How to Skip Date/Time BIOS Prompt in RetroArch's Sega Saturn Mednafen Core

Hi Guys,

I previously shared this in an unrelated Platinum section post. Migrating here for everyone's use:

Per Awakened, it's possible to skip the Date/Time prompt of 99% of games while using the Mednafen Saturn core. The trick is to first load the game in Mednafen native, then copy the auto-generated files from Mednafen/SAV to your directory with the game images.

In an effort to give back to the community, I've created a full set to match the Official HyperSpin Sega Saturn database. Simply download the link below and then merge the folders within with your own game folders.

If you're using a different naming convention, you'll need to rename them.

Cheers!

Thank you newoski.

Anyone know where to put the damn bios files in RA? I've tried the system folder and a Mednafen folder within the system folder but the core still shows them as missing.

Thanks

I thinks it's a dc sub directory in the system folder. Something like that

Mine are named this way:

SS - BIOS (E).bin

SS - BIOS (U).bin

SS - BIOS V1.00.bin

SS - BIOS V1.01.bin

and there's a saturn_bios.bin

It's been some time since I put the bios there, and I'm not sure if all these are required, or just one of them.

The correct file names for the Saturn Mednafen core are sega_101.bin for the Japanese bios and mpr-17933.bin for the US/Euro bios, but where they go so they are detected I can't seem to find out.

Just use mednafen directly - you'll have a way better experience. Plus the mednafen website contains all the details you need about bios files and placement.

It's so much easier and cleaner
Mednafen doesn't have the pretty shades or Xbox autoconfigs

It's neither of those things. You'd have had mednafen working by now.

Controller autoconfig is nice - mednafen has something close to this. Shaders can be done with RL now too.

I've yet to get shaders via RL working. Amy guides?

Haha, I'm only kidding around. Tones, you're the man, even if you don't love retroarch...

Wow, thanks you two for such a lovely back and fourth. Still don't know where to put the damn files though ;)

And is the Rl shader a real shader in the true sense of the word? I've used it on things like Fix It Felix Jr but that's all.

Something else is screwy then as that's where I put them.

I have a love/Hate relationship with RetroArch.

I have a Hate/Pure-Hate relationship with RetroArch.

Which is why I deleted it entirely forever ago and will never use it for anything again.

Retroarch is awesome. Sure it can be a bit frustrating at times but it sure beats setting a gazillion emulators for every system and keeping them updated and working properly.

Run in debug?

I have so many systems running RetroArch flawlessly, including multitap for all consoles. It takes some work and creative thinking, but the results have always been worth it, in my experience. Let me know if you ever want a tutorial via TeamViewer
