bmosley Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 I wouldn't say Mednafen is the best NES emulator though, there's still quite some work to do there, same for PSX, but if they keep their standards I wouldn't be surprised it would become the best emulator for these systems later down the road. I'm using Mednafen for NES now, just during my set up phase as I work on the cabinet itself. A lot of people like Nestopia but the last update was in 2008.. is it still preferred now that we're into 2013?
brolly Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Yeah Nestopia is pretty good (still my default NES emu), there is an unofficial update more recent btw so you should use that one. But seems puNES is actually more accurate than Nestopia, I didn't spend much time with it tbh you might want to give it a try.

I might have to ditch Nestopia (even though I really like it) because of my cocktail cab vertical orientation. Fullscreen kills the app with a direct3d error. bummed. I'll try puNES but are there others that are preferable with good ahk support?
bmosley Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 FCEUX is also pretty good. That's my next try. If it doesn't work in vertical res though, I'm screwed.
djvj Posted April 19, 2013 Author Posted April 19, 2013 I'm liking punes so far. mameshane Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 I'm liking punes so far. I like punes also. I just wish it had the ability to use 2 filters at once. eg scanline and blur. the second it can do that I will stop using nestopia. My Cab.. 1-UP ARCADE new hyperspin irc details.. come hang out!

haze420 Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 I think you should add bsnes-sx2. Its a branch of bsnes specifically for Nintendo Satellaview and they even hacked the bios to be in english. http://bsxproj.superfamicom.org/index.htm
djvj Posted July 4, 2013 Author Posted July 4, 2013 For the most part, yes. BiLbOBaggins Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 Great, thanks! Would it be safe to see puNES is the preferred emulator for "Nintendo Entertainment System" ?
djvj Posted July 6, 2013 Author Posted July 6, 2013 I don't know enough about it to say. DrMaxwell Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Sorry, but this kind of assumptions make no sense, for one thing the teams working on each emulation driver are different it's not like it's the same guy juggling with 10 different drives at the same time and they don't focus on all systems at the same time, like now for example they are mostly working on the PSX driver. PCE emulation on Mednafen is very mature, besides being cycle accurate and has nothing to envy from Magic Engine, it's also free and is constantly updated (not really the PCE driver since it doesn't need it), when was the last time you saw a Magic Engine update?Oh and PC-FX emulation on Mednafen beats the hell out of the paid Magic Engine FX just saying. I wouldn't say Mednafen is the best NES emulator though, there's still quite some work to do there, same for PSX, but if they keep their standards I wouldn't be surprised it would become the best emulator for these systems later down the road. I have to agree here, the emulation for PC-FX is miles ahead of the MagicEngine emulation. TheMadMan007 Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 Is there any way to get a updated list going? And also one that isn't as complicated to figure out? I am trying to just go through and update all my emulators that I've had for a while and I don't need 4 SNES emulators. I just want one for each system, one that works the "best", Best all around compatibility and features. Just as a quick mockup this is what I have AAE = AAE Atari 2600 = Stella Atari 5200 = Kat5200 Atari 7800 = ProSystem Atari Jaguar = Virtual Jaguar Atari Lynx = Mednafen Colecovision = MESS Nintendo 64 = Project 64 Nintendo DS = DeSmuME Nintendo Gamecube = Dolphin Nintendo Virtual Boy = Mednafen Nintendo Wii = Dolphin Nintendo Pokemon Mini = PokeMini SDL SNES = SNES9X Can we compile a new list of emulators in this format? I don't know why everyone does it a different way, it's extremely confusing to me.
zero dreams Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 You can consider the modules in HyperLaunch right now to be for the most up to date emulator versions or best working. So all you've gotta do is get the emulator for that module which you can do through HLHQ. Just double click on the module name in HLHQ and go to the emulator website. It's a beautiful thing. djvj Posted July 13, 2013 Author Posted July 13, 2013 Well many of the modules might be running a little behind as I can't keep up with the constant releases. TheMadMan007 Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 Oh wow, that's really cool, man I still find stuff every day about these new updates that I love. Everyone's hard work really shows on these things! Thank you everyone for making Hyperspin amazing
Polemicist Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 Well many of the modules might be running a little behind as I can't keep up with the constant releases. Well I am 100% sure that we are all happy to help with that. I am in the process of step by step setup of each emulator for every system I have (which is pretty complete) If a list like this was going to be done it would be helpful to have the web page for each emulator included and if any setup instruction exist perhaps link to that as well (even paste bins of them) I'd start on a list right now but I'm working tomorrow morning (Sundays suck) but if this is something that would help the community I'd be happy to assist.
djvj Posted July 13, 2013 Author Posted July 13, 2013 I've already started going that route in the module section so feel free to add on to those threads. brolly Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 I think this kind of info would make much more sense in the Wiki now that we have one, it will simply be lost here.

potts43 Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Has this list been put on wiki yet because I can't find it...
Polemicist Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Not really needed with Hyperlaunch. You just put your system in and click add emulator and it tells you what you can use. Really like that feature. Currently I am downloading ever emulator I can find and setting it up in the default folders as per the Global Emulators ini which is a lot of work and currently only up to the letter N. Oops yeah that reminds me gotta go back and update MAME and mess again. *sighs* The never ending story.
