Linkseo Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 Is anyone having this issue? I have mame 175 and roms from pack .138 cuz i didnt see packs for .175 Almost all exclusivly capcom games dont launch. Even older ones like streetfighter 1 or 2. Is the rom pack the issue? Or was there a setting that you all know about to make them run?

You need to make sure that you have matching emulator and roms version. So if you're using MAME 175 emulator - you need the 175 rom set. Plus there have been major changes since you rom pack version of 138 and the emu version of 175. A couple of versions difference wouldn't have made much of a difference. There's years of development between those two versions. It's around
adamg Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 The old romsets do not like new emulators. You will need the 175 romset (cough pleasuredome cough) or a 138 version of mame.
Linkseo Posted July 20, 2016 Author Posted July 20, 2016 Great thanks I'll look elsewhere. While im here, im dying t know how to change mame to be more like a crt tv. Retroarch does this no problem. I was reading stuff about changing a serring in the ini file, also read to use mameuifx. Is that a differwnt emulator altogether? Or a plug in for regular mame? How do you all get around this issue? Im in pixel hell here. Thanks and sorry for all the questions

Metalzoic Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 Is anyone having this issue? I have mame 175 and roms from pack .138 cuz i didnt see packs for .175 That's probably the biggest mis-match I've seen someone try. I'm not even sure how many years old 138 is... Like the others said you always want your versions for everything to be the same. Mame exe, Mame folder structure, Roms, CHDs and database. So if you update or change one you should update and change them all

rastan Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 yeah was going to say with mame you have to have the right rom set for the emulator! some games like older ones that haven't been changed since the first release will probably always work with any version of mame but since mame sets always change... you'll always run into problems if you don't update the rom set.. .138 is pretty old
Linkseo Posted July 20, 2016 Author Posted July 20, 2016 Im new to the scene lol. List is being updated as we speak. Bout another hour. Next i gotta try and tackle this mame hsls, ini files, mameuifx. Im so confused here. I'll do more research tonight. Since mame has been around so many years you'd think someone would've make a "on and off" button thats says "make pixels smooth" by now. Smdh
wesfranks Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 Be careful what you say. Many consider pixel "smoothing" to be a crime. Like saying you play fullscreen or that you're a Republican.

People actually like playing with high resolution pixels? I like playing like I did when I was a kid like CRT looking screens. Or is it just the word "smoothing" i shouldnt be using? LolAs for fullscreen, do you allnplay in window mode???

Mameuifx is just an alternate version of MAME that has an easier to use and setup UI and plays a few extra hack games than normal MAME. 2. HLSL and GLSL aren't to bad to setup. GLSL you basically just turn on a couple options (opengl on, GLSL on) and pick your shader. It doesn't need to get more complicated than that unless you want it to. HLSL has a ton more settings to mess with, but one of the ini files included has defaults that are already pretty good without even messing with them. 3. ini files follow a hierarchy. At the bottom is mame.ini, you can make a horizont.ini that all your horizontal games will default to. A vertical.ini that all vertical games will use. A raster.ini or a vector.ini for those screen types. Or you can make individual game ini's (romname.ini) if specific games need special attention. You'll pick it up quick. Sent from my SM-G935V
Linkseo Posted July 21, 2016 Author Posted July 21, 2016 Thank you. This is very informative. So i'll uninstall one of these mames. As for the ini files. I downloaded one of the users ini set up from here (griffin?) and replaced my ini files with his. I launched again and didn't seem to work. still looked high rez pixels. I had to run to work though and didn't get a chance to check deeper into it, I will later tonight. I think I had to also enable it somewhere in rocket launcher? Again will check tonight and let you all know. Thanks

Otherwise you're changing all your other settings too. Second, you have to be sure the ini you're copying is for the same version as yours. You don't mix versions (not ini's, roms, files, chds etc...) unless you want problems. Third, yes when you change things you often need to change settings in both the emulator itself, as well as RocketLauncher and maybe any other programs you use with them. In RocketLauncher you have all your Settings, but each module also has it's own settings. Each module also has its own instruction (that can be read from RocketLauncherUI) that you should always read when learning/setting up a system/emulator. Read the instructions before asking here because a lot of the time you can fix it yourself.
