halfkast Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Hi Guys, Is there a tutorial on how to setup up PS3 controllers to a PC running HyperSpin that covers what software, hardware and configuration is required? Ive had a look around these forums but havent been to successful in locating anything all in the one place. Is there a certain type of bluetooth dongle that i need? What software or drivers do i need? Thanks in advance guys!
DrMoney Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 I use the Motioninjoy drivers with Rocketfish adapters from Best Buy myself. It's a bit of pain to install if you have other bluetooth devices but here's a decent tutorial: versatile1.wordpress.com/2012/11/24/how-to-use-motioninjoy-to-connect-ps3-controllers-via-usb/ TUTORIAL!: Xpadder and You If you're super into using genuine controllers for emulation check THIS GUY out.
halfkast Posted May 12, 2013 Author Posted May 12, 2013 Thanks for that link - do you know if the PS# controller will work with the in-built bluetooth in laptops?
volumetric Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 pretty sure it can, at least with the motioninjoy driver.
Hyperion Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Thanks for that link - do you know if the PS# controller will work with the in-built bluetooth in laptops? Yes it will, but if I were you I'd steer clear of Motioninjoy and choose Scarlet Crush's utilities instead. They're open source, ad free, offline and if it doesn't work perfectly the developer is the most helpful guy around and he'll walk you through it if you ask nicely. See my previous post on the topic here. In regards to what BT dongle to buy (only if your internal BT doesn't work) then pretty much any V3.0 dongle will do. Such as this one. EDIT: Oh, and as the good DrMoney hinted, if you want to use other bluetooth devices as well as your DS3 then be sure to buy a extra dedicated dongle because all the BT/DS3 solutions make exclusive use of your dongle so you'll need to get one specially for your DS3(s). tastyratz Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 I tried motioninjoy since I love ps3 controllers and have them already. I went out and picked up xbox 360 controllers because of that hellish nightmare. I haven't tried Scarlet Crush's utilities but Motioninjoy is a freakin mess I wouldn't waste my time on. It never worked right and was very frustrating..
halfkast Posted May 13, 2013 Author Posted May 13, 2013 Thanks for the responses guys. From what i have been reading the Xbox 360 controllers are easier to setup than the PS3 controllers? Can someone confirm this at all? And whats the setup and configuration like for the xbox 360 controllers? A lot less hassle than the PS3 controllers? I have both controllers and dont mind which ones i use and would prefer to go the route of the eaiser setup process.
Andyman Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 If you have a wired 360 controller, setup is as simple as plugging the thing into your USB and then configuring it in the emulator. If it's wireless, plug the receiver into USB, run the install program, and sync the controller with the receiver. Cake.
halfkast Posted May 13, 2013 Author Posted May 13, 2013 Awesome! So just to confirm with the 360 controllers - i install the drivers from here if i want to attach the 360 controller by USB otherwise i install the xbox 360 wireless controller receiver and all drivers and simply sync the controllers - once this is complete i then assign the buttons in each emulator for the controller? If so then i will be using the 360 controllers! I also read that emulators may not save the controller configurations after exiting, can someone confirm this and point me to an easy to follow guide as to how to resolve this issue if there is a fix? Also what wireless receiver would you recommend to user for the 360 and does it support multiple controllers at the one time or will i need 1 receiver per controller? Thanks again guys!
tastyratz Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 360 is a walk in the park, if you have directx support you are mandated to include directinput controller support. If it's a windows certified directx game, it runs on x360 controllers as well. ps3 controller drivers just run... funny. Sometimes I rebooted, sometimes controllers had different id's so I would have to re-program all my buttons again... etc. x360 just plain works and is made to work in windows. Buy the first controller as the controller for windows version it comes with the wireless receiver cheaper. second one can use the same wifi receiver. Don't buy the ebay receivers if you can buy the kit first. go in the emulators manually 1 by 1 to configure before opening them in HS and you're fine.

Sorry this part raises a couple of questions - Do i have to buy new controllers or can i use the ones i use with my xbox 360 and just buy the seperate windows wireless receiver? Do you have a link to the wireless receiver/controllers that i should be using?

That install program is only for the wireless 360 controller. Windows already has drivers for the wired one. I just use the Chinese knockoff wireless receivers you can find for about $6 or so on eBay. They work just as well as the genuine receiver in my opinion. Not sure about multiple controllers per receiver. I only use 1.
tastyratz Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 I know you can use multiple per receiver, its what I do now. I recommended buying the one made for windows because it's the only way to get the genuine microsoft one right now. I have heard of people having issues with the knock off one. If there is a good knock off one that is out there I couldn't tell you.
halfkast Posted May 13, 2013 Author Posted May 13, 2013 Do you guys have a link to the genuine microsoft receiver and the cheap chinese receiver you speak of?
halfkast Posted May 13, 2013 Author Posted May 13, 2013 Ok guys, i ended up buying this wireless receiver from ebay for $15 which i hope is the right one but if not then hey, it was only $15 - it looks exactly like the this one on the microsoft website so pretty sure it is - once this arrives then i will install the driver/s mention a few posts ago - will keep you updated on the progress.
ninja2bceen Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 If I set up a ps3 controller or xbox 360 controller to joypad or keymapper to use in hyperspin will the controllers still work on the ps3 or xbox? Is the mapping changing how the buttons are programmed or just and emulator to us on the pc without changing the controller hardware? Is the mapping changing how the buttons are programmed or just and emulator to us on the pc without changing the controller hardware? You'll have to resync them to get them to work with your console again. On PS3 just plug them in directly and hit the PS button. On Xbox there's a little hidden button on the front of the console. The mapping only changes how they work on your computer. It's not possible to change how the controller functions without physically changing it. While you're setting them up for your computer, unplug your console so it doesn't interfere.
ninja2bceen Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 Just getting to the wireless ds3 piece here... I'm reading to get The PS3 connected wirelessly I need to run the zadig exe. I have two controllers, seems like I can map both controllers via Bluetooth to the one device right? The product says it can support 7 devices. I saw on a youtubevideo though that if I run the zidiag exe that all other Bluetooth devices won't connect to the doggle other than the controllers. I have a wireless sound bar connected already. If I sync my PS3 controllers with the ziadiag exe, will I have to buy another doggle to ensure my pc Bluetooth speakers still work?
