Secret80'sMan Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Everyone, I finally got a chance to check out MAMEhub and although far from perfect it works pretty well. There is the expected latency and sync issues you would expect with network play but it affects different games to a varying degree so if a game you dig works well with it than you are in luck. I was able to play Wizard of Wor, Joust and also Marvel Superheroes with little to no problems with a guy named Krusty in PA (I'm in VA). You'll want to check out the tutorial before installing too. The install is pretty straight forward, I had very few problems setting it up. Get it here: http://10ghost.blogspot.com/p/mamehub-tutorial.html IMPORTANT: The MAMEhub client acts as a separate version of mame so you'll need to assign controls AGAIN by pressing TAB unless you map to standard MAME defaults. These are NOT ported over from your current MAME install although you do point the directory to your roms. UPDATE: You can port over your old control settings from your own MAME install by copying over your MAME\cfg dir over to you new mame dir in the MAMEhub folder. You can also chat with other gamers while hanging out waiting for games to happen or just host one yourself. I highly recommend installing the Nplayers file so you can determine what games are multiplayer games. Kinda essential or you'll sit around as I did last night wondering, "what game can I play now?" since single and multi-player games that only have one joystick are not currently supported (Pac Man, Dig Dug, Donkey Kong, etc). Get the file here: http://nplayers.arcadebelgium.be/ I'd love to see some of my fellow Hyper Spinners over there on a regular basis so hope to see you there and hopefully challenge you to some classic gaming!
Vater Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Yeah man, good times last night. I wish we didn't see so many lag issues in Track&Field; really makes it difficult to do well. But Wizard of Wor and Michael Jackson's Moonwalker were pretty flawless. I'll have to download Nplayers tomorrow (stuck at work tonight thanks to the nightmarish gridlock from the snowstorm) and see what other games work well.
djvj Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Why didn't you copy over your MAME\cfg dir over to you new mame dir? That's where all your controls are stored. There should be no need to ever redo your controls. Secret80'sMan Posted January 27, 2011 Author Posted January 27, 2011 Because it didn't occur to me, thanks man, good call! I did so and everything works great. Vater, so sorry to hear that man, I thought you were leaving work when I talked to you at like 5? Also, DigitalGhost the guy who created the program has asked that you try and coordinate with friends to meet in there to play and also to leave the MAMEhub client open as much as possible so others can see who is in there and who has come aboard. Would love to challenge others to some Track and Field too, even with a little latency since we can do up to four players on that one. They even had a six player X Men or TMNT game going the other night, I heard it was insane!
Vater Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Yeah, I left at 4:45 and went a mile in 1 1/2 hours, turned around and went a mile back to work...another 1 1/2 hours. I'm still here. I think I'll download MAMEhub on my work PC and login...
Fursphere Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 Wow, neat stuff guys. I'm going to try and get this working this weekend.
Pyramid_Head Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 This is really neat and does work rather well! Does it save Highscores or can I point it to my Highscore file so it'll save?
Secret80'sMan Posted January 28, 2011 Author Posted January 28, 2011 This is really neat and does work rather well! Does it save Highscores or can I point it to my Highscore file so it'll save? I seemed to see some high scores saved while others did not. I run MAMEUI with high score support and no nag screen but MAMEhub works as an independent version of MAME that only points to the roms in your original install not any of the files. I'll have to ask DigitalGhost, the author of the program what his plans or progress have been regarding high score support. We played the first ever six person networked X-Men game, there is a video of it too, I'll try to track it down once it is posted.

That's awesome! Did it lag any? I played few MK II rounds with someone last week it had slight lag but didn't ruin the experience.
Secret80'sMan Posted January 29, 2011 Author Posted January 29, 2011 Hi score support is definitely a necessity, I just don't know enough about how difficult it would be to implement. If it's as simple as compiling a hi score supported version of MAME than perhaps it's in the near future. We did have some lag but it was no worse than I've had just playing a two player game and like your experience it certainly didn't ruin it. I think if variable buffer values are introduced so that users can tweak based on their individual connections things might get even better. I'm not a programmer so don't know how difficult or feasible all this stuff is but all I know is that it has been a blast being part of it. I played a game of Joust with Volumetric this morning who is in Australia and I'm in the Washington DC area so that's pretty compelling stuff. I hope more people join the community and start showing up on a regular basis. Once HS 2.0 launches I might even set up a wheel for MAMEhub to directly launch into network MAMing!
Drakin Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 OMG...this looks awsome!!! can't wait to try it out. 1. Make sure your leds are pointing at the gun. 2. Make sure your aimtrak pcb eye can see your leds and clear the upper lip of the gun barrel. Then you just shoot each arrow when it stops in the left corner right corner and center bottom. 3. If it does not register still try standing closer/further 4. Still no go make sure your lighting around you is not too bright 5. Also some may need to be manually calibrated through the F2 service menu.
Jumpman Junior Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 Sounds awesome! What would be really cool for me was if all my mame games would get the highscore updated from some online database! you think that ever will be possible?
volumetric Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 Once HS 2.0 launches I might even set up a wheel for MAMEhub to directly launch into network MAMing! Ive been putting a bit of thought into this lately (none productive unfortunately), the idea of a hyperspin based arcade machine that can be used on and offline would be pretty darn cool. Especially if it could be integrated into the standard mame wheel somehow. eg select (dont start) the game in the wheel, and automatically a box appears which informs you of any games in progress. For those who want to give mamehub a shot, i would strongly recommend it, ive played games with people in the UK with little noticeable lag, even when im playing someone in the states with a 360 ping, the lag isn't enough to ruin the experience (Although it would be great to see some more Australians and New Zealanders!)
