meaning Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Hi all, I did have an issue with my Hyperspin install and need to reinstall everything from scratch...(HDD DEAD) :S As this was an old Hyperspin version, I began to have a look at the current version which is no 1.4 and seem to have a lot of changes. Looks like lots of emulators are now replaced by retroarch that can be used to emulate a very wide range of systems. My question is the following, do anyone know where I could grab a link, torrent file or anything that links to a recent configured Hyperspin environment ? I'm struggling with Rocketlauncher and such things, and have errors when trying to launch the emulators I do not need any roms or stuff like that, just the front-end, and the emus that works. If anyone could help I would be very happy ! Thanks !
Silverback Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Same happened to me with the dead hard drive. Almost walked away from it all but the way things are now with setting up its a lot easier. Easy way would be to follow Austin585's vids in his sig. He also has the downloads you will require for each setup. Don't think there is a full download setup as such.....just a very out of date one I would stay away from...
meaning Posted July 14, 2015 Author Posted July 14, 2015 Hey Silverback, Thank you for the answer. I'll give a shot to Austin's videos. I actually think I did fall on some youtube posts by him yesterday while searching for answers. I'm a subscriber for a while but just renewed my emumovies and hyperspin subscriptions yesterday in order to be able to use hypersync in the future. looks like it's gonna make my life easier (even if I already have the complete videos / whells etc.) Don't hypersync have the ability to automate some other things like grabbing the emulators, configuring hyperlaunch and check roms etc. ? would be dope to be honest... Also, dont you guys join an irc channel or something similar ? Would be imho the best way to communicate about the project.
meaning Posted July 14, 2015 Author Posted July 14, 2015 Also, stupid question but, shall I sue hyperlaunch, or rocketlaunch ? I'm confused here. Looks like some people are rolling back to hl? but Rocket launch is the maintained software ?
gigapig Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Use Rocket launcher, http://rlauncher.com There is a chat room ^^^^^
Silverback Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Don't hypersync have the ability to automate some other things like grabbing the emulators, configuring hyperlaunch and check roms etc. ? would be dope to be honest... Hypersync will grab all your videos and artwork automatically. Emulators, configuring roms and rocket launcher you will have to configure yourself. Good luck.
meaning Posted July 14, 2015 Author Posted July 14, 2015 thank you for the help dudes ! Question: As far as I can see most of the systems are now correctly emulated by both MAME, MESS and retroArch. Do a page exist that list each system supported by hyperspin and tells which is best emulator to use to emulate it ? Would be a time saver. I also understand that playing with less emulators means less configuration time (especially when it comes to command line parameters to adapt for each different emulator, which was damn of a headache to achieve back in the days)
Silverback Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 This might be of some help....http://nonmame.retrogames.com/ I have used retroarch lately for most of my systems and yes it is less headache.
SIMPLYAUSTIN Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 thank you for the help dudes ! No problem Question: As far as I can see most of the systems are now correctly emulated by both MAME, MESS and retroArch. Yes, only a few obscure like Model 2 and 3 need other emulators to get them smooth. PS2, GameCube and Wii need grunt and their own emus too, but you will need a more advanced PC. although my new Dolphin/wii/GC vid helps with that alot now... even 32x! Do a page exist that list each system supported by hyperspin and tells which is best emulator to use to emulate it ? Would be a time saver. I think there does, but it was not kept up to date. I think theres an outside link to another site which is more advanced. Maybe someone could link? Main line to take with it is.... -If its Arcade its more than likely MAME. Always use MAME as first choice for older Arcade. Zinc, AAE etc.. all done much better with MAME now. -If its a real retro console such as the Atari 2600 etc then go for MESS. -If its a late 80s or 90s console, prob best go for RA. I also understand that playing with less emulators means less configuration time (especially when it comes to command line parameters to adapt for each different emulator, which was damn of a headache to achieve back in the days) No need for those headaches anymore. 99% is all done in the modules. Just poin the global Emus to your exe's and then your good to go Simply Austin's YouTube
meaning Posted July 14, 2015 Author Posted July 14, 2015 that's great ! now...I have another issue Installed last mame and RetroArch and both of them crashed at startup !!! mame for some Direct3D reason...guess I need to install old DirectX libraries... And retroarch with absolutely no reason. gonna have to fix this first.
SIMPLYAUSTIN Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 runtimes, direct x 9, C++ all need installing before anything on Hyperspin.... pain in the ass Simply Austin's YouTube
uplinkpro Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 This happened to me a few months back, just starting my rebuild and finding it daunting X_X i lost my bigger collections like PSX and Dreamcast so that will be a pain to get again now that UG is dead. Good luck with yours
Metalzoic Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Bummer. You guys don't keep a backup? Mine backs up to a separate 5T driver every Sunday night so hopefully if it goes down I only lose a couple days of tinkering at worst.
SIMPLYAUSTIN Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Loads of places to get good sets. Just got to look in the right places:) Simply Austin's YouTube
meaning Posted July 14, 2015 Author Posted July 14, 2015 @MetalZoic : that's exactly what I'm currently doing... 1. Still have roms -> no action needed 2. But emulators are outdated -> need to make sure I make use of as less emulators as possible as mentioned before 3. And Media files are all there except for very last systems like Wii, etc. -> hypersync will help me here 4. And all videos are SD Flv shitty files -> I will only keep the old flv's for the systems not supported by hypersync, then run a sync of all systems I deleted the old 240p files from But you'r right, with some knowledge, and configuring everything from scratch again should take around 2 whole days... Imho as bandwith is not a problem anymore nowadays, I'dd love to see some guy zipping and upping his fresh instal once a while. I would definitely grab updated, full packages (except for roms), from a torrent file from time to time... It would be around, lets say, 250go? this is basically nothing. By the way, I did grab the whole thing on UG back in the days, so YES it is definitely possible to do so.
damageinc86 Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 yeah for some reason that just doesn't really exist. don't know why. It would make entry into this much more pleasant. and the stuff is free to begin with, so it wouldn't be like those assholes selling drives.
meaning Posted July 14, 2015 Author Posted July 14, 2015 I'm ok to do so and up it to a box (without the roms to make sure I do not have copyright problems)...but hey ! First I need to make my new setup up and running ! nothing works at the moment... Of course if someone super uber nice wants to do it now and let me grab the pack I'dd be thankful as well
Metalzoic Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 I wonder how simple it could be made? Latest Hyperspin/RocketLauncher/Best emulators combo. Set up as an H: drive with H: roms folder already path matched to the programs. An "Install all these programs to C:" folder for things like Demons Tools, VJoy etc... A "best of" media folder for everything (optional download? or maybe a with/without download?) Then all they would really need would be instructions on setting up & mapping their controllers and any other odds/ends that need additional drive mapping. ...That really shouldn't be too hard. Although I'm probably overlooking a bunch.
