1969kappa Posted August 18, 2019 Posted August 18, 2019 Desperate man here been trying to get MAME running on hyperspin and RL I have followed a few guides with no luck I followed the one on Games room solutions word for word and I keep getting same results(see pic) I have even put new Hdd and booted windows 7 no luck back to windows 10 no luck then back to windows 7 if I had hair I would be pulling it out I get hyperspin running with videos and all that but when I click on a game just a long pause the the black box of death as I call it now pops up would be eternally grateful to the man/woman/child alien anyone who can help thanks in advance for anyone who views this post and thanks even more for responses. oh sorry running mame 0.212 and merged rom set 0.212 HyperSin 1.5.1 and rocketlauncher 1.2.0

Make sure 7z is set to false.

alcoatjez Posted August 23, 2019 Posted August 23, 2019 It doesn't matter where you put the them. Just make sure that in the MAME => Emulators tab in RLUI both directories are added as ROM paths. Together with the advice from cataclysm67 you should get it working

Basically for each and every emulator what I always did was download an emulator. Download the ROMS and CHD files and in many cases you have to download the core bios files for that particular system so that the emulator believes you own the actual device. Then I setup that emulator and have a play on my PC Then I play the emulator using actual controllers. If all goes basically according to plan I then start up RocketUI and then go through the process of a basic setup for that one emulator. Mame is the perfect place to start and @gigapig has a tutorial for it that's like 6 years old check out the rest of the channel as well. Basically it's just rinse and repeat. Use the lists in Rocket launcher to determine what files you need and what emulators you can choose from. It all falls into place... Well until you reach Taito then you are gonna just swear a lot.

1969kappa Posted September 9, 2019 Author Posted September 9, 2019 Sorry to all who has posted reply's I am about to embark on trying AGIAN to get HyperSpin running on my desktop before I transfer my Hdd in to my cabinet build which is running 0.146(which yes i bought)thus the reason I need help lol but I'm determined to master it probably be on MAME 0.670 before I crack it but here goes once again thank's all I will keep all updated lol

So you have a dodgy version of a HyperSpin HDD (yeah I chuckled sucks how they do that doesn't it) and you are trying to setup HyperSpin... My strongest recommendation. Rename your HyperSpin folder that came with the drive to something like "HyperSpin OLD" and then make a copy of HyperSpin from scratch using the tools above. Do not copy anything from ya old folder. Just follow the instructions in the videos. The current version of MAME is 0.213 http://www.pleasuredome.org.uk has all the roms etc you could ever want and https://www.mamedev.org/ is the official location for MAME or you'll find No Nag versions on this website. Setup MAME from scratch. Then try setting up a simple one like say the Atari 2600 and learn from that. Once you get a few of these simple wheels worked out fixing the issues with the OLD version becomes a lot easier. You are definitely not the first person to go through this pain and you certainly won't be the last. If you want to make things really really easy and you have a bit of money to spare getting Platinum here and lifetime over at EmuMovies will set you up for life. Best money I ever spent. HyperSync Cloud is the easiest way to make your setup look and sound amazing. Good Luck

Just on a side note without watching the guides etc I got mine working entirely by using the standard 32 bit version of MAME and going into the global settings for the emulator and turning on legacy mode. I got the exact same error as you did. Now it runs perfectly. I will have to work out which legacy mode check box is the one that did it as I turned on 3 of the buggers at least... LOL And now I'm going through and figuring out how to clean up the mame.xml so that I don't have all the mahjong, fruit machine and adult games... *sighs* gonna be at this a while.

Just use phulshof's excellent MAME databases and rename the one you like to MAME.xml and you're all set

You could use one from here, Phulsof includes many many xmls.
