jesfknkrys Posted yesterday at 12:14 AM Posted yesterday at 12:14 AM Yes, I just updated the latest Windows updates, which it reinstalled KB5055523. I will need to uninstall and block it. Keep in mind, Microsoft is rolling out updates in certain areas. For example, Dime333 has updates available for a later Windows11 build which is currently not available here in southern California.

I only have 3 updates available to remove and none of them are the KB's mentioned in this thread... I've tried removing them but then never seem to actually remove....starting to think my OS is f*cked. Trying to avoid totally wiping my PC and starting over because I'm pretty deep into configurations and such and unfortunately don't have a recent backup...not that it would help anyway if my OS is fucked.
jesfknkrys Posted yesterday at 03:50 AM Posted yesterday at 03:50 AM Try this under windows update if you’ve already tried the Sfc /scannow command. You shouldn’t lose any settings or files. It’s an iso download, so it might take 30 minutes to an hour to download and install the updates.
jh79 Posted yesterday at 04:47 AM Posted yesterday at 04:47 AM Yes, I'd definitely suggest trying the restore (fix problems using windows update) option. Worked for me last night and got Hyperspin running again.

Also according to a microsoft forum it seems that after 10 days of 24h2 being installed that rolling back to 23h4 is no longer an option and the only options are to reset the pc or to wait for a fix from MS...some spanish speaking folks on reddit claim that an update has fixed their systems already with a new security KB that has come out, that i assume is regionally distributed. Useless info, but I'll throw out that I happen to know that during mid 2023 Microsoft did a massive budget cut and operations restructuring.... I imagine because of trickle down economics that QA went out the window in the interest of time. Unless someone happens to find a fool proof fix for this, i guess i'll just have to wait for additional updates from MS for this to sort itself out. It does look like @jhabers has been updating this most recently and perhaps could provide some insight on how to reverse engineer the classic version of hyperspin to ensure continued support, or at least provide some documentation on how to support it so that someone else can take over. If hyperspin 2 is taking precedent, then Hyperspin classic should be de-licensed as "Open Source". 1
Agard Posted yesterday at 10:52 AM Posted yesterday at 10:52 AM @jesfknkrys I have these updates installed & no further updates it says & nothing blocked. it shows KB5055523 is installed but windows 11 deleted some files when trying to run HyperSpin which I only found out when trying to run again on windows 10. I put the files back & put drive back into windows 11 then excluded the drive entirely from windows defender. HyperSpin is now working in windows 11 PRO so might be different on HOME editions. Here's my list of update history https://postimg.cc/XXZ7dRFB
jesfknkrys Posted yesterday at 01:01 PM Posted yesterday at 01:01 PM @shredder Have you tried installing another copy of Hyperspin on a different location on your PC to make sure it's not corrupted or missing files?
jesfknkrys Posted yesterday at 02:38 PM Posted yesterday at 02:38 PM @Agard - I'm glad you were able to get Hyperspin working again. The blocked update will show on your installed updates history even if not installed.
Agard Posted yesterday at 05:25 PM Posted yesterday at 05:25 PM Nothing is blocked, all updates are installed, I just moved everything to a different drive, not the operating system drive, replaced files windows 11 removed, then excluded that drive from windows defender & everything now works on windows 11 pro.
Dime333 Posted yesterday at 07:18 PM Posted yesterday at 07:18 PM Now this was unexpected. Today Windows told me that I needed to restart my computer to install updates. I was thinking that Windows finally decided to install KB5055627 that has been sitting around for about a week. But it turns out that it wasn't. Turns out the update was KB5050411. This update broke Hyperspin again but I was able to uninstall and block this one. So Everything is fine again and no more updates are available.
jesfknkrys Posted yesterday at 08:23 PM Posted yesterday at 08:23 PM @Dime333 - Thank you for the info. So far, four confirmed Windows 11 updates have caused Hyperspin to stop working. KB5053598 KB5053656 KB5055523 KB5055627

I have, still nothing. I have 2 hyperspins on my machine, both are not working. I'll note that I have Windows 11 Pro on my machine. I have found that when HS launches, some files are distributed to 'C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\WER\Temp' then immediately removed.... this 'feels' as if the program is just flat out being blocked from launching rather than an app crash, but i could be way off in guessing that. I do see 'KB5055627' installed on my machine I do not see these updates installed... KB5053598 KB5053656 KB5055523
jesfknkrys Posted yesterday at 09:21 PM Posted yesterday at 09:21 PM Unfortunately, it just takes one of those updates to be installed on you computer to keep Hyperspin from running. I recommend you do a fresh Windows 11 install, since the updates are past the uninstall deadline. Make sure you make a backup of your files on a separate drive.

In my case that's quite an undertaking. It would be less effort to wait it out for a fix from windows or have the program updated if possible. I uninstalled 'KB5055627', still broken. I'll wait for the next round of windows updates and see if it gets sorted, if not...then it looks like I've got quite a bit of work to do.
Creezz67 Posted 14 hours ago Author Posted 14 hours ago I suggest everyone uses Windows 11 version 23H2 instead. Then you can just update without any issues. If anyone need a link to the iso let me know and I will send link.
brudibru Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago I am using 23H2 and so far so good, but I have read somewhere that Microsoft might enforce the migration to 23H4 even if you have blocked the updates. I don't know if it's true or even possible.

I don't know if it's true or even possible. I have been using it (23H2) for 6 months+ and no sign of forced upgrade. Also, I am sure you will have the option of installing it or not if and when it finally (if ever) appears.
brudibru Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago I read an article about it yesterday and it has not been implemented yet but will be, supposedly, in the weeks to come. You can maybe search for such an article to confirm, or not, this information. It says that Microsoft will leave us no possibility to block the update (apart from going offline), which seems strange indeed.
jesfknkrys Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago I read the the same thing somewhere as well. Something about the tools would not be able to block future updates.
jh79 Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Now that I got HS running again I need some advise on getting artwork media for software systems like Atari 2600, the Nintendos ect. I accidentally deleted the artwork dealing with this Windows update issure. I tried my old Hyper-Sync but it no longer works with HS, I believe the server is long gone. Does this mean I have to painstakingly refill each artwork for by hand for each system? How do you guys fill your artwork folders for new systems you add nowadays?
