Metalzoic Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 Been playing the crap out of it the past few days, but finally figured out every room. Had a ton of runs where I only died once, but finally made it through with no deaths and was recording it from boot! This is on the enhanced 2.1 rom running on my arcade cab through Daphne. Last time I beat this game without dying was in 93 (I think), but was on the 3Do version which was missing a few rooms if I remember right.
kylecp1979 Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 Wow man!!! Way To GOOO!!! I don't think I ever beat it without dying. This was a game I use to play as a kid at the roller skating ring with my friends and I remember spending like a million dollars it felt like trying to beat it. Great job! Great video!!!
Metalzoic Posted June 11, 2016 Author Posted June 11, 2016 Thanks. It gets nerve wracking the closer you get to the end. My first run where I had only one death I did perfect through the entire game until the very last move that kills the dragon. Literally the very last button press to win the game and I died. I couldn't believe it.

Metalzoic Posted June 12, 2016 Author Posted June 12, 2016 Found a video of this guy also beating it with no deaths playing through Daphne (good job dude!). Looks like he's playing using the standard arcade rom that doesn't start at the bridge and jumps randomly. But look at the difference in image quality. Mine on top is running the HD files and I'm guessing his is running the standard files. The difference in quality is pretty huge, especially in the color. Check out the 1:35 mark in mine and the 1:40 in his for a same scene comparison.
rastan Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 Dragon's Lair and Space Ace are two games that if you play them a lot you master them good but don't play them often and it's a pain in the ass! I can't even remember any of the moves and I used to end it on Amiga all the time years ago. it's funny I remember being able to end Super Mario Brothers without dying and now I barely make it off the second world if I'm not really trying to play it.
iNTiGOD Posted June 16, 2016 Posted June 16, 2016 Could never get my head around this game.... congratulations... its an amazing feat!! MAME High Score Tutorial For HyperSpin
phantasy Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 I have beat the game, but after LOTS and LOTS of deaths. I do have a 'cheat' code that works well for me... I watch the play-through on the BluRay version.
Metalzoic Posted December 2, 2016 Author Posted December 2, 2016 If I have time this weekend I'll see if I can beat Space Ace with no deaths. And like I did with DL the ruiles will be that I can never look up tricks or walkthroighs. That's cheating and only wieners and little girls cheat. Or maybe Road Blaster/Avenger which is freaking awesome. There's one spot late game that always gets me though.
phantasy Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 good thing I quoted a joke cheat then. How do you go about creating HD versions? Did you have to do something with the BluRays? I heard the one game based on Lupin (Cliff Hanger, I believe) has updated video files based off of dvds, etc. Also, do you play any of the games in MAME (or varient of) or are all through Daphne?
Suhrvivor Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 No cool bezels in any of the recordings. Son, I'm disappoint.
griffin518 Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 @Metalzoic Congrats! I have an off-topic question... do you have a separate wheel for Daphne, or did you fold DL and SA into an arcade wheel? I've thought about it for some time but have never added Daphne to my setup.
