zerojay Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Very n00bish question but I'm either blind or it hasn't been asked before:How do I disable the intormation pop-up window from appearing? From HLHQ I disabled the mouse and everything else but the pop-up keeps showing briefly before a game loads. Are you talking about MAME in Retroarch here or Retroarch in general? I can't say I've ever seen a popup from Retroarch before other than the stuff at the start of running MAME.
baddeolv Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 He could be talking about the yellow text that pops up, which needs to be toggled off in the retroarch settings directly Instagram : baddeolv Kik : baddeolv Facebook : Brian Addeo www.facebook.com/thecorepunk
Fromlostdays Posted January 10, 2015 Author Posted January 10, 2015 On the newer nightly I'm getting a little pop up window as well, it's actually a d3d error, but you can't see it unless you launch RA in windowed. I'm not sure if that's the same thing you're getting, but so far I haven't been able to get it to stop. Updated everything. Also when I try to launch the mame and mess cores in GL it freezes and tells me I've used too much of my video ram. I'm just waiting for 1.1 to see if this gets fixed. Walter:beerglass:
matchaman Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 I'm talking about this window, it appears always even for showing which ROM is being loaded (even without errors): HyperSpin is the OCD curse we all love to love
KrillCaz Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Has anyone succesfully used a "cheat file", yet? I can not get the cheat files to show. I've directed the path to the correct directory, and I copy and pasted the bnes .xml linked in the OP, but when I select "core cheat options" none of the .xml files are there. Any solutions?

I've directed the path to the correct directory, and I copy and pasted the bnes .xml linked in the OP, but when I select "core cheat options" none of the .xml files are there. Any solutions? Having set up the path in the Retroarch config, I can scroll through a list of cheats while in game using the "t", "y", and "u" buttons on the keyboard. But Retroarch's BSNES core runs so slow on my work comp that that's as far as I got in terms of testing. I just tried to use the infinite HP cheat on Mario RPG at 14FPS I might add, and it didn't work, so it seems like I may have jumped the gun here unless someone on a better computer can chime in. I HAVE successfully cheated in Retroarch using Cheat Engine, and intended to write a tutorial, but trying to do anything more difficult than giving myself more lives in Contra (NES) required solving weird Hex equations on a calculator... or something. Needless to say, I failed miserably. Walter:beerglass:
Awakened Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 I'm talking about this window, it appears always even for showing which ROM is being loaded (even without errors): I use winstate=HIDDEN in HyperHQ to hide it. Setting Hide Emulator to true in HLHQ should do the same thing.
Fromlostdays Posted January 16, 2015 Author Posted January 16, 2015 Updated with quick troubleshooting tricks for common problems, and with a workflow outline. If anyone has reliable information on how to set up mess and/or ipac with RA, please let me know. Walter:beerglass:
Awakened Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 The dropbox link in the op should be replaced with http://buildbot.libretro.com/ for nightlies. Since they got the buildbot working lordashram doesn't update the Windows builds on the dropbox anymore.
Fromlostdays Posted January 17, 2015 Author Posted January 17, 2015 Updated with link to the nightly builds, and answer to the most commonly asked question about Ipac. Simple solution there it turns out. Also, the lordashram builds may not be updated anymore, but you can still get the doom and quake files (which I don't think are packaged with the nightlies, so I left the link there and updated the info). craiganderson Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 I have not started with Retroarch yet. But I do plan to use it soon. Question regarding xbox 360 controllers and Retroarch? Is it much easier than dealing with xpadder etc? Or not? thanks for your guide... craig http://craigandersonthemes.weebly.com/
EvilDindon Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Why should i use retroarch instead of MESS ? "Dindon" means "Turkey" in french.
marxkemp Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Yo Craig. Do it. Ive been messing with for a week and its awesome. I only use xpadder. So i can hold select and another button to load a save state and such

gigapig Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 but is the xbox controller setup with retroarch easy ? still need to use xpadder? or plug and pay kinda/?thanks It's natively supported so you don't really need xpadder just switch the controller on. The guide button works to access the RetroArch menu and you can even switch the controller on while RA is running.
marxkemp Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Plug and play mostly The latest nightly's do a wonderfull job supporting both my controllers. It even shows per core (read emulator) mappings. I never used shaders or bezels but their also cool to play with. And the major selling point to me is I can ditch a lot of standalone emulators as im building my 2nd htpc
rust2dust Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 I may use it on my next build....I already have 95% of my setup done....I really do not want to go through all of that again to have all of my emulators in one box.
marxkemp Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Most of the first box you can copy, but whats the fun in that i told myself.
bb_neo Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 I tested RA a while 1 year ago ago and PSX Mednafen core did not have the save/load state feature. Sadly, today I quickly tested the latest nightly build and it's still impossible to save game states on PSX. Rewind and speed toggle are also not working yet. I really love to be able to same at any time and quick fast forward cut scenes, so for now I stay epsxe.

They're experimental because there is a chance using them can corrupt your memory card file, so you might want to hold off on using it for now. I haven't tried rewind (I forget if that works with this core once you enable save states), but fast forward has always worked for me.
gigapig Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Save states are generated usually by the emulator and allow you to save anytime, correct? But you can surely save your progress in the normal fashion while playing a Playstation game, is that also true? If so that's good enough for me.

If so that's good enough for me. Yep, normal memory card saves work perfectly. There are even core options to use a single memory card file for all games or use per game memory card files. Per game makes things much easier for me since PSX memory cards are so small. Especially with the .m3u method of multi disc game loading so all discs use a single file. By the PSX era most games let you save often enough that I don't feel too much need for savestates myself. Hopefully savestate support will stabilize in Mednafen PSX soon for those that use them though.
sucramjd Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 where am i supposed to set the key bindings? i cannot find this anywhere in the rgui or the config file, i'm stuck on this but found it easy to launch games with through hyperlaunch, so close i can smell it [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Fromlostdays Posted January 19, 2015 Author Posted January 19, 2015 Settings/Input Options/Bind All... or you can scroll down to bind them individually. Walter:beerglass:
