Hey guys, for anyone that has this game, how do you map your controls? This game is a nightmare with mapping, it allows you to map the in game controls but the menu keys are hard coded. Any work arounds out there? The xinput dll hack doesn't seem to work.

I don't think this ever got figured out :(

That sucks, its such a good game. I'm surprised no one has taken a stab at it with a hex editor to change the hard coded keys like in Arcana Heart for Taito Type X. I would try it except I have no idea where to start. Thoughts?

I'm using the Kade input encoder and it works fine.

Just looked this up. I use an I-pac encoder, so I'd have to replace it with this or can this work together with it? Can you explain a little more about how it works? Thanks

I set my Kade encoder to be seen as a generic usb joystick. For the I-pac encoder, it is a keyboard encoder and it gets a little more complicated as you found out. I'm sorry, I can't help you out further with this since I just ended up using the Kade encoder instead of the I-pac encoder.

So do you use the Kade encoder as a generic usb joystick for all emulators or do you switch it to that mode just for this game? Is there a way to automatically switch modes? I'm trying to understand if getting this encoder makes sense for me. All of my emulators are mapped to keyboard keys and I want to keep everything this way.

^^

this where xpadder comes in, I have a generic USB joystick encoder, but I use Xpadder to use all the default keyboard keys for all my emulators.

expect N64, Dreamcast, Playstation systems, their is to many buttons (4 players) to map to keyboard keys.

I see the light! Thanks! Do you have a link to your joystick encoder? I already have Xpadder profiles for everything so it should be pretty easy to implement. Does it have a shift function?

I'm using this one

http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=76_81&products_id=235

only draw back (problem with all joystick encoders); it only shows up as a single joystick with X number of buttons

it's a problem for MAME, by default:

Player 1 = joystick and all joy buttons are correctly mapped

Player 2 = Joystick does not work, because your PC only identifies a single joystick.

You could by two joystick encoders to solve the problem.

buy two cheap encoders to keep costs down.

I solved this problem by making a MAME Xpadder profile with 4 buttons as the P2 joystick inputs.

only P1 has joystick P2 is buttons.

by shift option do you mean similar to the I-pac?

No joystick encoder has any shift options, The good news is; Xpadder has multiple shift options. Allot more than the I-pac

I personally use the shift option for my exit set up for my HTPC controlled by 360 controllers.

all my emulators exit with this sequence:

Start + Back = Escape

Hold start down --> shift --> Page 2 Back (mapped to ESC key)

if you don't know how to do this, I made a post with allot of pictures here

Thank you. Yeah I don't know what I was thinking asking about the shift functionality, I know how to do that with Xpadder haha. I honestly don't think I will go this route just to make one game work, I'll have to navigate the menus with a keyboard and the change to the control panel to play.

But just in case I change my mind, I'm not sure I totally understand your setup, the picture didn't quite make sense to me along with your explanation. So your Player 1 profile for MAME has all 6 buttons and joystick inputs for both players and then you also have a Player 2 profile with only the four buttons as the Player 2 joystick inputs? My head is spinning hehe.

Just to clarify you did it this way since you only have one joystick encoder? With two this work around wouldn't be necessary?

with two encoders their is no need for the workaround, and again its only a problem with MAME.

their is no P2 xpadder profile for any of the emulators.

the PC only detects a single joystick, you can't load a P2 xpadder profile, since their is no P2 joystick.

I have a P1 profile with:

1 joystick and 23 buttons. (their is actually 32 but I'm only using 23)

from the 23 available buttons, you can create the player 2 "joystick" inputs

the GPWiz is suppose to have a joystick 2 input, but it registers as triggers U2 and L2.

if you really wan't to play this game why don't you just set an Alt controller and play it with a USB joystick? you could save yourself allot of hardware configurations.

Makes sense thanks. Yeah it's either use my Xbox controller or navigate the menu with a keyboard until I'm in the game at which point I can switch to my CP since the in game controls are mappable and work perfectly. I can't believe they made this game like this.

Interesting, and this works for 2 players ?

I tried a keymap before with this game and that didn't work so can't understand why a different winipac profile would. Still, very easy workaround for everyone if it works, well done :)

Works perfectly. BTW for people with a 6 button CP, it will work perfectly if mapped as shown. You can still do throw/interact by combining the other attacks.

Is this a similar issue to the new MKX? I couldn't play it the first 2 days because custom controls worked while in-game, but it forced me to use different keyboard keys in the menus.

I solved it (with help) by installing Vjoy (and not using anything else with it), customizing the buttons within Vjoy and now it reads my ipac as a control pad in menus and game. It now works perfectly for player 1 and 2 and menus.

Same game developer so it might be worth a shot.
