I think we all have our epic stories when finishing the game for a first time or beating an all-time highscore or just getting past that one bit where we were stuck forever. I would like this to be the place where we can share such stories with each other.

Back when Gran Turismo 4 came out, it was the very first time Polyphony Digital introduced 24hrs endurance races. A buddy and myself decided to give it a go at the Nordschleife, better know as the Nürburgring or notoriously named by Sir Jackie Stewart as the "Green Hell". I made a racing cabinet back when GT3 was released so we installed ourselves and set about to tackle this fun racing track. For those who are not aware, this is a 20.81km (12.93mi) long course.

Our plan was very simple, we would take 2hrs stints or change places whenever a pitstop was required. We would lap at about the same pace but I was more forgiving on the tires so I could do one or two more laps on the same sets of tires then he could. All throughout the race we did very good. Took first place somewhere around 1/4 the way through but were never able to pull much lead on the 2nd car.

As we came closer to the end of the race we managed to increase our lead by about 3/4 of a lap on the 2nd car. My buddy had the final stint and we were approaching the final 10 minutes of our 24hrs race. It turns out his tires were slowly turning from orange to red.

So we were discussing if we would take a final pit-stop on the 2nd to last lap or just try and give it a go and drive our way to victory on the sets of tires we still had. Albeit not at the fastest pace but we had more than enough advantage at that point.

We decided to go ahead and risk it.

Our final lap progressed and the tires of the car got worse and worse. When we hit Aremberg or about 5kms into the track they were bright red! Because I was the better driver, we decided to pause the game and switch places there. I managed to do ok considering the circumstances but by the time I arrived at the Karussell (13km mark) it felt like I was driving on ice. It was also at that point that we got a pop-up message indicated the number 2 car had pitted. We should have pitted we told each other.

So there I was 23hrs 57mins into the race and the heat was all on me! The car was nearly uncontrollable, spinning out of control like a mad man! The split times between us and the 2nd care were slowly but steadily getting smaller and smaller. He was gaining on us and fast.

By the time we were approaching the final long hairpin it was quite obvious that we would get passed somewhere on the long straight... which inevitably happened. I managed to get the car across the finish line with a 20 seconds gap behind the 1st car.

In retrospect we should have pitted on our last lap and this topic is still something my buddy and myself joke about to this day. At first he felt really sorry but in the end it's just a video game. No harm was done and we did end up enjoying ourselves for those 24hrs.

So what are some of your great achievements, failures or allround memorable gaming experiences. Please do share!

in halo 3 my brother was the first one in the world to get all the achievements on xbox 360

in halo reach he was number one in the world for spartan laser kills

i was number one in the world for kills with the plasma turret at the time no one had more than 30 kills with it so i got 40

my friend was close to the top of the board for most betrayals (killing team mates)

all in all we destroyed halo reach.  then they destroyed the halo franchise with halo 4 and 5

That's a good story,I'll have to think about it myself but I'm pretty sure I do not have anything that epic.

I'm sure you had some kind of epic battle in WoWS, that sort of game lends itself to epic fights. I'm more of a WarThunder guy and I once had a 20-0 killstreak in an arcade plane match.

Seems like you and your brother are a duo to be afraid of when going into a multiplayer game of Halo.  :woot:

I've never had an Xbox console, I switched from being a console gamer to a pc-gamer after the 16bit era. But I did had immense fun with the first Halo on PC tho, I remember turning off the ingame soundtrack and switched to my own collection of music. I was really into techno at that moment in time.

So everytime I go back to the early 2000 era of techno music, I've got vivid memories of shooting aliens in Halo.

And thanks to the both of you for contributing to this topic, I was thinking it was going to have a slow death cause there were like 30some views and no comments.

I think this is a cool thread...but you did open with a hell of a story ;)

I only just started with WoWS actually so I haven't had time to experience so much yet but every battle is kind of epic to me...great game. As a kid I built a lot of models of warships and am still fascinated by them.

I actually suck at most games lol. I remember my old NES being on for like a month to get through some games and god if there was a power out LOL. In our house my wife is the big gamer :) she just got more talent and never ever gives up. So nowadays I'm more of a engineer to get all the games and getting them to work as well as doing HS stuff.

