The HyperSpin 2 beta is here!

We’re starting the first public testing phase with Platinum Members to keep the scope manageable while we test the current feature set and begin to add more. In the future, we’ll provide a version for basic members as well.  On behalf of the entire HyperSpin team, we look forward to another exciting adventure with our community.

Are people interested?

So for the past few years I have been getting really involved with hyperspin and feel like a turd because I have been asking more questions than answering (and many times finding the answers as soon as I post) and haven't contributed much due to a heavy work schedule and most my asking being during work hours. I have learned much with Gimp, xml editors, xpadder, Rlauncher, and emulators them selves I think I may have found a way to give back but am wondering if anyone would be interested.

To explain so those who don't want to read on don't have to, I have been editing database lists and making my own art packages with which I am satisfied with for entire system collections (some including full import libraries but most are partial to those that have a translation patch) and maybe the right spot to look isn't in the download tab, but if it is, would anyone be interested in downloading them as I make them? I will add a couple shots with this. I have put a lot of time and effort into these so I figure if there are people out there who will use them, it would be a shame to hoard them for myself. I almost have the SNES wheel art complete and plan on adding in some imports afterwords. Sega Saturn I am a bit ahead in the import section but it is taking quite a bit longer as I am having to do the discs and 3d boxes from scratch. If these are already done and I am wasting my time I don't mind being told :-P I just didn't see them in the downloads section, however, if not and people are interested let me know and I will learn about the submitting process and do what I can to make them public.

Thanks to everyone who has helped me so far on the site and thanks to Austin for his awesome videos which made me dive into this rabbit hole.

Hey @SpykSaturn! Nice work :)

Of course people will be interested; that stuff looks great.

If you redo wheels/logos (improving the already present in the official packs), when uploading, it would be a great feat. to share non resized clean versions besides the framed ones :)

Will be following this topic or any other topic you make sharing your progress.

Thanks guys. Glad to hear it and appreciate the encouragement. I am about halfway through the SNES wheel. It takes less than a minute to make one for each game so I will probably try uploading that first. The Saturn I have taken a small break from due to the amount of work it takes into just getting the middle transparency part of the disc to not look like its slightly imperfect while spinning in the case ( I used Austins disc spin he did for the American games with the Japanese as well). Saturn is my favorite system though so the passion is there. I guess I'll upload the database files as well as there are some great translations for imports out there (especially snes games like Bahamut Lagoon and the Fire Emblem series just to name a few).

Do you just submit them to be reviewed via the section in the forums when you are ready? Is there a thread out for that already someone may be able to direct me to?

Glad to hear you ask about uploading!

Create a topic in the relevent forums for each piece and pit a bit of info and examples in there. Database in database forum, cd's in cart forum etc.

Wait a few day for responces and then upload to the relevent upload section.

Ok thanks so much! I usually get a day a week to work on this stuff. Sometimes a free minute here and there. I'll try to get this stuff in as soon as I can. Thanks everyone for the info.

Please upload the 2D cover art as well.

I'll do my best. Some of them for the Saturn I do not have at the moment but I found a pretty good site for all this stuff. Going forward I will save source material and put them in a file to include.

Want to apologize for no updates on the projects. I have been trying to fix my pinball machine with busy retail days down here in Florida.

A quick update:
- All USA titles and other titles on Austins list for SNES are done for wheel art.
- Beggining Super Famicom games that I would like in my collection and/or are big titles today. If anyone has any suggestions let me know and I will add them.

Again sorry for how slow goings its been. I am anticipating being fully done with the SNES/Super Famicom in a month and I am hoping sooner. I'll post everything before I go with videos for games missing videos to get this out to everyone asap.

Ok so looking around for super famicom 3d carts is like pulling teeth. I'll be making those by hand. I'll upload those as well. I didn't see any on here.

