The HyperSpin 2 beta is here!

We’re starting the first public testing phase with Platinum Members to keep the scope manageable while we test the current feature set and begin to add more. In the future, we’ll provide a version for basic members as well.  On behalf of the entire HyperSpin team, we look forward to another exciting adventure with our community.

So we all invest lots of time and money in this hobby right?

I normally do not make threads like this but I really have to vent this out because it's to the point where it's funny.

So in this hobby, we all can admit that when we build a cab, we spend money. Then we spend the time learning Hyperlaunch, HS, ledblinky, all so we can have the best experience for ourselves and family and friends correct? Or am I the only one?

Well I posted a topic over at MAMEworld because I modified the source code according to a thread I found over at the BYOAC forums to stop the "state loaded" messages from happening. This is due to the Deco cassette games that have a inevitable, regardless of nvram start up time for 120 seconds until the games start. Now I do play deco cassette games, especially Skater.

However I was having an issue when compiling due to me not deleting a variable in the code. So I asked about which variable to delete so it will compile with my change... and that's when this simple question got blown out of proportion to the brink of a flame war between me and one of the devs.

Instead of telling me which variable to delete, instead they just started picking on me because I wanted to do this, but what really started the argument was when I said that "I have invested timeless hours and money into my cab and I want it running as seamless as possible".

Apparently just by me saying this I had one of the devs start mud slinging at me, saying I have a "A muted sense of entitlement to MAME" and comments like "Seamless my ass. If you skip the loading of these games you just show you don't want an arcade experience."

I could not believe that a simple question turned into this. But I mean we all feel this way about our setups and we want them running the way we see fit right? Or am I in the wrong?

I'll tell you I have used MAME since 97 and I always had respect for the devs but when they jumped all over me for saying that, I lost quite a bit. While I appreciate what they have done over the years, it is not an excuse to treat someone like shit.

From my dealings with them MAME devs would rather have a game not working as long as it was as close to the original as possible. I dont even think they are interested in playing the roms to be honest. Only my opinion and with my dealings with select few.

So to ask a question like you did to one of the above.... you may aswel have skull muckered his mother

I said it many times but I will be repeating myself... MAME team gets further from MAME users on daily basis. "Playing games is a nice side effect" was a nice motto but now it seems to have turned into faith. Technically MAME is "free software" but if want to make some modification that devs don't like you are considered a "criminal". I really would like to know what nicola salmoria thinks about it... MAME, after all, was born to play games not available on pc; in its very first incarnations it was a mere collection of already-made emulators...

Its ur shit... Do whatever u want with it.

I know. That's why I don't know why everyone's panties were getting in a bunch even to the point where a dev starting flaming at me.

From what I have seen when dealing with that community, is if they get wind that you are using MAME on a cab, the shit starts to fly. I had a question I brought up there a year ago Iirc about a problem with one of the drivers coin impulses and the thread got shut down immediately.

They wanted me to use the fast forward button rather than giving me the answer about the source modification. Like little kids.

But when I said having a fast forward button on a control panel was kind of silly and took away the arcade experience, it angered them further, then another user even agreed that having a ff button is stupid on a cp, and they jumped all over him.

I'll be honest, I feel like walking on eggshells over there, and I will never post there ever again after today. In fact the only game left that I would like to see fixed is Cruisin Exotica. Once that happens I'm done with updating MAME for good so I won't even have to deal with it anymore.

Trnzaddict, I fully understand your feelings and I completely agrees that if we spend so much time and money on this hobby it is because we are expecting a true and fun experience in the end.

I am also using emus since 1997 and MAME was one of the first I tried back then when it was emulating only a handful of games.

It seems that the motivations behind this amazing work has evolved from being able to play at home the arcade games we were dreaming of as a kid to a kind of divine quest to preserve and emulate perfectly every games ever made.

This quest is honorable but too often it seems like an heresy that some people would actually want to play those games!

I don't know what Nicola Salmoria would say about all this but I for one am sometimes really surprised to read the heated debates between emu coders or between rom collectors integrist.

In the end it's supposed to be fun, right?

I know. They don't think that way and the project is headed in a direction that basically outlines it's their way of thinking or the high way.

I just do not like how they twisted what I said there Into something it's totally not. I wish Nicolas was still in charge.

"In the end its supposed to be fun, right?" I am NOT going to say I wouldn't be equally pissed at that awful behavior. However, I would take a duck and run on this one, only because I can't make a fucking emu, or it would take me 20 years. So I want them to keep doing what they are doing for whatever reason they are doing it. Having said that, yeah it was an asshole move.

sad to say, but I find a lot of shitty attitudes associated with this hobby in general. I rarely post in any forums just because I'd rather not be drawn into some kind of flame fest behind a simple question. I have stumbled my way thorgh a lot of compiling and configuring over and over just to avoid that crap. lol!
