rik81 Posted March 26 Posted March 26 Im assuming the project is taking a break (Maybe dead)... or theres a huge rewrite of the cache coming. Which seems to be the source of all the issues.
rik81 Posted March 26 Author Posted March 26 I dont mind what theyve done so far.... They just need to scrap the cache file which puts every single file on the drive into a database. (Im sure the scanning overhead is immense!) And make override the default so their media can be used or your own. Either that or get the hyperspin plugin working properly... So that it actually imports all the media correctly. (Right now... I can see the changes in HyperHQ.. but nothing gets transferred over to Hyperspin) Im ok with their login system... I mean im sure they want to promote their memberships etc... All the other features seem to be great. The code is sound.

rik81 Posted March 26 Author Posted March 26 What about the elephant in the room? The media doesnt sync over to hyperspin at all. 1
beatdowniidx Posted March 31 Posted March 31 I think communication could be better—like a roadmap or weekly updates on what's being worked on—but aside from that, I'm happy to let things cook in the oven. 1
Asparky Posted April 4 Posted April 4 I know life gets in the way, but its practically a Month has gone by and no communication. Come on guys, is it going back to the Old Days, where no one would say anything, leading to the point, where people had thought the Channel had Died.........

Come on guys, is it going back to the Old Days, where no one would say anything, leading to the point, where people had thought the Channel had Died......... Not sure where everyone is from but there is ALOT of political and economic turmoil in the US right now that could be driving it. That said. I've still been casually lurking on the forums with nothing much to say and seeing how this plays out for improvements. I still stand by my original ranty opinion that this new update has gone in a bizzare direction. There are some good things about the new update in terms of flash and flare, but from a functionality perspective...in my own opinion, it's unusable...and I am in WAAAY deep in the original HS setup to just dump it and start over...even if the setup wizard is allegedly easier. If the HS asset manager thingy aims to replace Rlauncher, it has a ways to go. I am not a fan of the Theme uploader system...I understand what it is trying to do in terms of reducing administrative overhead, but it's a bunch of extraness that i could really do without. I really just wanted smoother animation in HS and higher quality themes and to be able to somehow integrate it as a new/different frontend to my existing setup; which means connecting with Rlauncher. That's all. I feel terrible saying these things because i know it's an absurd amount of work to just poo poo...but then again, so was all the previously created themes by many artists over the years that to my understanding is now just obsolete, but It's really more overly complicated than i actually wanted and my current setup works fine for now. 2 1
Dazz Posted April 11 Posted April 11 There is a lot of work going on in the background, specifically with the Themebuilder. Because you don't see it or hear anything doesn't mean work isn't being done. Right now development focus is more on specific items at this point.
Asparky Posted April 11 Posted April 11 I know the Devs are working hard, but it doesnt cost anything, for someone just to post an update or something.
floatingyeti Posted April 11 Posted April 11 I think people are asking for a routine progress report. A weekly text post with a few development bullet points. Minimal communication and engagement can help a lot. 1

Asparky Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Yes, but the point is, they are not updated on a regular bases. Its every couple of weeks and if someone, is just popping in, just to have a look on the site, will think nothing is happening and possibly the site is dead. Someyhing at least once a week, would be good, not when someone feels like it.
millansoft Posted May 2 Posted May 2 Maybe, after all, they realized that nobody cares about a LaunchBox clone... 3

Hyperspin users have been in the minority for a very long time. The problem for us Hyperspin enthusiasts is that more people care about Launchbox, Retrobat, or [any other] popular front-end. We are so far in the minority that Hyperspin 2.0 is not made for us. Appealing to Launchbox users would be a far more viable and sustainable strategy. This is "business" not a passion project to cater to loyal HyperSpin users. 4
floatingyeti Posted May 4 Posted May 4 I think there should be a "lite mode" for HyperHQ. A simple text only mode for users that appreciate the HyperSpin menu and themes but prefer not to use Launchbox.

This thing would be full speed ahead if they didnt try and lock it down.

It was used to display themes/media according to user defined databases and pass game launching on to Rocketlauncher. Yes, it could do a bit more than that but for most users that was the extent of it. I understand they want to eliminate Rocketlauncher, that's not an issue. It's reasonable to expect (even during beta testing) that the most basic function of any software bearing the name "HyperSpin" would correctly display themes/media. Specifically in the HyperSpin menu first and foremost. Any expanded functionality is a bonus but should not be focused on until the primary feature of HyperSpin works. It's a spinning wheel that displays themes, videos, and logos. Can we get that working first? 1

You can still have your themes etc... but now theyre stored on your account.. on their server... if you want others to get them... make them public. RL is still supported. They supported it out of the gate. Theyre not eliminating it. It's a spinning wheel that displays themes, videos, and logos. <---- This is what I just said... its the caching system messing everything up. Storing the cache on the C drive etc... Ive added every single wheel they offer... I know what works and what doesnt... and its ONLY specific wheels that have problems.... THere are a lot of them....ITS ALL MEDIA RELATED... Everything else works pretty well.... hopefully in the next update they adderss things. Theres also the grey screen that im getting now... same as the other screen where you would get the white dot in the center cause things ran out of ram.... So they obviously recycled the same code... Theres other problems too.... I dont think anything actually gets refreshed when clearing cache.... Ive checked all the files on C while doing it..... and nothing gets deleted.. no file size changes.. nothing. Its a bit weird.
floatingyeti Posted May 6 Posted May 6 @rik81 I was agreeing with you not making a counterpoint. I've also used Rocketlauncher with HS 2.0 but it felt more like a workaround than something supported.

Asparky Posted May 24 Posted May 24 So we have now got an update today. Does that mean we only going to get news of what is going on once a Month now? I am only asking, so I dont raise my expectations, during the Long wait for the next update, though it was promised we would be informed every couple of weeks.

It still takes forever to load up, and even when that happens it just sits there unable to load Hyperspin. Also, what's is the point on doing HyperTheme first ? Get it (Hyperspin) working at least , then we might be able to use it. Priority No1 ..... Get it loading faster .... Currently, I can literally watch Ben Hur while it's loading and even when that's finished it's still chugging away 2
