The HyperSpin 2 early access beta is here!

We’re starting the first public testing phase with Platinum Members to keep the scope manageable while we test the current feature set and begin to add more. In the future, we’ll provide a version for basic members as well.  On behalf of the entire HyperSpin team, we look forward to another exciting adventure with our community.

OK I have a fix for this problem, but it will put your build back before you updated. Go to the windows search bar and type troubleshoot, click on troubleshoot settings, in there it will let you go back to the most previous build you had. I did that and hyperspin works again.

Well looks like the site has rolled back again by a few days.

Has anyone tested to see if that had something to do with a fix or not.

'Not updating' or rolling back is about as temporary a solution as it gets.

i can atleast give my reply again;

i've tried running hyperspin as admin and any combination of the compatability settings..
I've excluded first the exe, then the folder, then the entire drive in antivirus settings and tried without any AV enabled..
I've replaced the exe, then most files, then a clean install of hyperspin..

nothing works..

most likely, something that hyperspin relies on got removed from windows in the newest update, so the program most likely will have to be rewritten or tweaked

Here is the only clue I've found in the Event Viewer in Windows 10:

I didn't even know this was going on.

Does this update run automatically or is it a notification from windows that ask you to accept the update?

Yesterday I tried hyperspin and everything was working as always. So that means I don't have that windows update yet.

most likely, but you can doublecheck by right clicking the start button and selecting "system",  scroll down to see your current version, and yes, you can expect an update being pushed in the next few days..

you'll most likely get a notification saying an update is ready to install, you might also notice that cpu usage goes up a bit as it readies the update (atleast it did for me)

to attempt to avoid updates, you can always try setting your connetion as metered, that might stop some of the updates (but it won't stop every update)

You’ll also want to disable the windows update service. It rolled me right back to 1803 as soon as I stopped paying attention to it for a few hours.

Ok, so a couple things here:

First, yes the site went down yesterday. One of the admins that will remain unnamed for their protection ( @jhabers ) ran an update yesterday that caused the outage. We restored the last backup, which as you can see, was earlier in the day. We're reviewing our patch strategy to assure this doesn't happen again.

Second, We're still looking into the issue. Both myself and other admins are able to reproduce the issue listed here. I actually see it show up in task manager and then disappear. This leads me to believe that it's one of the dependencies on startup.

Things I have tried and verified not working:

  • Admin mode
  • Compatibility mode
  • Changing DPI settings
  • Running for Cmd and Powershell
  • Allowing windows to try to fix it automatically (but does this ever work?)

I am at a point where I need @BadBoyBill to take a look at it and diagnose it further. I have been working with him over the last day to address this and we're hopeful we can make headway soon.

BUT PLEASE POST HERE IF YOU HAVE IDEAS. I greatly appreciate that you guys alerted us to this problem.

Finally, where do we go from here? As most of you know, there is another project on the horizon from us. I do not want to flood this post with future stuff, so let's stay on topic here. But I want everyone to know the latest software works flawlessly on windows build 1803, but it's just not ready for beta. I'll make another post outside of this thread, but its safe to say this issue has accelerated my timetable a little bit.

Again, I appreciate what you guys are doing here. I'll be posting as soon as I have more information.

BigBox stopped working at same time.  I don't know if they have a thread for it, but they probably will soon.

Weird how HyperHQ, Hyperspin, and BigBox all are affected.  What do they have in common?

Just to follow up here, I've tested Big Box now on four separate machines with the 1803 update without any issues. That's not to say that no one will have issues with Big Box and the 1803 update, but it's clear that it's not a widespread issue, as it has not come up on our forums and we have quite a few folks who have confirmed that it's working properly.

@jdm001 Let me know if you'd like to troubleshoot the issue either here or on the LaunchBox forums and we can dive in to see what might be going on over on your machine.

Godspeed @fr0stbyt3; hope everyone can get their systems back up and running soon. :)

although the devs probably are on it already, this is the list of removed stuff in the 1803 update:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/planning/windows-10-1803-removed-features

i have also googled a bit, but haven't yet found anyone reporting similar issues with other programs..

though i'm not a bronze or platinum member, i'm also willing to help test in any way i can

Can confirm it also broke DuOS. Though that's not particularly surprising. No updates for years and they recently dropped support. Still handy if you need to run android under windows though. Rolling it back fixed hyperspin and DuOS.

HyperTheme wont start either, but it has no connection to HS. Something in code is preventing activating both apps. It just goes into "suspended"

They're both compiled in the same way, so this is to be expected. Are you getting any errors?

I suspected that it might be DEP triggered, but that isnt the case, or at least it wont solve problem by turning it off. Ill try to see whats going on with reflector, havent used it in a while..

Yeah.
