The HyperSpin 2 beta is here!

We’re starting the first public testing phase with Platinum Members to keep the scope manageable while we test the current feature set and begin to add more. In the future, we’ll provide a version for basic members as well.  On behalf of the entire HyperSpin team, we look forward to another exciting adventure with our community.

So these specs would be equivalent right? Which is stronger?

Dell Optiplex 780 Desktop Pc Core 2 Quad 2.40ghz 8gb 1tb hhd

Or

HP Refurbished Black Pavilion p6-2143w AMD Quad-Core A6-3650 Accelerated Processor, 8GB Memory, 1TB Hhd

I would look at the dolphin faq. They don't even recommend amd procs. Which is why i went with an i7 as dolphin is one of the most demanding emulators. if you are looking to play everything under the sun on dolphin the fastest proc you can afford is highly recommended. Core2quad wont cut it.

Thanks, will core 2 quad cut it for everything else though? If dolphin isn't used? Maybe for any emulator prior to the gamecube?

I think the most demanding emulator I have them is epsxe or desmulme or nulldc?

That would most likely be the case. As in should be ok. Ps1 seemed fine on my core 2 quad. I updated to play some jap ps2 import i bought that would not run and i wanted gauntlet legends to work.

And some dolphin stuff may work ok. Depends on the games.

In the realm of emulation (currently), its about the proc speed that you would want to have a look at and not the amount of cores (mainly 4+ Ghz). There is a thread here on the HS forums that discusses the Pentium G3258 Duo Core Anniversary Edition CPU that does really well due to the ability of overclocking to 4 + Ghz. Unless the specific emulator can use multiple cores to proceess, I would have a look at clock speed first when bu idling your system.

4+ is hard to find. I only want to spend 200-300 on updating the computer. Considering thatwouldthis get me by?

Dell · OptiPlex · Dual-core · Intel CPU · 8 GB RAM · 3.33 GHz

It sounds like the above is a better option the below? And quad doesnt matter?

Dell Optiplex 780 Desktop Pc Core 2 Quad core 2.40ghz 8gb ram

It says no OS but I have a window 7 64 bit disc that I could probably use? Right? Just pop it in when I First turn it on?

3.3ghz on a core 2 duo/quad is not enough for some dolphin, pcsx2 and demul games, I can say that because I'm using a @3.2ghz q6600.

Right now the best bang for buck is a Pentium G3258 with a z97 motherboards and a decent heatsink. If you dig into motherboards you can spare more money, there are some cheap b81 and b85 motherboards where overclock can be enabled with a bios upgrade.

Desmume may slow down a bit sometimes with more demanding games, as far as i've seen nulldc works fine (some slowdown with games that have problems, for example trigger heart exelica).

The 8600 is better than the quadcore, most emulators use only 2 cores and it is decently clocked. Always consider that a core i or the suggested g3258, clock per clock, is about 1.6x faster than a c2d. Honestly it's a SHAME considering how many years have passed BUT often in emulation and gaming world a mere +20% makes the difference :P AMD apus seems a bit slower than a good c2d on single threaded application.

Hi guys. :)

Wt..

May I ask why this - in my opinion - very important thread/information is not marked as a sticky in the main Hyperspin Forum? I also saw so many people asking for the "best" HW in google and forums, complaining about the right gfx card. ...

And I for myself had almost the same "problem". I built an mame machine. It should only be used for older mame games and some Laserdisc-based ones. Not a problem for a slow processor, right? So I end up buying a Intel D425KT Board with an Atom 1,8GHz and it worked pretty good. Then I wanted to use Hyperspin. I loaded it up two days ago and thought someone had underclocked my whole system. xD

I thought (of course?) about gfx card or RAM and thankfully saw this thread here. Of course it's a little sad to know that even if you want to use only some older games but want to have that nice Hyperspin style too, you have to buy a powerful processor only for that menu. But to at least know that and don't have to search and buying stuff which won't help you, is really helping. :)

So I want to say: Thank you. :top:

An atom can't cope with an official hyperspin setup. There's a lot of flash stuff on many themes and video resizing is really heavy too. On my Aeon Nox skin i'm gonna make a "static" version (no flash) for my p4 3ghz HTPC. A 3ghz core2duo is probably the minimun for an official hyperspin setup. Talking about modern hardware an amd apu 6800k or 7850k is really good "budget build" for hyperspin if you plan also windows gaming (720p). If you plan dolphin/pcsx2 an overclocked g3258 is not that far from a 4690k but the dualcore architecture may be a problem with windows gaming. The "best buy" is obviously a 4670k with a z97 motherboard and a noctua dh-14 :P

Hello. =)

I have a question and hope that somebody can help me.

So now I want to buy an Intek NUC or Gigabyte Brix. I play only old stuff on mame and SNES so that isn't a problem. But since we all know, Hyperspin wants much CPU Power for the flash stuff, animations and so on.

Can someone tell me if Hyperspin is supporting Hyperthreading? Can also someone tell me if it's using two or four cores if available? That would help me much with my decisions. :)

So many people here building their own machines and nobody wants to answer me my little question. Sad but ok, I give up.:dong:

I am running an Intel Pentium G3258 which only has 2 cores and everything Hyperspin related (scrolling, wheels, videos) shows up perfect for me. I am not sure if that helps but that's my input

Okay thanks but how is this answering my question if Hyperspin uses HYPERTHREADING?

Even if it only uses one core without Hyperthreading, maybe 3.2GHz is enough. But I buy an Intel NUC system without 3.2GHz. =/

I can't answer your question directly, but you could use a CPU monitoring utility to compare usage while running Hyperspin. That would at least give you an idea on CPU utilization. Window's has a resource monitor, but there are better ones out there.
