HyperSpin SpecialArt Organiser 1.05 Released

Ok, so I've finally completed the testing of this program and releasing it to the community.

So what is it and why do I need it?

Special Art is already pre-built into HyperSpin. You see it as the animated joysticks and Free Play images.

After speaking to several friends on here I got the idea that as the artwork was SWF files I could remove the original stuff and create new stuff and take it to a whole new level.

What I did is create artwork for Special Art A which ended up being like the frame.

I created Special Art B which ended up being animated buttons on a per controller basis...eg Xbox360 or Playstation.

The Special Art C was Genre art and this now changes depending on the genre and is displayed in the upper right location.

All of this artwork is like a large overlay on top of your normal HyperSpin experience.

Once I had done this I realised that to implement it into your system was a copy and paste nightmare as the SpecialArt folder is required on a per system basis.

I basically created a program that after you select the Theme you want across your system it does all the hard work for you.

I have included 5 themes but more are coming and are very easy to install.

I created the program in such a way that everything you do up and until the final "Copy to Real HyperSpin" does not affect your build whatsoever. You can therefore test without error.

I have included lots of help screens to get you along to the completion without error.

I have had assistance from GigaPig in testing it out and I believe everything works as planned. I have used it many times on my own real setup. (Thanks for you time!)

Any questions, just ask.

Here are some demo pics

Nice work! I can see this having a lot of potential.

My gaming PC is out of action at the moment (I've got to buy a new graphics card after pay day and reinstall Windows) but I look forward to trying this out on a fresh install of HS & RL.

I haven't done one as Gigapig told me it was easy to do.

Briefly,

Load program follow stage 1-6

Load gallery thumbnails to choose Theme

Choose which controllers you need and position them accordingly ( I only use xbox360 for one and none for the rest)

Then go from stage to stage.

Click. On the help buttons for further explanation on each stage.

Great job on this! Thank you for the detailed image. (Wish I saw that before my last post)

Did you manage to make it through to completion ok?

I sure did! The only thing is there are a few systems that do not have a system template for the theme 4 I selected. Some include:

1) Nintendo Wii U

2) PC Fighting Games

3) Capcom Play Systems (1-3)

Id like to help if possible. Any chance you can provide a blank template for the system themes? Or if there is a way to do it with the files within the RAW MEDIA folder, lemme know.

They are tricky to do so my thoughts were to maintain it myself with requests from people like you.

As people name things slightly differently all I require is....

1) The name of the system (use rocketlauncher icon names)

2) The name of the preceding and proceeding system

3) What generation if possible

4) Date it was current

Wiki is good for this info. My info may be incorrect in places so I can amend it here and everyone benefits as they all get the updates.

I intend to do the updates to themes this way also.

Ok?

Are you pleased with the results?

I might be missing something here - but can't your app just read from the main menu XML?

That way you won't have to hard code system names.

Each systems art work is on a per system basis. Then converted to swf. How would parsing the XML help?

The program does read your hyperspin to see what systems you've got installed before copying so it's not a blanket copy for all. But the artwork starts as a psd and converted to png and finally swf.

Have I miss understood you?

FYI

I done this as my usual blind man clicking buttons and had a few problems. Going to bed so will update later. Think most systems still have the default swf mixed in(def main menu) and the template is half way up the screen.

These in sure are my mistakes and it's only a test rig so doesn't matter. I'll do it again properly and report back.

The artwork look really good and the program is easy to use. Good job

@potts43

Thanks! Either way works for me. I suspect you've got the information needed for Wii U and the CPS systems. PC Fighting Games is obviously just a genre wheel, so no information regarding preceding or proceeding system or generation date needed just n/a will suffice. Another suggestion would be Nintendo 3DS as that system is fast approaching.

Aren't you already using the android shield Theme setup?

Update system pack 1

Systems added by request:

Capcom Play System
Capcom Play System II
Capcom Play System III
Nintendo Wii U
PC Fighting Games

This has an unpacked folder structure of:

"RAW MEDIA only\Themes\System\Theme 1"
"RAW MEDIA only\Themes\System\Theme 2"   etc etc

so unpack over original installation or unpack and then copy over the updated theme folders.

Please.....if you want a specific system creating can you gather the information first as requested above to save me having to do it for you. (Post #11)

That was already included in the initial release. One of us has a typo?

Found it! Guess I need higher prescription glasses..... :shot:

It should have been installed along with all the others. That doesn't make sense unless you didn't have it installed (folder already created in the media folder)

Is there an easy way to revert back to the original swf's. I did the backup steps

I will have a play over the weekend anyway. Just taught is was easier to ask first:)

Did not build that feature in yet but what you can do is select rename all from the special b configuration screen and it will rename all specialb art to the extension.bkp so they won't show in hyperspin. You can then start again.

However you could simply just re-run the program and it will overwrite the old stuff that you tried before.

Eg you can only have one speciala.swf

And only one specialb1,b2,b3,b4 & b5.

Any installed art would be overwritten by the new configuration.

If today you installed a new system it would have only the original stuff and therefore you would have to rerun it or the new system would have no custom art.....

Although I've done 85 systems there are others out there which is why I asked for anyone wanting new systems to be created and preconfigured to get the information to make my side a little easier.

So at the moment you cannot go back to the original swf's but with a little bit of thought it shouldn't be too difficult my end to add that in by creating a theme called "Hyperspin defaults"

Would anyone want that added?
