Windows defaulting to "allow windows to turn this device off to save power" with certain devices.

  21. Slight change of plans. Uploading to the DL section adds an insane amount of time to my audit workflow so I'm going to hold off for now and focus on getting the audit done and files organized appropriately. Audit goals have transitioned to basically include everything minted in the dl section and on the FTP, cross-referenced against any/all artwork I can find for every facet of every system. Any art not 16:9 I will convert to 16:9. 16:9 themes I've already converted I will include but the the time being I will not be converting additional themes. I will amend the OP to reflect all this and leave detailed notes in regards to what's missing as I go. Emphasis will be given to what I call "Enthusiast" systems (ones that are actually playable). Will continue to post updates as I go. Will continue to provide information as to which parts of which systems need love.
