    The HyperSpin 2 early access beta is here!

    We’re starting the first public testing phase with Platinum Members to keep the scope manageable while we test the current feature set and begin to add more. In the future, we’ll provide a version for basic members as well.  On behalf of the entire HyperSpin team, we look forward to another exciting adventure with our community.

HI all ok so I noticed these Cinematic videos, I'm having some issues on where they might go, there is not a lot of info out there, and some videos seem to be updated, and dead links to HyperSpin Cinematic: do you need this and if not what is the file structure.  as to where they are placed. thanks all for your help.

Cinamatic themes are stored in the platinum members section.

if you have one of these you put the zip in the themes folder and place the MP4 in the videos folder. bob's your uncle.

if you like what we're doing here then consider becoming a platinum member here at hyperspin and make use of the discount for emumovies. it will give you neat features like being able to sync your system using hyperAI/Hyperbase live. it will save you the headache of having to manually downloading artwork and videos. in the future these tools will even be able to download and setup emulators giving you even more convenience.

a cinematic theme is nothing more than a regular hyperspin theme that plays the display video in full screen.

You first need to place the corresponding theme in the themes folder (theme name must match the video name --> rom name --> name found in the XML)

then place the cinematic video in the video folder.

ok getting somewhere now, i downloaded a theme from retro956 his are in a zip file with theme and vdeo, so i would rename video and rezip the theme and rename it to same sega master system put in to folders, his are not letterbox like RetroHumanoid so would then the XML file be changed to 1080P instead of the 384x 512 aspect ratio. thanks again helping me out..

you could but you don't have to.

Hyperspin 1.4 lets you use a universal theme for all your MAIN MENU systems.

- set up a universal Main menu theme from  the theme found on retro956 file.  rename to default.zip

place at --> C:\HyperSpin\Media\Main Menu\Themes\Default.zip

Hyperspin will use the default.zip theme for all your main menu systems.

all you would need to do is download the Main Menu Cinimatic videos and rename them to match your System Names

after you rename them place at -->   C:\HyperSpin\Media\Main Menu\Video

you do not need to add a "sega master system"zip file or any other system,  becasue Hyperspin 1.4 will use the default one.

this only works for the Main Menu themes.  You only need to add a "Game Name.zip" file to game specific cinematic videos.

That has passed me by or I forgot.

Handy for universal main menu

It might be appropriate to note that the various "Cinematic" themes were created using different methods by that creator, so one <theme>.zip may not be compatible with another creator's theme.

I've looked at a sampling of Bakerman, RetroHumanoid, and Retro956's themes as follows:

Bakerman Theme Settings-

<video rest="none" start="none" type="none" bshape="false" bcolor3="0" bcolor2="0" bcolor="0" bsize3="0" bsize2="0" bsize="0" delay="0" time="0" forceaspect="both" overlayoffsety="0" overlayoffsetx="0" overlaybelow="false" below="false" ry="0" rx="0" r="0" y="384" x="512" h="768" w="1024"/>

This allows 1080p <video>.mp4 to be squeezed down to HyperSpin's 1024x768 format and then viewed fullscreen/widescreen in Hyperspin. Note that the HyperSpin wheel is not visible with these settings.

RetroHumanoid Theme Settings-

<video rest="none" start="none" type="fade" bshape="false" bcolor3="0" bcolor2="0" bcolor="0" bsize3="0" bsize2="0" bsize="0" delay="0.2" time="0.5" forceaspect="both" overlayoffsety="0" overlayoffsetx="0" overlaybelow="false" below="true" ry="0" rx="0" r="0" y="384" x="512" h="776.1" w="1028.9"/>

<artwork4 rest="none" start="top" type="none" delay="0.5" time="1" r="0" y="-81" x="490"/>

Again, 1080p <video>.mp4 squeezed down in settings to 1024x768, viewed fullscreen/widescreen in HyperSpin. Note that the HyperSpin wheel is visible. Also the video delay and then fade setting appears to allow pre-theme transitions to be more visible for the duration. Also, the artwork on the right side third of the screen is less visible due to reduced opacity (maybe 75%). Altering the Bakerman settings to (video layer) "below=true" makes the HyperSpin wheel somewhat visible on top of the video layer, but not as much as these settings with the reduced video layer opacity. Also, the height and width difference was noticeable in the example I viewed. Lastly, reference in this sample to an "Artwork 4", although the asset was not in the <theme>.zip. Don't know if this is just an unnecessary setting or if he has a file in his Image/Artwork4 folder.

