Art Newbie creating theme, but one problem

I created a default theme for Nintendo DS in HyperTheme, think it went rather well

considering I`m an art newbie.

But I have a problem: I`m using some pngs in the video folder for missing

videos, but in the video window in my theme, they don`t scale properly, there`s a big black chunk to the right.

Videos fit as they should.

How can I correct this?

I had a similair problem and i rescaled the png file to the correct size, added it to the theme and it was solved. Maybe this is your problem?

Thanks for your answer, rikoos.

I was about to check if I could fix it as you described, but now I have another problem, Hypertheme doesn`t open any existing themes.

Not the one I created, not other existing ones either? No error message, just that nothing shows up. Ever seen this?

There's an option in the theme xml: Force aspect, which does as it says basically

There's also the height & width in there.

Still, giving the .png placeholders the same dimensions as the vids is probably the best solution.

HyperTheme should be able to open theme zips. Have you updated HT to the latest version or are you using the one that came with the HS install?

Either way, I prefer editing the xml over reopening in HT. (extract the xml, edit, add back to zip with: add & replace / store settings)

Hi, THK. Thanks for your answer.

My Hypertheme is ver. 1.1.5.0, think it came with HS. If there´s a later version, it´s hard to find...

I edited the xml in my theme, it was set to "Force Aspect: Both", trying all 4 possibilities. Same result, a black box beside the png to the right.

Earlier I tried to make the png´s the same aspect ratio as the movies, didn´t seem to help. Now i tried making it 480x720, exactly as the NDS movies, still the same aspect ratio as I had them before,

but still the same.

This doesn´t really make sense to me, if Hypertheme accepts the png as a replacement for a video, and it has the same size, why doesn´t it show up in the same way?

But I´m probably missing something...Or it´s a bug...

Yep. I have one PC that opens them fine and another PC that doesn't open them just like yours. Both the same Hypertheme version and download.

They both run Win 10 now, but the problem was the same when they both ran Win 7.

I've messed with it a bunch, but never managed to fix it. I can build themes just fine on it, but once they are created and zipped I have to email them to the other computer to ever open or edit them.

Metalzoic: Thinking that it might be a Windows 10 issue, I tried it on a Virtual Machine with XP sp3. Still the same result.

Maybe some undefined dependency that is not met? But I´m trying to use it on my Hyperspin machine, that has everything you can think of installed...

Next step is probably to roam around in a couple of my cupboards, in order to find some old laptops to try to install it on...

One reason why Hypertheme won't open any zips files is because one or more files in the zip are compressed. For Hypertheme to open/edit a theme from a zip, the zip needs to have no compression, i.e. "Store method" I never found a way to edit a theme and then have the file store back to the zip, so instead I just rezip the entire theme. As for the scaling, I always set my aspect to both and don't seem to have any problems with black bars.

Yeuxkes: Thanks for your input, but I still can´t open ANY zipfiles from Hypertheme, be it store zip or compressed, be it a "classic" MAME one or one that I just created. I also tried to storezip them manually, still no go.

And as for the scaling, it seems to be working for videos, just that pesky problem when a png is diplayed, when I don´t have the video.