Recently I for the first time ever built a gaming rig with a good cpu and gpu and have found a new love for games...don't get me wrong...I still suck, but at least I play now :P

So maybe there will be some epic stories to come.

Don't get me wrong...I have played a lot of hours in my time but I've always been this average gamer. Gran Turismo is probably the games I've played the most.

I played foodfight when I was like 12, on atari 7800, all day Saturday and sunday on a single game thinking I was going to beat it. At least 16 hours of play, paused it and played Monday, paused it and tuesday my mom unplugged the console because she needed to vacuum.....I learned some games repeat forever and moms dont care about high scores....

The opening story is a fond memory, it's not so epic tho, just seems that way when you write it out in text, besides it was a loss :) I'm gonna wait till WarThunder comes out with ships, I'm not that interested in the gaming model from Wargaming. You can only have a set amount of ships and if you want another one you have to sell your old ones. I also remember leaving the console on for extended periods of time, the first Gran Turismo was like that before I had a memory card.

My mum was a gamer herself in the late 80's, after we went to bed she kept on playing on Super Mario Bros or Tetris was another fav of hers.

I think I've spend most of my time on the Gran Turismo series, Sim City 4 and Diablo III. War Thunder is also pretty high up there.

I'm loving the feedback here, so much nostalgia :gamer:

When I was a kid I had Captain Skyhawk for the NES. The game is damn hard and looking back, I have no idea how I was even able to play it but after weeks and weeks of playing it I finally beat it. I got really excited to see the game's epic ending only to see a black screen with "Game Over"

My most epic victory was when I bought Silent Hill 2 for Playstation 2, played the game through the night and beat it and then returned it the next day.  Probably not my proudest moment but I was a college kid with limited money.

I will let you know when I am able to beat Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for NES. I have been trying for over 20 years.

Dont know if it counts but for me Play Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver was a complete epic experience. I never had a psx... Whas too poor for that and only have a Sega genesis... So 3d games where out of my reach. Then I got a scholarship on highschool... That was not so much money but with that I can buy mi first PC. I already know emulation because I see it on tv or test it on my friend house so the first use for my PC was install BGB and play Zelda DX. But then I realized that psx can be emulated also (I do not have internet at the time just get games and emulators from friends). A friend buy the LOK: Soul Reaver but never played it so much I never see the game either. Then it was about to throw the game away and i ask him to give me the game instead to see if I liked it. The game was epic... Was the first 3d PSX game a could emulate on my modest pc... And was completely translated to Spanish... I mean the voice acting was on my language. I can use weapons and the environment to kill vampires... I was very bad at the game... Never unlock secrets but finally end it.... Anyway For me Raziel represents all the good things in games :)

Aah yes, the era when Nintendo games were very hard and cutscenes were non-existent. Good job for beating the game, enjoy this b/w GAME OVER screen   I recall getting stuck on Captain Planet & Batman in my teen years. And omfg TMNT is so difficult I barely managed to get through the water lvl, same thing with Earthworm Jim.  Are you aware of the proto version of TMNT? Even with the level select I haven't beaten the game.

Off course this counts, this is the exact thing why I made this thread. Thanks for sharing.

And to those lurkers out there (you know who you are :P ), don't be shy and just tell your story even if it's as short as "I finished X game and it was awesome"; I'd like to read more lol

Back in 1988 or something a friend of mine bought an Amiga 500 and I went to see him and play all night.

I was already playing games since the mid-70's and Pong but I had never seen anything that great.

One a the few games he had stood out and we played it for hours.

The game was FA/18 Interceptor (

) which was one of the first aircraft sim for the amiga and certainly the best at the time.

The dogfights were especially great in part because we didn't knew how to use the sidewinders and only use the cannons (there was no manual as we didn't ...ahem...really bought the game you know :) which made them more difficult and more rewarding.

We played for the better part of the night until it came to a sudden halt when I decided to go to the WC in the dark and instead crashed into a pile of disks which made a huge noise and woke up everybody in the house !!!

Anyway it was a great moment and I remember being completely hypnotized by the small white dot, representing the enemy aircraft, we were chasing for long minutes.

Ahaha lol, brings back memories of trying to be as quiet as possible on a nightly gaming session only to have it ruined by the noise you make when relieving yourself of your bodily functions and bringing down the wrath of your folks upon yourself.

Merci de partager tes souvenirs!