Retro956 Theme Settings-

<artwork1 rest="none" start="none" type="none" delay="0" time="0" r="0" y="384" x="512"/>

This is a completely different method than the above and does not require a separate <video>.mp4. This is due to embedding a resized video/audio into a Flash swf file and placing it into the <theme>.zip as "artwork1" with x and y screen coordinates. The sampling I viewed was a 16x9 video squished down to 4x3 1024x768 swf, either in Flash or maybe After Effects due to the inclusion of the audio with the video. I have intended to experiment with this method due to the potential for reduced file size and possibly performance. (There is some overhead in playing 1080p video through a flash medium). But it should be noted that these settings (with the embedded swf) will be most incompatible with the other methods and therefore, should not be used as the basis of a "default/Universal theme", as suggested in a previous post.

FYI, RetroHumanoid's <theme>.zip is not available on this site, however it is linked in his weebly website in the HyperSpin folder, the file to be renamed and used with the .mp4 file available in the Platinum section here.

Here's my Cinematic theme cab if you're interested. It's been customized a bit beyond the normal cinematic themes. And this vid is old so probably a few improvements since I made this vid.

ok guys so I downloaded a theme for hyperspin by  salpf

It had the video but also artwork elements in it what got me thinking, let me explain and give some context to what I think would be a great idea to implement. I have an arcade machine that runs hyperspin with 100 or so wheels a majority of those wheels are arcade related and use arcade sticks and buttons.  but I also have consoles wheels that use an xbox 360 remote, I think you may see where I'm headed.   For friends and my kids, especially my kids who have only seen a xbox console in the house and  don't have an idea that nes, snes or sega genissis or sony playstion use the xbox360 controller instead of the arcade controls. how cool would it be to have a xbox controller show up on the theme letting the person know that that system uses a controller?   IM wondering if in the default XML i have the artwork 1 set  up like below then add the xbox controller .PNG into the theme folder of each console system, would it break say the arcade themes that don't use artwork in them. or should i just change the XML files for the consoles, to include the xbox.png thanks all.

<artwork1 rest="hover" start="left" type="none" delay="0.5" time="1" r="0" y="359" x="151"/>

Unless you know what you are getting into, rather than edit individual themes and settings, this may help you do something similar. Replaces the directions and joystick controls on the bottom of the screen for HyperSpin. Probably want to back up original "special artwork" no matter what option you choose.

Post that caused the creation of the above utility:

you can easily do this by modifying the Default.Zip I suggested you use.

create a xbox controller image.

Import the Default.zip theme into the Theme Editor.

import the Xbox Controller image into the theme --> place it as Artwork, 2, 3 or 4.

Artwork 1 will be placed below the video,  I suggest you add it to artwork 3 or 4.

set your rest,start animations and delay times and positions in the editor,  their is no need to modify the XML manually.

save as new theme.

Make multiple copies of the new theme.  and rename them to the systems you are using an Xbox Controller.

the arcade systems will use the Default.zip theme.  the rest will use individual themes with the Xbox controller image.

One side note.

the theme editor has a glitch,  if you import a finished theme into the editor,  the video will disappear.

the good news is that if you reimport a video,  all the video settings will be restored.

the theme editor only supports, FLV files,  so you need to import the video found at

C:\HyperSpin\Media\Frontend\Video\No Video.FLV

the video will not be saved in the zip file, its only used as a place holder.