When you say 3D, you mean with rotation? Because if you want 2D but with depth, there is a great topic by Aorin that is still active.
You can find carts like this:

I would definitely be interested in the Sega Saturn artwork you have. Having just begun adding some Japanese titles to my collection I'm liking a lot of the shooters and oddball games that never made it out of Japan but the only artwork I've found for it is the 2D Japanese box art set on here

I am very new to this so any feed back is appreciated. What you all thinking about the perspective on this. I tried to match up the angle as much as possible with the SNES carts. There aren't many shots of Super Famicom games on a 3d angle. This one kinda had a shot of the top so I thought I would try manipulating it a bit. Label should be easy for me to change out for each game. The more I look at it the more I like it. image.png.8d265a587666fd648db4416a109825db.png

Saturn is next. Both my buddy and I have decided. We really want to get down on some of those titles in there and it's my favorite so that's up next. Then Sega cd. Shooters for me as well and shining series games.

Yeah sorry angled view so it is similar to the ones I already have on there. I want it to be seamless so the cart sizes look the same and the angle is the same. I guess you could say I'm a bit OCD. That's why doing this as a hobby really appealed to me.

I don't think I'll end up doing the whole library but what do people think about these carts? They aren't taking long now that I got the template created. I'll be making them with each import label I do. Would people like those uploaded as well? Also thought it would be nice to see this in the wheel. 30126297_1653365268085426_1716324379_o.jpg.bc044acbf1ec0e2b31985eee11d56984.jpg29996110_1653365234752096_1369104542_o.jpg.3e2a85871faeff0f032e9d6f43cf4cb7.jpg

Upon observation the Famicom carts are actually slightly smaller than the snes. I will get this fixed before we start going through all the titles. Need to make those smaller.

Looks nice :) A little bit too warped on the right side for my taste, but still great :)

Yeah gonna try and fix that a little bit. I think that has to do with the length overall being too long. I'll reply back when I got that fixed

Hmm so I perfected it in GIMP. The cart looks much better size wise and looks slightly smaller in hyperspin but hyperspins aspect ratio I think is what is giving it the warped feature. I will have to look into this and see how to correct this.

Hyperspin runs at 4:3 and stretches to fit wide screens.

you can reduce image size of cart to 75% of original to overcome this but I would leave that to users and post you art full size.

there are some scripts in the forum somewhere to make them swf files and retain aspect ratio without changing the image size. Have a little search for 16:9 conversion. There's plenty of info here

Aww man I appreciate that big time! I hope there is a way to do that in bulk so I don't have to do that to each image individually. I'll do that though like you said. After I get the originals done. I'd like to do that for 4k as well then because I have a nice 4k TV down stairs. Very happy with this info. Thank you!!!!

So I found something online called an aspect ratio calculator which apparently you give it the width and it tells you what to resize it to. Would this work or is it a must to go through flash for just wheel art?

Posted

@SpykSaturn, to convert from 4:3 to 16:9, you need to squeeze the horizontal size of an image from 100% to 75%. HS will then stretch it and will look fine on a 16:9 screen.

The user Dark13 made a Flash script in the below topic that will take all your 4:3 pngs and make them 16:9 compatible, switching their extension from png to swf as well.
By doing this, you will not get pixelated images, and they will look crisp. Note: this script can only be used with Artwork (1,2,3,4), cannot be used with wheels.

Thank you for this. I am currently searching google now to figure out how to exactly use this script but thought it couldn't hurt to ask as I search because I am not coming up with much.

Do I need Adobe Flash Pro program used to make this (do I convert it in there) or is this something you drop in the right folder and it does what it needs to do without having to purchase the program? Either way I am all in for this, just didn't see much on there about that and haven't found much online.

Also if you have to get the program, I looked into it and everything says monthly fee. Is there a one time fee to get a "forever license"?

Edit: I take some of that back I just found as I scrolled down someone talking about doing it in Flash. So I need the program. This is fine however, do you know if they have a one time buy option? I just know with what little time I have I may not get a chance to use it even every month and then at that point I have wasted the money but the annual payment is a great deal cheaper.
